The following casting notice has been issued by Debbie McWilliams' office.

We are looking to follow in the tradition of JAWS and ODDJOB in finding an iconic baddy.

Hinx (Male, 30 – 45)

Ideally over 6′ 2″. Hinx is the main henchman/assassin. We are looking for an imposing extremely physically fit actor. He has several fights with Bond and will have to have stunt training. He has to drive. We are looking for someone very unusual, possibly from a sports background.

Height: 180cm – 195cm”

People seems to be under the impression that "Hinx" is just a placeholder name for casting purposes.

I would hope that the character's name is just a placeholder.  As it currently stands, it's such a laughably bad name that I'm not sure the character could be taken seriously, especially since there will be callbacks to Halle Berry's Jinx character from Die Another Day.

Yes, fingers crossed that it's just a placeholder. Hinx is a terrible name and as you say, sounds way too like Jinx.

Well that's exciting. We need someone intimidating for Bond to square up against, and having that sort of character arrive in a scene just as things are escalating, making matters worse, would be a lot of fun. Sounds like they're going for an all out Bond epic.

Sounds like the kind of henchman I've been advocating for a while, although I do wish that they were going with a female version rather than a male.  This is the kind of role that I'd love to see EON cast Gina Carano in.

Welcome news!  And yes, I think the name is a place holder.

Making the character decidedly "iconic" will be a challenge, though.  The last few attempts at henchmen (Elvis, Zao, Renard, Stamper) have NOT been iconic.  Xenia was the closest.

The two most iconic henchmen, Jaws and Oddjob, have one thing in common: neither one speaks (save for Jaws's one line in "Moonraker").  Could this be the route EON is taking, another mute-yet-distinctive henchmen?  If so, this could be REALLY welcome news!

I don't think that it will be.  Since they're referring to it being an "iconic" type of henchman, I'd imagine that henchmen like Jaws, Odd Job, or Red Grant (if you want to count him as a henchman) would be the potential molds that they might be looking towards emulating in Bond 24.

Also, unlike when Mr Kill was used, they have a director with good taste and intelligence.

But surely Mendes will want to give his henchman an all-time classic entrance like that of Mr. Kil's. ;)

I doubt Hinx is the name of the henchman.......probably a fake until they give us the real one.....I don't think it will be difficult to find an actor who is 6'2 and have stunt training.....

Elvis was intended by the film makers to be awful. He was the "anti-henchman".

The last "iconic" hench-person we've had was Xenia Onatopp. Stamper, Renard, Mr Kil, Zao - either unoriginal or just plain awful.

Craig has not faced a decent hench-person thus far in his tenure, so I'd say he's due. Just no more blond Grant clones please.

Patrice was pretty good and might be consider Craig best henchman he faced.......too bad he was not in the film long or he could fit the bill of classic henchman that is a physical match

Patrice was as bland as they come. No personality. No distinguishing features.

Agreed.  Patrice was a pretty lame character.  Bland, much like much of the rest of Skyfall.

Well, this is good news. The Craig era needs an imposing physical force to go up against Bond. Particularly one so manly in Daniel Craig.

With this, and the likelihood of snow, I'm happy with what I'm hearing. But yes, Hinx isn't a good name.

Although Carte Blanche wasn't much of a novel, my favorite aspect was the character of Niall Dunne. I would welcome a henchman like that in Bond 24.

The reboot continues, or as I'm beginning to think of it, the "reconstruction" of the Bond series. We get "Bond Begins" with CR. "Bond Continues Where He Left Off" with QoS. And in SF the reinvention of three key characters - Q, Moneypenny and right at the end, complete with appropriate office and furnishings a male M.

And now an iconic henchman. I have no problem with this, it's long overdue. Even the continuation authors had their evil geniuses with the sinister hired help on hand to rough up Bond. (I've finished the audio book of Devil May Care, and as it's over five years since I read the novel I'd forgotten just how grotesque and gruesome "Chagrin" was.)

I hope the hired help is closer to my favourite heavy from the films, Donald Grant, or Oddjobb. My fear is that this henchman will be more along the lines of the clumsy Jaws, to allow a bit of visual light relief and to please the kids. But we'll see.

One other thing I hope we'll see, and I don't think this has been done for years, or even decades. The battle is over, the arch villain defeated, and Bond goes off with the girl - but the henchman is still at large and confronts 007 and squeeze in one last scrap, usually aboard a vehicle - car, 'plane, ocean liner, yacht etc. I wouldn't mind seeing that one more time.

All we need then, maybe in the next movie or Bond 25, is the return of an evil mastermind with a cat and a woman Craig's Bond sleeps with actually making it to the end of the movie alive and well, and the "reconstruction" would be complete!

I'm all up for this, but I'll be so annoyed if it's just another disposable bad-guy to help move the plot forward, almost like Patrice. Granted he wasn't very memorable or imposing BUT he gave Bond a good run for his money and he was offed to quick and easy.

If this is an "imposing, classic henchman", we need his / her presence all the way through the movie to add the threat, menace and excitement of confrontation like Jaws, Hans and Oddjob - heck, even MayDay!

If they are killed off too quick, then they are nothing but disposable and not worthy of being that classic henchman who is always around until the finale.

I welcome this bit of casting news, however, I just can't see anyone being as good as Red Grant, Stamper, or the king of them all, Jaws.

Patrice was ok, Elvis was just pointless. Might as well have had Dominic Greene carry a blow-up doll around with him, wearing a stupid wig.

This description, at least for me, seems to ask more questions than answer. Considering a majority of the main henchmen post GF were either variations of Oddjob or Grant, this description doesn't help that much. I liked Xenia, but even she was basically Fatima Blush from NSNA, who was Fiona Volpe from TB. That's where a character like Irma Bunt was a welcome change and stood out.

Yeah, it's hard to be original after all these films, but why bother like the last few films, with having a super henchman if you have a strong enough main villain. Just please don't let it be a turncoat Mi6 agent.

Sometimes, for the newer films, I wish for one of those classic instances where the henchman outlives the main villain and makes a surprise return towards the end of the film: examples - Tee Hee (plus Baron Samedi, haha!), Nick Nack, Wint and Kidd, etc.

Whether or not the henchman ends up being a turncoat, there's every likelihood that there will be one somewhere in the film.  EON just can't seem to help themselves in that department, with there being one in every film since 1987 with the exception of Tomorrow Never Dies (LTK- Killifer, GE - 006, TWINE - Elektra, DAD - Frost, CR - Vesper, QOS - MItchell, SF - Silva).

Good spot, Shrublands.

Interesting that they're advertising the role in this way, even if only within the industry. They must have big plans for this henchman, to give him a bigger profile than the likes of Patrice, Elvis and even Mr White from recent films.
