Was wondering about this one. Will they just draft in a new actor to continue from where Craig left off... OR will they reboot the franchise again? I'd go with the latter considering the craze for reboots these days. I'm thinking they'll start a third continuity and the first film of which will simply be called James Bond (like Jack Ryan, Jack Reacher, Alex Cross, etc etc).

I think it'll tell a new origin story beginning with his days as a pilot in the RAF. He's a top pilot and marksman, and the story begins with him getting a phonecall from a mysterious person called "M" who says he might have a job for him. Not saying I'd particularly like that, but it's something I can see happening.

What do you guys think?

I think they will just have another actor take over like the old days. It may not be the same continuity, as they may change the actors for M, Moneypenny, and Q, so it will be a fresh start in that regard. But Bond will be established as the spy we know.

Why not simply 'BOND' as title? Not sure if they will be so eager to go for another reboot and continuity. Apart from Craig the other regulars, M, Q, Moneypenny, are easily able - age wise - to pick up their roles for several further films. I suspect Eon will want to use that capital.

I doubt that they'd go in the direction of another reboot, especially one modeled on the likes of Jack Reacher, Alex Cross, or Jack Ryan.  It would be one thing if Jack Reacher or Alex Cross had been successful films, but neither of them really lit up the box office (Alex Cross was an outright disaster at the box office), so there's really no reason for Bond, itself coming off a billion dollar outing, to copy those films.

When Craig hangs it up, EON will probably put the series on a 4-6 year hiatus while they search for the next Bond and develop the next film, but I seriously doubt it will be a reboot.

Please not another reboot. Just continue with another actor. Hopefully not with a long hiatus. Otherwise they will probably have to re-boot because audiences today have a very short attention-span (James who?).

Indeed. No need for another reboot, given that the Craig reboot was so successful.

Let's just have Rupert Friend take over the mantle in a few years, and be done with it. ;)

Love that title

What I would do if Craig leave let's say after the next one. I would bring back Pierce for a Bond in his 60s chased by a bunch of hitmen in Jamaica where he has retired, spending time in drinking and fucking.

I would have liked BOND for the anniversary. But the story of SKYFALL wasn't particularly Bond-centric, so it's perhaps better they kept that option for something down the line.

'M' would have made a good title. Shame that Fritz Lang fellow stole it.

It is hard to think where they'll go tonally. The Craig films have been such a hit reinventing him, but it's hard to think they could just carry on down the same path with a different lead. So where...?

He would have to affect his voice for the role of Bond - he has quite a high, more childlike voice. I wonder if Benedict Cumberbatch might be considered. With a little more age and Daniel Craig's workout regime he could be brilliant, and wouldn't be much unlike that Fleming commissioned drawing of Bond.

There have been 5 reboots since 1969, so I'm confident Eon knows exactly how to handle it.

Well, I hope when Daniel Craig leaves, EON will continue the more passionate creation and delivery of the James Bond films they found once more with 'Casino Royale' and maintain that thread.

And with the casting of Moore after Connery, Dalton after Moore etc, there will be a difference, but we will be expcted to overlook that as we've always been expected to in the acceptance of the same 007 character with a difference actor, but portraying him in the same world with same threats. I don't think they will "reboot" again once Craig leaves. He may be the "rebooted" era Connery.

I sincerely hope Mike and Babs do not consider Benedict Cumberbatch for the role of Bond.  I know I am in the minority on this, but I think the man is a pretty bad actor.  He's about as subtle as a pantomime dame!

He IS "Connery" of the 21st century.

My guess is that they will go on, business as usual like with every change prior Craig. Ms Harris will probably be replaced but Fiennes, Kinnear and Whishaw will stay.

Well, he overacted in Star Trek Into Darkness to the extent that I'm amazed he didn't pass out.  Way, way over the top, and not in a way which suits the material.

With Daniel being only 45, I'm hoping this is something we won't face another five to ten years. But when it does happen Iagree, Eon seems to have the replacement thing down pretty well.

I worry about when Michael (now age 71) and Barbara (age 53) decide they'd like to retire...who takes over then?

Greg Wilson already is part of the team.  I´m sure he will step up in the next years.

I don't care what they do as long as they replace Craig as I never cared for him as Bond. In my opinion, they should never have left Pierce Brosnan who was an excellent Bond.

Abso-sodding-lutely!

The worst thing the James Bond series could do is to start caring about timelines.  They do not apply to James Bond.  You do not need to explain why Bond is suddenly ten years younger but the supporting characters haven't changed, etc., etc.

It's called movie magic, folks!
