UPDATE: BN.com now shows the release date of OHMSS, YOLT, and TSWLM as September 28. An extra month - dang it!

I don't agree at all. The books are not at all modern. I've heard critisism somewhere about Moonraker being too dated and whatnot, that's bogus. Put you're mind in the 1950's is what I say. I think modern covers are sorta pointless when you read the books themselves.

But, really, it's all about taste. What suits your tastes is fine and I respect that. But, in my opinion, the UK covers are boring to me compared to the US ones. The UK ones are nice, but I still like the retro look.

Geeez...
I brought home Live and Let Die yesterday, and I actually kept it in the bag so my wife wouldn't slap me upside the head. I felt like I was 13 again, trying to sneak a Playboy into my parent's house. :)
This artwork is amazing. Not only are the covers retro, but the women have the classic full-bodied look of the 50's and 60's, not the waif-thin-with-plastic-breasts look of today.
I certainly hope some prints of these hit the market.

At least you weren't reading it on the train, and someone looked over your shoulder as you were reading the "restored" chapter seven.
(Me either, I'll just have to be careful when I'm ready to re-read them.)

Amazon has posted pics for the next 3 books -- looks like OHMSS has undergone a change of title font.

I wonder why they don't show the pic of TSWLM

I like the new font better. Also notice that the snow is now behind the title where before it was only in a diagonal stripe.

Thanks Mr. *. I hadn't spotted that.

I like the cover change. The first one's font looks like something out of a fairy tale...

Another minor thing (beside the obvious Penguin logo) the 007 is a darker blue on the final version. The other minor colour differences can be attributed to different scanners or different colour correction profiles.

I kinda like the old font-it is more uniqe than the simpler one in the final. Kinda alpine looking.

ps: on further looking I think the new font is good-more germanic blackletter gothic looking than the earlier swiss curlycue looking type face. I am a graphic artist at a newspaper and type consistancy is beaten into me, but I think the different typefaces to fit the character is cool.

I like the covers a lot. Very striking. I like the character illustrations as well. Clearly, those in charge were not interested in a slapped together affair. Great job!

Actually, funnily enough, I think Fleming often considered his novels to be "fairy tales for adults".

But I do agree that the new cover is better, and the new font is much better because it makes the title more readable and less flowery.

Just ordered Moonraker and Live and Let Die off of Amazon. Can't wait to finally read them. Which one do you recommend I read first?

Well, LALD chronologically happens before MR so I would read that first. The covers look positively shocking. Too bad they are so expensive.

Thank you.
