So I've been hearing rumors about Bond fighting a komodo dragon on the Chinese floating casino in Skyfall, and I'm wondering a couple things: If true will it be a real komodo? And if so will he actually fight it or will it just be a prop, so to speak?

And in trying to answer my own questions I stumbled upon this on youtube. I believe this may in fact support the rumor and in fact be the komodo that we will see in the film. Listen to the dialogue especially towards the end where he says the reptile was just in a movie and there was a little cgi used and note that this is the London Zoo and it was posted right around the time they started filming:

Anybody think I'm totally off base or just plain barking mad?

He actually says "we were filming all morning yesterday for a future film with him. They're going to do some CGI stuff."

Interesting find.

I know. Intriguing, isn't it?

I think Bond fighting a komodo dragon is a helluva idea (done right, that is). I hope it's true.

Hmm...this rumour makes me a little nervous....Bond fighitng a komodo dragon with CGI involved....hmmm, I don't know. I can't help think about Schwarzenegger vs Crocodile in 'Eraser'.

Waht sort of fight would this be, I mean, a dragon can only run, hiss, snap and bite - how would Bond fight one?

Wow this is all news to me and very exciting. Sounds like a classic Bond scene, when was the last time Bond was in danger of animals? Did I get them all?

Sorry peeps, my bad. I should've known how to put it in a spoiler section and didn't, can anyone point out how I find the appropriate spoiler section so I don't repeat my mistake? And thank you for changing the title, that was 100% the right move.

Incidentally, I'd also really like to re-spell L4YRCAKE to L4YERCAKE but can't figure that out either, any advice? Sorry if this is all simple to everyone but myself! :)

If you look above the topics in the main Skyfall (2012) forum, there is the link to the SPOILERS: Skyfall

There is a forum for name changes, but it doesn't look like it's been taken into account by the mods recently. Unfortunately they are the ones who change the usernames.

That Komodo Dragon's a bit on the small side. I was hoping for a larger beast than that.

Then again, it sounds like they might have been using him to create a wireframe model. So the dragon in the film could be bigger.

Yes. It’s being digitally captured to be added to live action. It can be any size the film makers want in the finished film. The same one seems to be being used as the basis for several.

Makes sense. Doing anything with one of the larger-sized Komodo dragons would be...I think....fairly impossible.

I'd assume they don't take direction well.

My only hope is that the Dragon doesn't look too fake. I know CGI has greatly improved since Die Another Day, but you know.

But with CGI the G stands for ‘generated’. So this is not CGI - here the dragon has not been generated in a computer, it’s a real one. It will be digitally composited with the action shot at the Pinewood set.
For reference, the snake and the mongoose were digitally composited into the shots for CR.

This is very unlike the waves and ice in that sequence in DAD, which were all generated in a computer.

Look at the way the model of the collapsing house, filmed at Pinewood, was digitally matted into the Venice cityscape. Two elemental are separately photographed and impressively brought together via a digital composite. Nothing to worry about.

Were they really? I'd always wondered about that, it makes sense. Any idea if the animals were actually fighting? I'm assuming they weren't, right? Apparently I need to sit down and finally listen to the Casino Royale DVD commentary...

Done right, this Komodo sequence could really, really be something.

Well I never knew the mongoose and snake were digitally put into 'Casino Royale' - they looked real on set to me, so if this Komodo Dragon does appear in the same way, I'll be confident it'll work, but only in a few menacing shots.
