After having seen Quantum Of Solace twice and watching a few of Moore's movies in the past week, I think it's time I posted a new ranking. I'll rank them using headings like the last few posts.

The Best

1. Casino Royale
2. On Her Majesty's Secret Service
3. Quantum Of Solace
4. Thunderball
5. The Living Daylights
6. From Russia With Love
7. The Spy Who Loved Me
8. Dr. No
9. Goldfinger

The Great

10. The World Is Not Enough
11. For Your Eyes Only
12. Licence To Kill
13. Live And Let Die
14. Octopussy

The Good

15. Tomorrow Never Dies
16. Moonraker
17. You Only Live Twice
18. GoldenEye
19. The Man With The Golden Gun

The Bottom

20. A View To A Kill
21. Diamonds Are Forever
22. Die Another Day

I do enjoy the last three films listed, but to me they rank at the bottom.

If I were to rank Never Say Never Again and the Casino Royale spoof, I would probably place the former above A View To A Kill and the latter at the end. To throw the television adaption of Casino Royale in the mix, I'd place it somewhere in the "good" section, as I find it highly enjoyable, and despite name and nationality changes it is a pretty faithful adaption.

Also, I know this ranking seems to go against what I stated in another thread that I now think of Casino Royale and Quantum Of Solace as one film, but as a stand alone film I'd place it where it is. By itself it is not quite as good Casino Royale or On Her Majesty's Secret Service, but Casino Royale and Quantum Of Solace together certainly make a killer pair.

(It's been a long time since I last did my list. This is the first time I've included QOS. I still refuse to count non-Eon Bond films - just my preference)

1 - On her majesty's secret service
2 - The spy who loved me
3 - Thunderball
4 - Casino Royale
5 - From russia with love
6 - Goldfinger
7 - Goldeneye
8 - For your eyes only
9 - Quantum of solace
10 - License to kill
11 - Octopussy
12 - A view to a kill
13 - Moonraker
14 - The living daylights
15 - The world is not enough
16 - You only live twice
17 - Diamonds are forever
18 - Tomorrow never dies
19 - Live and let die
20 - Dr No
21 - The man with the golden gun
22 - Die another day

------------

A decent enough ranking for Quantum then. Two top ten placings for Craig. Good stuff.

4. Dr. No

Yes Eddy. I know the film is sometimes unpopular with Fleming purists, and also with those seeking a serious Bond entry, but I am a huge fan of Moonraker. To me it is Epic, fun, OTT Moviebond and pulls it off for most of the movie, but the space finale and some real OTT overt silliness(Jaws and Dolly) just removes it a couple of notches from No 1. Sometimes my head says it shouldn't be there, but my heart won't let it out of my top 5. :(

Love Casino Royale. :(

The same cannot be said about Quantum of Solace.

One of the things I have noticed here on CBn since I joined is a veering towards the newer movies. Immediately after the release of Die Another Day a number of the most respected 007 fans on here hailed it as the best in the series but now have it in the bottom half of their rankings.

I think that has more to do with invisible cars, tsunami wind-surfing, and Halle Berry not delivering and actually becoming a CGI diver.

I just don't expect Quantum to fall much. On the contrary, I can even see it rising.

There are a lot of people who love the style of editing seen in the car chase and the art gallery fight but who don't post here.

One day, that style of editing will become the norm. Further, most other Bond movies will come across as 'childish' and Quantum will be regarded as a 'mature' departure and will gain strength over time.

I doubt that. I'm sure you and many other Quantum Of Solace lovers will always regard QOS highly. However, much like Die Another Day has dropped in some fans' estimations over time, I think QOS will too.

And I don't ever see "most other Bond movies" coming across as "childish" in the future. They will simply be what they have always been--quality entertainment that the whole family can enjoy. Rather, I find it more likely that QOS will be regarded as pretentious in the future instead of "mature."

And hopefully, QOS's style of editing will NEVER become the norm. When you can't see the spectacular, jaw-dropping stunts to comprehend them because of the shaky camera and super-quick editing then what's the point of seeing the Bond films? The stunts are one of the key main ingredients of the series. Such continued editing will drive fans from the series in droves because the films will become less Bondish and more like the Jason Bourne movies.

But then again, that's MY OPINION.

I'm going to have to agree. It was only after my third viewing that I could intake and understand what transpired in the action scequences.

Please take my word for it. I am not exagerating anything here, I'm being very honest: I could not decipher what Bond was doing in the action scenes the first time I watched QOS. I have friends who very much like action and spy films who could not either.

So, if that style of editing does become the norm, I'm in big trouble.
