The Living Daylights is far better than LTK (but then, anything is better than that turkey). On the whole, Dalton's fine in the role though there are several moments where his acting is a bit shakey. It is probably the best Bond of the '80s.
It's a pity that they had to mess up the follow-up.
(BTW, all of Brosnan's movies, with the exception of DAD are far better than Dalton's efforts, LTK is the only Bond movie I hate)
The Living Daylights is so good its scary!

I fully agree with doublenoughtspy.
"The Living Daylights" was truly spectacular. What a wonderful way to introduce us to the new Bond in a death-defying car chase. I knew this Bond would be a classic when the tag slid down the rock-climbing rope to the double-o agent and declared "Smiert Spiernum" (death to spies). What followed was a terrific storyline of double crosses and a very focused Bond hot on the trail. John Barry's score was very very good as well.
