Please forgive me if this has already been posted but this is exciting publishing news!

If it is on par with Mr. Helfenstein's OHMSS book, we are in for a treat!

I just put this up on my blog. I'm sure it's excellent, but I'm frustrated that it's been out for two months without a peep and is now out of stock on Amazon. I might have grabbed one in time. Hasn't shipped so I don't know yet.

Wow, great find! This is a must-buy. I'm particularly intrigued by the overviews of the early drafts of the film, when it was being treated as a true reboot a la CR.

I very recently found out about this and placed an order immediately. I like the film in question and Charles did a bang up job with his OHMSS book.

!

He's not exactly a self promoter, our Mr Helfenstein.

For those who found it, well done.  Any idea why at the very least, he didn't pop it into one of the 50th Anniversary Books threads?

Cheers.

It seems to be available via Amazon.co.uk - just ordered a copy.

There will be more about this - decidedly more - in the near future.

Brilliant, thanks for posting this! Great to see a bookd dedicated around Dalton's work. Have to look into this for the amazon.co.uk crowd. And Dustin, do you know something we don't...is it wise to buy this now or is there something else coming in the near future...?!

Well, I certainly didn't wait when placing my own order. That said, for those who feel they need more information on the tome before they decide, well there is going to be a peek into the contents of this and from what I know I'm already glad I bought and can't wait for my copy to arrive.

Mine shipped! Can't wait to read this.

BTW, the book was copyrighted Oct 5, but it hasn't been on the market that long. Also, you can get it now on Barnes & Nobel.

Just bought a copy based purely on the back of Charles' excellent OHMSS book. That's two of my absolute favourite Bond movies he's covered now. Can't wait.

Bit gutted, as it's £34 at Amazon.co.uk but out of stock, and awaiting confirmation of when it is due back in stock.

Buying it second hand there on the Marketplace is over £50.

Have to wait and see if/when they get it back in stock - I'd love to check it out, looks brilliant.

I will get my copy today. I was thinking about waiting until Christmas to see if I was going to get an Amazon Gift Certificate but I decided to go ahead and get it.

The Book Despository UK has it. They are great I have ordered a lot from them. I am in the US and they are as good as gold.

Anybody in the US can try barnes and noble website any order over $25 gets free shipping and you can usually find a discount code for 20-30% bringing the value down a little but compared to amazon.

Looks great, but just like the OHMSS book, £35 is too much.

No, that's a little how I feel with the price tag - it's a bit hefty, near Christmas too. I may have to wait until January, but I just don't want to miss it!

For those undecided about this we have now a main page article with an exclusive excerpt: http://commanderbond...-turned-up.html

The price tag: well, you must take into consideration a number of things there. Firstly, this is not an official Eon publication. It's from an independent writer, researched and produced at great cost and with countless hours of hard investigative work entirely without the help of a major publisher or the centre of the Bond world, Eon house. As such it's a labour of love rather than a vehicle to earn a fast quid with yet another Bond book. Nothing could be further from it.

Works such as this do come at a price, but they always will be the rare gems in the sea of publications about 007 James Bond. I dearly treasure my own copy of THE MAKING OF OHMSS, and my only complaint so far is not its price but that we haven't - yet - such an exhaustive book for every single film of the series.

Well stated, I couldn't agree more.

It really depends on what you value in such a book. We're far from the days of the early 1980s when we had 2 books on Bond films - James Bond in the Cinema and The James Bond Films. In 2012, I could fill shelves with books of nothing but pictorial celebrations of familiar shots, official party line tributes and plot synopsis. What I value these days as a hardcore fan is something I can dive into and be immersed with information and pictures I won't find anywhere else. And that's exactly what these Making of books provide.

For the money, these books are a value. Consider:

-These books are nearly 300 pages.

-There's more information and rare photos than you can imagine. Just reading that teaser on the main page whetted my appetite for more.

-You won't likely find copies of this in your local library, and it will be limited on the secondary market -- eBay or Half Price Books, etc. - if you can find them at all.

-These books are written by one of CBn's own. He's not just some distant film scholar with a casual interest in Bond, he's one of us.

-As a writer myself, I have immense respect for the research and obvious labor of love going into them.

Knowing there's a new book out there devoted to one of my favorite films in the series has made my holiday season. Being a Barnes and Noble member, I did get a discount, which allowed me to also get the Skyfall soundtrack also. So you can still get a bargain on it, which was secondary actually, for me.

Now I think who needs that Archives book when there's something like this available.

The Making of OHMSS is a treasurehouse of invaluable information, and I expect nothing less from this one.  I ordered as soon as I heard about it.  It's certain to be a highly valued acquisition.

Sold! Thanks for the reviews and info guys, appreciate it. I don't want to miss out on this, and great to see a book dedicated to one of the under-rated Bonds.

I know that it is expensive, I was considering waiting to see if I would get a gift certificate from Amazon before buying it.

It has 289 pages, it appears to be well researched. Screen treatments, photos galore, and a lot of art work. It is a must buy.

I haven't read anything yet. I've just paged through it and read a few captions. But it's clearly a phenomenal work jam-packed with photos and info. This is the kind of thing Bond fans dream about. Can't wait to really dive in.

Charles said it took him roughly 10 years to complete the OHMSS book.  I wonder when he started the Daylights book then...

Nice build up zen-fella!
