It is not true, just something that the yellow press whips up to get attention.

By the way, EON did not choose to cast Denise Richards.  She was "suggested" by the studio.

I have no problem with Denise Richards' casting in The World Is Not Enough. Even if the studio forced her upon EON, she at least put forth an effort in her part. Everyone else seemed like they were on autopilot, although that's probably not entirely their fault, and a bit understandable, given how bad the material was that they had to work with.

So far there's been a lot of casting activity over the secondary Bond girl who is the "Scandinavian with a troubled past blah blah blah". What about the lead Bond Girl who is supposed to be British? Any news on that role? Character wise or actress wise? Is she another agent? An innocent bystander? A femme fatale? A hotdog vendor? What?!?

Someone posted something about some chick from that Brit Soaper "Coronation Street" being considered... Please Lord no....

Every bit of "news" so far has only been a rumor, thoughts wrung from some second rate-journalists who try to jump on the Bond express to more attention.

Yeah, it's about that time of year again.  Still waiting on the Gulshan Grover rumors that seem to always pop up during the lead-up to the casting announcements, as well as the "Sean Connery to play the villain" rumor that has been a favorite of the media's the last few times out.

Maybe one of the wonderful news outlets will say that the title is "Beyond the ice".

This originated in the notorious red-top rag The Daily Star a few days ago. It might be worth noting, in all my years of watching Bond news and rumours, they have never been right about anything.

"Joanne is attractive but this time producers want a gritty woman who will be a match for 007."

If that quote attributed to an "insider" (um...) actually is true (which I don´t think it is but could imagine to be), then I don´t see Froggatt having a chance.  She is great on "Downton Abbey" but she is too much of a fairy appearance-wise to be believable against the rugged piece of muscle that is Daniel Craig.

More believable - although this will hopefully not happen - would be the real Mrs. Craig, Rachel Weisz.

If it is true that EON want a gritty UK Bond Girl, then I have to wonder if the female lead on Bond 24 isn't really an Irish policewoman like that fake synopsis on IMDB states. I hope it isn't as fake as we think....
Since we are talking about DOWNTON ABBEY women, how about Michelle Dockery ( Lady Mary.

I tell you who I'd love to have as a Bond girl after seeing her recently in 5 'X-Men' films in less than 2 weeks....but we can't as she's already been one....is Famke Janssen. It'd be over 20 years since we saw her as the ultra sexy Xenia in 'GoldenEye'. (20 years!?)

BUT Maud Adams did it with a 9 year gap so give Famke a new run opposite Craig as she's a wonderfully talented actress and very easy on the eye.

After having seen Michelle Dockery as a gutsy flight attendant in NONSTOP, it would be great to see her get a bigger thriller showcase in Bond 24. Nothing against Joanna Froggart, but I just don't think she's edgy enough to be a match for 007. Plaything maybe, but not a match.... Dockery though would be perfect. And casting Dockery would pull the DOWNTON crowd in, both in the UK and US....

Colleagues, the British red top tabloids gave you such exclusives as Sharon Stone as the villain (and Ewan McGregor playing her villainous son - who also happens to be Bond's long lost sonny boy as well) in TWINE - with ex Spice Girl Mel C doing the theme tune. Also Anthony Hopkins and/or Kevin Spacey signed as the villain in each one of Pierce Brosnan's movies. (OK, there was some substance about Hopkins possibly appearing in TND). The aforementioned Mr Spacey was definitely lined up to appear in Brosnan's fourth Bond film, which as we all know was titled "Beyond The Ice". Oh, and let's not forget the plan to change Bond's gender and cast Catherine Zeta-Jones as "Jane Bond".

Our dear old red tops. 100% staggeringly inaccurate! ;)

(Incidentally, what's this I've read about Daniel Radcliffe wanting to play the villain in Bond 24?)

Saw that bit about Radcliffe too. If that is even remotely true I will laugh my bum off.
Actually there is some truth to at least the Sharon Stone part of the TWINE rumors. The studio wanted Stone for Elektra but Michael Apted resisted, saying she would signal Elektra's villainy way too early. He fought for Sophie Narceau to be cast, and I have to wonder if that's why EON had to take Denise Richards - because the studio wanted at least one well known American actress in the cast....

The sad thing about that is that it still didn't work. I thought it was blatantly obvious pretty early on that Elektra was the villain. I wasn't even the slightest bit surprised when it was actually revealed in the pipeline control room once M arrived on the scene.

Exactly TDalton, I thought Marceau was great but all the hype on Richards as the Bond Girl made it clear who the real heroine was. Also the early press wasn't exactly hiding the fact that Elektra was a baddie. The only real surprise in TWINE is that she was the Main Villain and Renard was her bitch - not the other way around..,

Rumor: Sam Mendes Wants Léa Seydoux for BOND 24

Zero chance of that rumor being true.  Seydoux was in Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol, which pretty much takes her out of the running from the get go.  Second, the role the article suggests she is up for is that of Miranda Frost, a character which the article claims will be brought back to the franchise.  Really?  Of all the characters they could bring back, someone from Die Another Day?

Yes, there are a number of reasons to not take this seriously. However, reading through both articles I get the idea that they may have got confused due to them having received some accurate information, some disinformation and then done some bad research. Quoting Medeamass as back up is laughably inept, Medeamass is a joke website that prints bogus stories deliberately to see if the internet picks them up.

Schmoesknow.com say they got the Miranda Frost name from a casting breakdown document that has been leaked to them by a "trusted source".

The other thing they say is on this document does fit with what we already know - "Lead Female (30-40) Attractive, sophisticated, cool and calm secret agent."

Could it be possible that Eon used Miranda Frost as a cover name when circulating this stuff in case anything got leaked?

We do know that the female lead is a British woman, and there has been whispers that she will be an agent of some kind.

Could Miranda Frost be Eon code for Gala Brand because they don't want that name to get out at this stage?

They brought back Q, Moneypenny, and a male M (and even his classic desk). So, why not Miranda Frost?

Oddly enough, before we knew who was playing who in DAD I remember a news item stating that that film would feature a female British agent named.... Gala Brand! So maybe this is another example of studio disinformation to the press. Months before the film was released a cast member was quoted as saying that the villain played by Benedict Cumberbatch in "Star Trek: Into Darkness" was one Gary Mitchell, a good-gone-bad character from the second pilot episode of the TV series. Of course, we know who the bad guy in that film really was. Again, deliberate throwing off the scent?

If the producers want a female agent character in the new Bond with a link to the Fleming books, two spring to  mind - the aforementioned Gala Brand from Moonraker, and Mary Ann Russell, Bond's Paris contact in the short story "From A View To A Kill". There's no need to recycle the treacherous Ms. Frost.

Meanwhile, the red top/internet rumour mill grinds on! ;)

Miranda Frost was originally named Gala Brand in the script, or at least an early draft. But the powers that be felt that she strayed too far from Fleming's Gala Brand.
