What about this one - Kerim Bey and Raul? Tamahori said he wanted to bring back small characters like Kerim Bey, and plus, Kerim Bey and Raul were both played by Hispanic actors.

The new model of electric shaver that Bond uses in the hotel when he is escapes the hospital/prison is the Norelco SPECTRA......only one letter away from SPECTRE. This is a new model designed specifically for the movie.

A lot of this is getting kinda carried away, like Stromberg mentioned. There are some good, interesting ones, yes. But, this is a Bond film and he often repeats the same thigns over.

The gun under the pillow thing is nothing new. He mentioned long before that he sleeps with a gun under his pillow.. hell it may even be in the novels, I don't know. Its not a reference. Its Bond.

Bond surfs because Bond has never surfed before and they needed a new action sequence, its not exactly harking back on when he surfed thru the snow in AVTAK.

The part when Zao was choking Bond with the wire COULD have been a reference but then again, it couldn't have been either. That one is questionable.

Like I said, some of these are pretty good but others are just .... you're thinking too hard. We'll find more as we see the film over again and again.

no, you can' say that because in cultures around the world, 2 men hugging is not gay, but a sign of respect and friendship

I agree with what you said, the gun for example has been used several times, anyone remember Fiona in thunderball?

Was it just me or does the Japanese hut Bond and Jinx escape to at the end of DAD remind you of the Japense hut Bond and Kissy shared in their search for Blofeld in YOLT?

Is the Korean DMZ to the coast of Japan within the flight range of the McDonnell/Boeing NOTAR chopper?

I haven't seen this mentioned yet so here goes:

The TMWGG I believe is when Bond walks through the hall of mirrors in the clinic in Cuba. That is a nod to Scaramanga's shooting gallery.

As for FYEO...there has got to be one somewhere....

I thought about this after I logged off last night...

I have a feeling the FYEO reference will either involve a Crossbow (which did appear in Madonna's video) or a bracelet, not unlike the one Lisl wears. Someone check Frost's wrists during the party scene, or when she is dressed at Blades.

Apart from the obvious "Birds Of The West Indies" and "Diamonds Are For Everyone" quip, there are some moments/images in the film that are possible homages - but very cleverly disguised....?

1) We here "Hamburg" mentioned at the clinic in Cuba - an homage to the TND Location?

2) Similarly, we visit P'yongNang (North Korea) which is mentioned as a throw-away line in TWINE as Renard's posible wearabouts. ("All the perfect vacation spots")

3) Jinx / Frost cat fight an homage to the 'bitch fight' in FRWL?

4) Graves is sucked out of the plane as was Goldfinger.

5) Bond's Cuban drive (a chevy I think) has a very familiar licence plate.
BMT...

6) The fire sprinklers in the cuban clinic might be an homage to the same sprinkler shots at Mi6 HQ in the pre-credits for TWINE? - similarly filmed also.

7) Chinese Intelligence filming bond in his hotel room an homage to FRWL?

Musical Homages...

Antonov: The homage to TWINE's "pipeline"

Going Down Together: Opening strings are remeniscent of YOLT (One of Arnold's favorite Bond scores)

There are more I'm sure - anybody else notice anything, or have any thoughts about my suggestions?

When Bonds car jumps on wheels by the ejection seat, a rocket fired by Zao flys under the car, just like the rocket that flys under the tanker that drives on one side wheels in LICENCE TO KILL.

-When Bond pulls the cord on Graves' parachute, causing him to get sucked out the plane, is the same tactic he used to escape from gunpoint on the jeep in the precredits sequence of OCTOPUSSY

-The entire escape from the back of the Antonov screams THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS

-twice Bond removed his wetsuit, wearing dry clothes underneath, much like in GOLDFINGER

-one of Q's failed gadgets can be spotted in the lab, the curled up rope thingy... ("having trouble keeping it up, Q?") from OCTOPUSSY (i think..)

-Bond getting his double-o status revoked, ala LICENCE TO KILL

-Moneypenny listens in on M's conversations through the intercom, much like in the earlier films (FRWL especially)

Bond puts a gun under his pillow VERY obviously, suggesting a deliberate nod towards TND.

He pinches a grape from the room in the clinic like in TB.

