I'm talking about on-screen title captions and the like.

Yeah, I hate that. It is not how the film was originally intended.

This will definitely be their chance to go back and fix all of those little things for the new Blu-ray releases.

It's not as if they "owe" the fans anything, but it'd still be nice to see.

It would be nice if they could fix those as well. For me, though, if Fox goes against their usual practice of putting out the highest priced Blu-rays and actually makes these films reasonably affordable, then I'll be happy.

I am anxiously awaiting more details on these. The price is key. Costco is selling the Ultimate Collector's Set with all the movies for $120 after a rebate right now. I don't care how good the picture on Blu-ray is; if I have to choose between a few Blu-ray movies or the complete collection, I'm heading home with all the movies. On the picture transfer, I'm hoping they use the 4K scans of the Connery films out of the gate & don't try to hit me up for the next Blu-ray version with "improved picture."

I agree that DTS Imaging should try and fix some of the things that didn't look quite right on the Ultimate Edition DVD's. It would be nice if they scanned ALL of the films at 4K as well.

They will look awesome on blu ray for sure though! Just not having to be so compressed like they are on dvd will help a ton. Plus you can see much more detail! And the uncompressed audio will be awesome too!

I'm planning on getting the Sony BD550? It comes out later this Fall. It should have analog outs for those of us without HDMI receivers. : )

I'm really hoping the do a box set for the releases too.

I love all of the Roger Moore films, but will get them all of course.

Just been on Play.com, at first glance I thought the cover art had been completed (with original poster art)

http://www.play.com/...;searchsource=1

But it's probably just up until the real art comes along, it states on some of them that the artwork was to be confirmed.

That would definitely make alot of fans happy if it turned out to be the real deal.

Yeah, they should probably sue the guys who did the art for the DVDs and ask for their money back, they were a total photoshop joke. Let's rejuvenate the art, because this 90's techno photoshop looks OLD.

Even the redone cover artwork for the Ultimate Edition DVDs didn't meet with widespread fan approval upon their initial unveiling...

Plus fans are being to get the feeling they are buying the same movies year in year out.
Make a total makeover using the original poster art, and at least, they will get the feeling they get something new.

Is that aimed at me?

I'm sure nothing I could ever do would ruin your excitement.

I'm merely stating the view that no matter how perfect the blu ray versions are, I simply wouldn't pay the full, initial price for them (the price will drop, substantially in the first 18 months). I don't think that's particuarly extreme.

NB: 10 and $10 are not the same. 10 is about $20... and I reckon the'll hit that by the beginning of 2010.

I rarely buy films brand new. Sometimes I only have to wait a few days to save up to half on some titles and a few weeks or months for others. For example, I just picked up my 2-Disc special Casablanca release for about $5.

It seems some of the classics move pretty quickly between standard retail price of, say, £17 to discounted "3 for £10" deals here in the UK. The Bond DVDs before the ultimate editions were great examples of this - a lot of retailers had them on a buy one get one free offer - reducing them to about £6 a pop.

I could live with them if they are genuine. Frankly, with Blu-ray cases being smaller than standard DVD cases, there isn't much real estate to work with so I'm not expecting anything that exciting. I'd guess a rehash of the Ultimate Edition DVD covers will be used.

They have re-released the films enough as it is, luckily I never bought them all over again. I own most of the old Special Editions except for Live and Let Die, Moonraker, and For Your Eyes Only which are the bare bones Ultimate Editions plus Casino Royale on Bluray (this alone sold me on the format).

I wouldn't be surprised once QoS is about to hit DVD and Bluray they will come out with yet another set. If they re-release all the old films on Bluray I may just start to replace my old discs, but only if they are proper versions that actually take advantage of the new format. If not then I'll stick with just getting QoS.

With the amazing amount of fan art out there for the Bond films and DVDs, I'm often skeptical.

Those covers aren't too bad, and they would probably be pretty decent if they would just stop putting that awful "007" logo behind each film title.

Not happy with the cover art at all, do the people at MGM/UA/SONY or whoever, really think that artwork is better than the original poster artwork?

What a disgusting insult.

Have the Bond films ever been sold on nostalgia, though?

The day may come, but I'm yet to see it. In fact, it's only recently that Fleming's books have been marketed as such - and they're much more ensconced in their period setting than any of the 007 movies.

As for these covers, they don't blow me away, but they look quite nice.

Since Blu-ray players are supposed to make standard DVDs look even better than a regular DVD player, has anybody here with a Blu-ray player ever made a comparison? I'd like to hear the results.

In my experience, it just depends on the movie. The upconversion really benefits the newer DVD releases as opposed to the earlier ones. In my experience, upconverting the older discs results in a bit of picture noise whereas the upconversion on newer discs has less of that, and sometimes the results can be quite good. But, once again, it all depends on the disc, and the results can vary greatly, but generally the newer films benefit more than older ones.

The upconversion definitely helps but, as tdalton mentions, the newer movies do look better because you are usually watching a better transfer of the movie. You can only do so much if the source material isn't very good. On another note, even when your favorite older movies do make it to the promised land of Blu-ray, don't expect a Revenge of the Sith-like picture. A lot of people mistake film grain for noise in the picture. Good article at The Digital Bits about it here. Scroll down a few paragraphs to the one starting with "Finally today..."
