For me Ronin would have made a brilliant 007 movie, no holds barred all out spy action.

It's strange how seldom RONIN is mentioned in general, it doesn't seem to have a big reputation. And yet the Bourne films certainly owe a bit more to RONIN than they do to the Bond films.

my pick would be time shifted - the Dalton of TLD & LTK or slightly younger maybe in Daniel Craig's place for Casino Royale

 

I think its fair to say the Craig movies took the credit for doing darker, vulnerable Bond when Dalton was really doing it a long time ago but audiences and the production team weren't ready for it really, it was the same old done slightly differently in many ways  - but given the material and the willingness to go back to Fleming and the character with writers like Haggis & Logan (even with P&W still on board) that Timothy would have knocked it out of the park - maybe better than Daniel Craig.

It has one of my favourite car chases. There's a gripping realism to it, thanks partly to the low angle POV cams. But mainly it's down DeNiro's authentic fear and trepidation at travelling at such high speed; near the end he's practically hiding behind the steering wheel. Great stuff.

 

It's owes a lot to The French Connection's gritty car/L-Train chase - probably the best chase sequence ever shot. That's pretty neat considering Frankenheimer directed French Connection 2.

I really would've loved to have seen the Ben Hecht scripted Casino Royale that never got made in the early '60s.

Another interesting entry might have been the fictional Moonraker adaptation with Dirk Bogarde.

I'm a bit torn on my selection, but I'll put it here anyway.

 

Parts of me really want to see the version of "Bond 17" with Dalton that had a Disney Imagineer'd cyborg hench(wo)man... and most of me thinks that would have *actually* killed cinematic Bond.

 

Overall, I'm glad we got our first "gritty" "reboot" with 'Goldeneye' in 1995... but a third Dalton outing seems the most interesting to me.

 

Who knows, maybe we'll get a cyborg in Bond the next time Bond gets excessively silly! *If* Bond ever returns to being silly.

A fun, stand-alone Craig film between QOS and SF.

 

A fun 5th Craig film not directed by Mendes and not scored by Newman.

YES! The operative word being "stand-alone". I'm a big fan of the Craig films, but not of the apparent need for each of them to somehow be linked to all the previous ones. Who'll turn out to have been pulling Blofeld's strings in the next one? Rosa Klebb?

A third Dalton film, no question about it. Both to see more of him (his tenure being so short is, for the most part, a tragedy) and to see how the film, with its more fantastical storyline, would've played against the previous two.
