Famous for such roles as Hans Gruber in 'Die Hard', Severus Snape in 'Harry Potter' and the Sherriff of Nottingham in 'Robin Hood: Prince Of Thieves' amongst many others.
Sad times indeed.

Wasn´t David Bowie enough this week?
Very sad, such a gifted, magnificent actor. I was lucky to saw hin on stage a few years ago. Impeccable.

I'm shocked about both Alan Rickman and David Bowie. How unfortunate and ironic that both were the same age and died of the same terrible cause within days of each other no less. Hans Gruber was one of the all-time great villains and no doubt Rickman's touch added what could have been a generic villain.
Fortunately, we'll always have their art to remain with us always.

RIP, Hans Gruber. I remember first seeing him in Die Hard and wishing that he would have played a Bond villain during the Timothy Dalton era which, sadly, never happened.

Sad news. I also loved him in Love Actually.

"You're nothing but a common thief."
Few actors could pull off Hans Gruber's comeback to Bruce Willis in Die Hard like Alan Rickman.
"No, I am an exceptional thief."
Now, I'm intrigued to check out Love Actuallly and some of his other dramatic work. He brought a certain humanity to Sevarus Snape too.
He would have made a good Elliot Carver.

Rickman was also friends with Arthur Calder-Marshall ("R.D. Mascott"), the chap who wrote that 1967 James Bond Junior novel. Rickman is also the godfather of Calder-Marshall's grandson, the actor Tom Burke (whose mother Anna Calder-Marshall co-starred with Timothy Dalton in the 1970 "Wuthering Heights").
Rickman did a reading of Calder-Marshall's memoirs "The Magic of My Youth" for BBC radio in 1985.

Terrible audio recording.
Nothing about Bond, buts lots about Calder-Marshall's one-time friend Aleister Crowley (English occultist, ceremonial magician, poet, painter, novelist, and mountaineer) whom Ian Fleming apparently also knew and no doubt based several Bond baddies on.
