Is it probably too much to think that Skyfall could catch Deathly Hallows Part 2?

Yes, I think that's out of reach. The very best will be toppling Transformers: Dark of the Moon.

I'm now quite confident that it will top Dark Knight Rises.

Great job, Mr. Bond. Would it be too optimistic to hope for highest grossing of all time?

It's the most successful Bond film of all time, yes.
Not yet, Skyfall still needs about $15,000,000 to overtake Thunderball.

Not according to Eon.

Eon aren't taking inflation into account. Thunderball has sold more tickets (but not by much now).

A bling Bond sequence ? Here's one :

You can skip the first 12 seconds to go directly to the gunbarrel.

I'll let you discover it without context, but it was really conceived as a "bling Bond"...

Looks like Skyfall has now passed TDK and is the 13th highest grossing film of all time (worldwide, unadjusted for inflation).

Just get in that Top 10 and it will be immense. Really fantastic Bond is doing so, so well in the global box-office.

Skyfall entering the top 10 is all but guaranteed at this point (As China is expected to easily bring in more than the 20 million required to get there) how far up the top 10 it gets is the real question at this point, personally I hope it makes enough to overtake The Dark Knight Rises (abit of a stretch but it might just have the legs to do so.)

Skyfall's success is really quite incredible, I don't think anyone expected it to be the film that beat Thunderball!

I figure it is going to settle in at either 6th or 7th. The US is good for another 10-15 million and China should bring in 30 (QoS did 21).

I'm going to say position 5. Skyfall will do a lot better than QoS in China, the market there has expanded beyond recognition since 2008.

Well, it hasn't - yet...

Adjusted to 2012 money:

Thunderball - $1,031,974,768

Skyfall - $1,023,300,000

Almost...

Transformer 3 was a 3D movie, so it had higher ticket prices than Skyfall.

I think even now there was a worldwide bigger audience, that has seen Skyfall, than Transformers 3.

They only paid less for their tickets, so Skyfall hasn't reached the box office numbers of Transformers.

At least it's already surpassed the first two Transformers films.  Haven't seen the third (don't plan to either), but I can't imagine that it's worse than the second one.

From what I saw on Box Office Mojo, it's not too terribly far behind the third Transformers.  It should be able to catch it and, if not, there's always the chance of a theatrical re-release to help boost it if the film gains a few nominations on Thursday.

I saw only 40 minutes of 'Dark Of The Moon'. Transformers don't show up until about that time. It's worse than 'Revenge Of The Fallen'.

I believe I either watched it on Netflix or downloaded. 40 minutes was all I could stomach. No desire to see it. The trailer for Transformers 4 with Mark Wahlberg is going to have to impress the hell out of me and blow me away to want to see it. It was a fun franchise when it started, but then it quickly sank.

I didn't think Dark Of The Moon was as bad as Revenge of the Fallen. That's not saying much, but still......I did like the first one, though. Don't judge me.

EON is going to have a hard row to hoe if they want to match Skyfall for Bond 23. I fear the Dark Knight Rises Syndrome here.

I seriously doubt that the next one will match Skyfall's box office success.  That doesn't mean that it'll be a failure by any stretch, but given that Skyfall will finish as one of the two highest-grossing Bond films (when adjusted for inflation, anyway), it's almost a certainty that the next one won't do quite as well.  It'll still do very well, though.

I never expected TDKR to make a billion and/or match TDK's box office. It did it and we were given a terrible film.

I believe we have a good formula starting to go now. I believe Bond 24 will be a great film and It definitely will do great at the Box office. If it doesn't make a billion, It will do close to that number.

If Skyfall gets a Best Film nomination at the Oscars, which are announced Thursday, then it should push a few more people who haven't yet seen it into the cinemas. Also, an "Nominated for (x) Academy Awards" should look good on the posters in China and help push numbers there. With the PGA nomination, it's not out of the question.

I don't think an Academy Award nom is going to help it in China. It may get a minor bump in the US, but I kinda doubt it too. Minor (again) if anything.

It may not need help in China though. It's getting released on Jan 21st there. There's little competition from what I hear - The Hobbit got delayed and Chinese New Year may give it higher numbers. Plus it partially takes place in Shanghai. On the downside, Skyfall only gets 30 days at the BO there and supposedly a pirated DVD is already out and running rampant. Most projections I've seen have it at 60 to 100 million. But who knows. Skyfall has beaten even the wildest expectations in just about every market. China may be no different.

Adjusted for inflation (to 2012 rate):

Thunderball - $1,031,974,768

Skyfall - $1,024,193,213

7 million to go...
