Reports are circulating that this is the rejected Del Rey submission for Spectre:

It's like, 12 seconds or something.

And regarding the 'WOTW' song, it makes so much sense with the gorgeous title sequence, matching up lyrically and emotionally to the film. One of the best title sequences in the whole series, not just the Craig era.

Yes, one of the best, one of the strangest, one of the most exotic and erotic. I particularly liked

The first time I heard this song, I immediately thought of Bond and could definitely see it.

"Reports circulating" sounds pseudonymous for 'rumour'.

Sure, it has a four-note vamp around the middle, but then so do 'Summer Wine' and plenty of other non-contenders.

The claim originated with the NY Post as far as I can tell. Not sure if there's anything legitimate to it.

The lyrics fit Bond better than anything else on the album.

I'd say it lends itself easily to the idea of a 'rejected' Bond theme, regardless if this claim has any substance.
Then again it sounds perhaps more like something this UNCLE remake might have used...

To those who have seen the film: Do you recall if the song has been edited? And if so, what was cut?

It is edited and from what I can remember, we lose the lyrics:

"I'm prepared for this
I never shoot to miss
But I feel like a storm is coming
If I'm gonna make it through the day
Then there's no more use in running
This is something I gotta face"

and one of the final verses of this:

"How do I live? How do I breathe?
When you're not here I'm suffocating
I want to feel love, run through my blood
Tell me is this where I give it all up?"

It is far more enjoyable and "to the point" with the edits, working well with the visuals and thankfully the orchestra itself sounds very prominent.

Sam Smith says he was "naive" about his song, and thought everyone would love it.

Just picked up the CD single today and listened to the "instrumental" track and you can clearly hear Sam Smith in it. It sounds like they simply deleted his audio track but unfortunately the other microphones used for the instruments were still able to pick him up. I don't know why they didn't separately rerecorded the song without him present. It kind of ruins it since it's suppose to be an instrumental.

Whilst I have weakened eyesight - I'm myopic - I compensate with my hearing. And yes, I could hear "echoes" of Sam Smith on in the "how can I live, how can I breathe" bit.

It's the karaoke recording, I'm guessing. There's a woman at Saturday night karaoke in my local pub who does "Skyfall" - she uses the instrumental version on the CD disk.

So far she hasn't attempted WOTW - none of the punters have! If anyone does in future I'll doff my cap to that person - but mutter under my breath "best of luck with that!" ;-)

Just saw SPECTRE.  And... theme song WOTw is still ROTt.

During the titles, all I could think was "YUCK, get through this was quickly as possible."

Absolutely horrible theme song.  Horrible.

Really bill007? Wow! Strong view there. :)

I actually thought the song worked so much better with the visuals to enhance it, and the lyrics made so much more sense in the context of what we saw on film and the story itself.

The truncated version in the film does work much better and Daniel Kleinmann did a phenomenal job with the title sequence, as he always does. IMO, it still doesn't top Skyfall's haunting dream sequence, but that one is one of a kind. The song has begrudgingly grown on me somewhat, but that really only means I like it more than Another Way to Die and Die Another Day. Not really saying much.

It was a song - some music to accompany the titles. Sam Smith threw in some emotion. As someone said a few pages back, it sounds like he was singing both parts of a duet by himself. Then it was over and we got on with the story.

I don't expect it will become one of my favorites, but I'm too lazy to summon up the energy to hate it.

The title song for "SPECTRE" reminds me of the title song for "SKYFALL" . . . decent, but unmemorable.

Adele does no wrong in my book but someone mentioned Annie Lenox and I think she also do an amazing Bond theme song.

The song does work better with the titles and that's that. The titles itself are... bizarre. Not in a bad way, but it was all very surreal-like and I felt Kleinman over did it with the octopus.

I wasn't the biggest fan of the title song upon hearing it for the first time, but felt it worked pretty well with the visuals upon actually seeing SPECTRE. It's fine. Not the best, but completely servicable.

I agree that the Octopus was overdone, however, I thought for the most part the titles were really good. They aren't the haunting, nightmarish masterpiece that was the Skyfall sequence, but they did a great job to convey Bond's psyche over the last several years. I would've liked to see more Day of the Dead stuff though.

This song is so much like the movie, starting off with such promise and then delivering nothing when the climax arrives.  Might have worked as a duet and made more sense for the story.

As for the titles, I agree with seawolfnyy on the need for more Day of the Dead stuff (like Skyfall's Chinese dragons.)

I may be the only person here who likes this song. Mind you, I don't love it. "You Know My Name" and "Skyfall" were vastly better, in my opinion. But I think it did work surprisingly well with the credits ... much better than I was expecting. And blast it all, I can't get it out of my head! (Some of you will consider that a curse.) I still would have preferred a more uptempo song, but what's done is done.

I didn't think I could dislike this song more, but after seeing it ruin a perfectly good otherwise title sequence... For the first time ever I think I'll be fast forwarding the titles when the film comes out on Blu Ray.

I'm the same as you. You Know My Name and Skyfall are better, but I have grown to accept WOTW just fine. Can't wait to see how it goes with the titles.
