Because its what we do.

Now say that in a Batman voice!

Sorry, that´s just the way I heard it inside my head when I read it ;)

Spell out the whole title?

"Ain't Nobody Got Time For That!"

I vote for SP, but no, this is not an earth shattering problem.

I say no shortening - It doesn't need it SPECTRE is good - it's only seven letters as it is, it's not like OHMSS, TSWLM, TWINE, TMWTGG etc - heck shortening Skyfall to SF is pretty pointless... It's like, say, shortening Dr. No to DN - why is it needed?

Agreed.

There's no reason to shorten SPECTRE down to something shorter than its seven letters.  The title itself is already an abbreviation anyway.

SP. Please.

Yes it is an acronym but then where are the periods?

Perhaps they could have used bullet holes as periods... but they didn't.

Isn't Dr. an acronym?

I think we are reading too much into it.

SPECTRE has a meaning but most people don't know that.

If it was S.P.E.C.T.R.E people wouldn't get it.

Depends on how much effort we're willing to put into typing after two martinis. B)

SPECTRE is only one letter longer than TMWTGG, so in my opinion there's no need for abbreviation. At least I won't shorten it. :)

It's an unconventional title, so I vote we go with an unconventional abbreviation - TRE.  ;)

Better still, B24 ;)

Or SPCTR.

Yes, it seems the SOP of shortening words is to leave out the vowels. Although SPCTR looks like it should be found on a keyboard.

Show of hands...how many of you have actually referred to The World Is Not Enough as "Twine" in normal conversation with other Bond fans? :P

"Twine" and "Avtak" are the proper names of those films, as far as my internal monologue is concerned.

As for "SPECTRE", I think that the only plausible abbreviation is SP. It's not perfect, but I bet that's the abbreviation that will stick.

In truth, I've never cared much for shortening the titles anyway. I'll do it occasionally on this forum, but just about everywhere else I write them out in their entirety. And I never abbreviate them when speaking. Just sounds silly.

Oops. Duplicate thread.

Can a mod please merge my thread with this pre-existing thread http://debrief.comma...rten-the-title/

Thanks!

This may be a fairly useless reason to start a thread.

But unlike the other films, this one doesn't have an acronym that jumps out.

S ? Single letter acronyms don't go down well. Looks like a typo.

SP ? Slow playing? Soft point (bullet)? Service Provider? South Park?

I like SPEC. (Tho' you can argue if one can type the first four letters, why not also the final three?)

Deference will be given to anybody I've offended or riled in the last year.

Maybe a mod should make this a pinned topic for the time being.

You'd think that Babs and Michael would spare a thought for us here before choosing their titles!

Oh, I bet they do. I can see it now.

During a recent meeting at Eon offices: "...and the best thing about this title: just imagine all those guys in those forum, discussing what acronym they're going to use for something that already is an acronym." :D

I'm fine with SPECTRE. If need really be, I may go with SPEC (saves three whole letters, that's something).

SPEC

That's three for SPEC.

How about just "Bond24"?  :P

Or B24?

Yes, when I suggested "Bond24" I didn't realise it was only one character short of SPECTRE. So hardly worth the abbreviation is it.

I really like SP, isn't that the most obvious?

You don't think its not going to happen because someone might confuse it with SPecial?...

SPECTRE (SPecial Executive for Counter-intelligence, Terrorism, Revenge and Extortion)

I suppose I like the connection.

Well.. I have :). Quite often, actually.

Right now, given the Sony leaks, SPEC seems fitting.
