There's an interesting news item on the movie that never was, Dalton's third Bond, on the JBIFC's website, which (sort of) links in to some of the things covered at one point in the new 'Making of Daylights' book. Check it out at: www.007info

In light of the story about the third Dalton script that never was, at www.007.info, does anybody think the material may have possibly fed (indirectly) into 'Tomorrow Never Dies'? I'd be interested in people's views.

Yup - received.

It is pretty much exactly of the same ilk as the OHMSS book, which is to say Huge and bloody Comprehensive.  I have yet to start reading as I am now reading the Retro Cinema Dr No magazine but am so looking forward to this.

Personally, I don't know where he finds the time for these works.

Well done sir.

I've also received it, but Mrs. Tallon wrapped it up and put it under the tree, so I've got to wait another couple of days.

I've got a copy of it, too. It's very good. The storyline for the proposed "Young Bond" film is an interesting read, and there are loads of photos from the production that I'd never seen before, as well. DNS did a really good job with it.

This is an excellent book.  The information on the evolution of the screenplay is fantastic, and there's also an excellent chapter on the casting.  In fact, the book is a goldmine of information, with lots of previously unseen photos.  By any measure, it's a gem!

Got the book last night and spent about fifteen minutes looking through it before my mind started experiencing overload. The 'Young Bond' outline is extremely detailed (It gives an in-depth synopsis of the entire story) and there's even a brief outline of an early draft of LTK that involves Sanchez flying a stealth plane into a famous building... Looking forward to sinking my teeth deeper into the book this weekend.

The book is In stock at the Book Depository ( http://www.bookdepos...n/9780984412624 )  - they ship to The Netherlands.

Also in stock at Barnes and Noble ( http://www.barnesand...n=9780984412624 ) - they ship internationally.

Also in stock at Book Byte ( http://www.bookbyte....2624-098441262x ) - I'm not sure if they ship internationally or not.

Amazon's stocking system is strange and becoming less friendly to small independent publishers - but rest assured the book is in print, and if you order from Amazon you will get it at some point.  Or you can order from other book dealers and get it immediately.

A cracking read - really up to snuff.  Full of detail, superb images.  An utterly enormous body of work.

Well done sir.

A couple of very minor errors that I noted.

The US did not produce any lobby cards.  Both the 11x14s and 16x20s were UK produced.

Also, the Aston Martin grill used for the start of filming advert was in fact a DB3, not a DB5.

Finished reading it last night. Unbelievably in-depth and rich with many great, previously unseen photos. Worth the price for the Bond XV outline alone.

I hope we see similar entries for TSWLM, OP and many others in the future!

Bit bleary eyed this morning...For all the right reasons.

My copy arrived yesterday and was a treat to come home to after a longer day then usual.

So about 8pm I opened it up and planned to give it a glance, within the first few pages, I was reading....and reading...and reading.

How it came to be 2:30am I've no idea, but I *suspect* it was that I was totally hooked.

The same thing happened with OHMSS.

DNS - Good sir...I bow to your talents and the best present you could have given to the worldwide Bond fan community.

It's just damn awesome! Worth "every penny of it".

So...When are you going to get busy with the rest of the films?

*taps foot* *glances at Rolex* *lights a smoke*

WELL!!!!????!!!!

Brilliant piece of work Charles.

Charlie,

So glad you enjoyed it.

Sorry that you lost sleep because of it.

That reminds me of the chap on Amazon who complained that my OHMSS book was just so engrossing that he got sunburn because he was outside and couldn't stop reading.

Perhaps my books should include a health warning on the back.

Expecting my copy tomorrow. I can already feel its effect on those damn flue germs in my system; it's killing them by the billion with every mile it closes in on my home.

Splendid!

They do read through very easily - I must say I too have lost sleep hours because of.  I do hope this tracks through to the wider reading community.

Cheers.

Yep - mine, too. After I complained to the bookseller that it already was supposed to be shipped before christmas I got the shipping news the next day. Coincidence? Hah.

This will be one fantastic reading experience!

I'm going to order my copy after I've finished the juggernaut James Bond Archives, limiting myself to reading one Bond book at a time.

Great reviews here, can't wait to read it and so glad it's focusing on the often over-looked Timothy Dalton.

Still on the fence about ordering this. Are there any new interviews featured in the book? What kind of access did the author have? Is it EON approved?

If you've read the author's book on OHMSS, getting this one should be a no-brainer. As my copy has yet to arrive, I can't tell if there are any new interviews in it, but I guess so. Also, I can't really say what kind of access he had for this one, but I have a clue about what access he had for the OHMSS book, and to put it mildly, he boldly went were barely a Bond fan has gone before. It's not Eon approved, no real need for a book of this kind to be. If you want that, you can as well watch the DVD extras.

If you want an example of how the author works, just look at the current "OHMSS missing scenes" thread.

Just go back in this thread and read who comments in what way about this one (you're long enough on this board to know the folks). These credentials should be reason enough to get it.

Helfenstein could write a book about the making of Spongebob Squarepants and I'd buy it. :D

No offense intended, but it seems in threads like this and the OHMSS one that people want easy answers and I don't understand how they can't gather such information from these discussions and not understand what sets these works apart.

Yeah, the price is intidimating at first. But you have to determine what appeals to you as a fan. I was intimidated by the price of the Archives book but when I saw the Making of TLD at a third of the price, I jumped at it and would probably have paid the archives price for it. As a Bond fan for numerous years, it's hard to find fresh, in-depth information, photos and stories and the two making of books exceed expectations.I have shelves of books on the Bond films and many gather dust, but these two works I will return to again and again.

You won't find these books in your local Barnes and Noble store. And you more than likely won't find them in your local library.

Another note: The Making of TLD came out under the radar. It took many of us fans by surprise. Although a forum member, the author didn't come on here tooting his own horn as other Bond book authors have done. Not that I blame them, the Internet has that kind of power and it's a perfect promotional tool.

But he didn't do that and didn't have the promotional backing of the Taschen people either. It's an uphill battle, but the products speak for themselves. Word of mouth from fans is the best type of promotion in this case.

Taschen is a well-known brand, and I'm happy to invest in their books. This one I'm not so sure of yet, that's why I'm asking about its content and how and where the author researched. I haven't picked up his OHMSS book. I'm also asking on behalf of a friend who wasn't sure if it was a fanboy-type book or something professionally well-researched and well written. There's a lot of misinformation out there on these films.

I don't mean to be rude, I'm thrilled that TLD is being covered, it's one of my favourite Bond films, but I don't want to be disappointed when I buy the book.

Is there a Kindle version coming out soon?
