I just finished reading my first Ian Fleming 007 novel. The first one was Moonraker. I like it a lot. I know I said in another thread that I am a #1 fan and I am even thought I just read my first Fleming novel.

I started at the beginning and read Casino Royale but just prior to that I had read 007 in New York which is a very obscure short story.

Good job DieAnotherDay57, this is your first real thread. The first Fleming book I ever read was 'Dr. No' and I didn't really like it.

The first Fleming book I read was Doctor No about 6 years ago. Why didn't you like it Righty007?

My first one was Goldfinger, followed by On Her Majesty's Secret Service and The Spy Who Loved Me, but I do like Moonraker very much, too :)

Tried to read my brother's copy of Thunderball aged 9 and struggled. Read it properly aged 17 and loved it. Read the others over the next three years and became a massive Fleming fan.

Mine was Casino Royale as well. The rest of Fleming's books followed in order (except for You Only Live Twice which I was too anxious to read - I read it after Live and Let Die).

Casino Royale in high school circa 1982. Didn't like it the first time I read it. It grew on me the second time. Second book was Goldfinger, which is my fave Fleming book.

You Only Live Twice was the first for me when I was 11. I remember not liking it because it was so diferent to the movie, which was the very first Bond movie I saw and loved - at a drive-in Bondfest in 1972.

At the time I didn't know anything about Bond except the odd passing comment between my parents (Mum seemed the most enthused about him), but after reading the book I learned that there were others written before that one. So I decided to give Bond another read, first with Casino Royale followed by the others.

After the 3rd novel I began to appriciate the difereing worlds of the literary and cinematic Bonds.

The Bond Novels are great for reading on long journeys I seem to find. I read Casino Royale on a 6 hours train trip but finished it at about halfway through the journey. Luckily though, my brother had just bought the novelisation of TWINE so I began that...never finished it though.

I didn't like it because it was hard to understand, hard to follow and a little boring.

My first one was Casino Royale. It was a strange experience since I was only accustomed to the cinematic Bond. I then read Dr.No, which was a bit of a dissapointment after CR, but it was still good. I'm currently working my way through Goldfinger, which I think is really good.

Same with me DanMan.

I had only ever seen Bond on the television and at the cinema.

But I decided to read them in order starting with Casino Royale, which coincidentally I'm re-reading now.

I was born in the sixties. So I was a young boy when the James Bond phenomenom exploded on earth. But I was to young to see the movies in theatres.
When I was ten years old, I read my fist James Bond book: casino royale. And i became dependent. The James Bond I discovered in book was different from the one I was told by adults. But i was amazed by the very human character and the fantastic universe of Fleming

I actually started off with the Bensons, then halfway through them I got into Fleming. I almost read Dr. No first, but I didn't get around to it, so I started with Casino Royale later on. I'm currently working through the Flemings in order, with From Russia With Love almost done.

I started with Casino Royale at the age of 12 and I am now gradually making my way through the series in chronological order.

I think I had a few false starts. I found my dad's collection of Bond books right about the time I was just getting into the movies. I think I tried to read OHMSS and YOLT, but gave up because there we SO different from the movies. Then, at some later point, I read DR. NO on a camping trip (before I had ever seen the movie) and LOVED it. That got me into the groove and I started reading them all -- and this was about the time Gardner started writing so I really caught the Bond lit wave at that point.

I had to start from scratch....CASINO ROYALE!! i remember reading that novel right after Goldeneye came out (i'm a young-in @ 20!!) and i really fell for Bond and became an avid fan after finishing the book. i went on a rampage and read every fleming novel i could get my hands on and worked my way on from there. now i constantly reread my favorites...can never get sick of the bond novels...especially the fleming ones...so essentially timeless.

I had several false starts myself. I would look at certain passages and things and attempted to read some for school requirements, but found it hard to finish them because, being younger at the time, they were more mature and very much unlike the films.

The first Bond novel I finished was License Renewed, but I think the first Fleming I finished was Casino Royale.

Dr. No back in the fifth grade. The lady at the library warned my mother not to let someone so young and impressionable read such horrible stuff. Hmmmm... you know, the way I turned out, she may have had something there.

My first was Dr. No. I had gotten that, Goldfinger and Thunderball for my birthday along with the corresponding films. I think I was about ten or eleven at the time.