The parachute trick in the Jeep is in fact from TLD not OP as suggested above. Never-the-less - well spotted!

thanks.. but it IS from OP... don't you remember? the girl driving beside the jeep distracts the guards while Bond pulls their parachutes, then escapes with the acrostar jet...
sure he parachutes in TLD, but the trick was pulled in OP

A License to Kill homage: When Bond arrives at Cuba, he claims he represents "Universal Exports". He said the exact same thing in LTK when he was visiting the port.

When Jinx and Bond infiltrated the Plane at the end the music is very reministant of the Goldeneye Opening scene music. When 006 and Bond infiltrate the Factory.

Well, Zao's death is an obvious homage to 006's death in GE, then there is Jinx coming out of the sea, a homage to Ursula Andress in Dn, and maybe (I think) I spotted a homage to OHMSS in there. In the btch fight at the end, just before Miranda says ''I can read your every move'', Jinx throws a knife and it hits a diary. In OHMSS, Bond throws a knife and it hits a calender, but who knows if this is a homage or not:confused:. Also, i think I got a homage from TMWTGG, in the bitch fight, Jinx uses 2 small swords, like in the karate school fight in TMWTGG:)

The bell that Bond leaps to when the hovercraft goes over the cliff is remarkably similair to the bell that was rung at Bond's wedding in You Only Live Twice. I never heard that one mentioned before. :)

Some pretty obvious ones everyone has overlooked:

The film centers around Bond, which coincidentaly does DN, FRWL, GF, TB... ...GE, TND and TWINE

There is a villain intent on causing chaos

M is in this film, as is Moneypenny

:) :) :)

Seriously, the laser fight is a reminder of GF, and Bond uses his watch to cut a circle in the ice much like cutting the roof in the dam sequence of GoldenEye

All in all, this one was fully stocked.

I knew there was something I wanted to post this morning! Watched YOLT yesterday and noticed this one. But I'm not sure if this bell fits well into Korean culture and religion (anyone else out there knows about such things?) and so I think this is clearly a reference.

A friend of mine mentioned another one, but he was of course joking: he said that the bad CGI could have been a reference to some not-so-good looking special effects in earlier movies (especially the erupting volcano in YOLT and the chinese rockets in DAF) :)

Actually, it was Thunderball. The line in TND was an homage to TB also.

But of course! That should have been a dead giveaway.

The bit in the subway with M and they walk past some kind of shooting gallery, as they stand and talk you can see the targets in the background and they are pretty strange targets. From what I can see the one nearest the camera looks like Pussy Galore, the hair is right anyway, the next one along was too blurred for me to see but it was different again.
This isnt a 'homage' as such but struck me as an odd target to be shooting at.

Nobody has mentiond this but in the Q Lab Bond uses the briefcase from From Russia With Love, and reveals the hidden knife, Bond says something like "I get the point Q" the only thing is that the knife come out point first, not handle first as in From Russia With Love

OK...I think I found the FYEO references:

-- Miranda's jewelery and dress is similar in style and cut to Lisl's.

-- The outfit PB as Bond wears in the Ice Ballet is very similar to the one RM wears when kicking the car off the cliff.
-- -- Also the final image from that scene in FYEO is duplicated by PB on what was originally the cover of "Bond on Set."

Only Bond, I believe the hut is intended to be Korean, not Japanese...from where they were it would take like three hours or so, I think to get to Japan, so I doubt the helicopter could make it, what I'm not sure is what Korea they're in, and questions abound, how'd they find the hut, they obviously went straight there after escaping the Anotov....hmmmm

-The Ford Bond drives in Cuba in DAD appears to be the same model as the one that gets rockets fired into it in T'Ball (albeit black and not a convertible)...

-DAD and FYEO both mention The Olympics...

-From another thread, pre-credits of Octopussy Bond pulls on parachute cords of 2 guards and they are pulled off of the vehicle when the chutes open. In DAD Bond pulls on Graves chute cord that pulls Graves out of the plane.

Oh, for goodness sake! That's like saying having a "00" number is a homage! Bond always works for Universal Exports, that's always MI6's cover. He doesn't use it in every movie, but he uses it often, from Dr. No onward. It's in most all of the books, as well.
