Cant argue with GOLDFINGER

It would also transfer into Craig's BOND for a current film

I had a hard time choosing between FRWL and DAF for two very different reasons. I love FRWL because I find it to be a very taut, smart, well-written, and well-acted film. It drags a tiny bit for me, but only when I compare it to other Bond films. I love DAF for the opposite reasons: It's just awesome, campy, 70s, strap-yourself-in-and-go-with-it fun. And Tiffany Case/Jill St. John is one of my favorite Bond girls ever. She's sassy. But in the end, I chose FRWL.

I may be the only person on this board who thinks this, but I'd rather forget that Never Say Never Again even exists.

1. From Russia With Love
2. Diamonds Are Forever
3. Thunderball
4. Goldfinger
5. Dr. No
6. You Only Live Twice

Oh, hey, I'm a Sub-Lieutenant now! Sweet . . .

From Russia with Love was my favorite of the Connery Bond films. I read the book recently and was amazed at how faithful the film was to Fleming's original.

My rankings:

1. From Russia With Love
2. Goldfinger
3. Doctor No
4. Thunderball
5. You Only live Twice
6. Diamonds are Forever

I haven't seen Never Say Never Again, but might watch it someday.

It really showed how he wasn't like others of the era. He didn't get into childish fads; he had no time for pop music. Perfect. Just perfect.

I don't think any 30 somethings did in those days; many didn't even in the 1980s when I was a kid. Rock music was still seen as only for kids in the 60s. Plus, 30 somethings were considered too old for childish fads. Also, extended adolescence did not really start until the 1990s.

More importantly, the Beatles were still a teeny bopper group in 1964. Their music did not mature until Revolver and Sgt. Peppers; although there was maturity in Rubber Soul (1965).

I voted for FRWL way back when, but I re-watched Goldfinger and I was blown away by everything. Goldfinger is now tops on my list, but FRWL is a close second.

FRWL (tied with OHMSS) is the best Bond film of all time, awesome thriller thats almost perfect in every way. GF is the funnest of his entries, while not at the expense of the character of the world he inhibits (Guy Hamilton forgot this later on). DR. NO is also an excellent thriller, but there's something missing in it I can't quite put my finger on it to tell. NSNA has great villains and I enjoy the emphasis on intrigue here, but also bad with its totally inappropriate score and myriad problems that EON's lawyers felt fit to prevent from not happening. TB is the best of the action-packed, story-driven Bonds, but its largely lacking in villains and a conclusion. YOLT is visually as good as any other Bond in the 60's, and its certainly as epic as TB and OHMSS, but the story is largely stupid, and super campy, at best - not my idea of a Fleming Bond, per se. Not to mention the complete miscast Blofeld and the ridiculous premise of space swapers.

And DAF... Well, lets just say its one of the top 3 worst Bond films of all time, and we'll leave it at that.

Thunderball for me. I've originally voted for Goldfinger, but Thunderball is grittier and darker and has all the elements that a spy thriller should have.

From Russia With Love, Sean Connery felt a little more relaxed in the role, the action scenes were exciting, the script was finely tuned and perfect, the film was well casted all around, the soundtrack set the standard for all to come plus it had kept pretty faithful in spirit to the original novel while creating an identity for itself.
