Teaser poster. I think Emilia Clarke is doing a fine job as Sarah Conner. She has the Linda Hamilton look down, but she's not trying to convey that same attitude Linda had in the second film. This is Emilia's Sarah, It's an alternate universe (a la Star Trek 2009), things are different. As a whole, the trailer was fine, it served it's purpose, I'm glad the Terminator theme wasn't a heavy influence throughout the entire trailer. I'm also glad there was a giant emphasis on Arnold in the trailer and more focus on Sarah and Kyle. This is going to be more or less Sarah's film, and Arnie is just a long for the ride, and I'm okay with that. More Emilia for me! I did laugh at Arnold jumping out of the helicopter at the end, just because it looked a little hysterical. As a whole, the film looks great, I'm counting down the days until July 1st, 2015!

Hear, hear!

I noticed that too. It was also in the trailer for Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes, as well.

It's a nice teaser. Not focusing on the whole "the end is near" aspect, but going for something different. It strangely works, actually. I saw it on twitter this afternoon and I loved it.

EDIT: Just found the Hi-Res, Billy Bob! As well as a high res poster for Spectre

Nope. Still not sold on 'Terminator: Genisys' after a night sleeping on it.

Linda Hamilton chanelling is all good with me, and I think Emilia Clarke will do fine....

...but when nearly all her dialogue is a horrid nod to previous films "Come with me if you want to live!" (yawn), "Now, soldier!" and "RUN!"...I just felt, I don't know...ripped off.

And alternate timeline, why was everything the same with Kyle going back but now the new T-1000 happens to be in the same place at the same time in the same context as the black officer from 1984?

And it just dissolved into a generic action film for me after that with sub-par effects and horrible body doubles for Arnie. What the hell was all that about him dressed in leather carrying a young Sarah Connor? So he literally is a father figure? Why is 'Termaintor' now going for sentimentality in the story?

With less than 10 seconds of Schwarzenegger featured after all the whoo-haa about him "being back", and a god-awful 'Die Another Day'-esque free-fall CGI Arnie from da choppaaa, I feel this is going to be another disappointment.

Don't get me wrong, the opening minute looked great with the Future War and the foundations that set up the 1984 original, but then this timeline screw all goes over my head. I mean...ugh. I don't know. Not happy myself sadly, but I really wanted to be. I'll try watching it again later.

Could we all just make an unspoken pact to never talk about Terminator Genysis? ;)

That looked like absolute trash. I was pretty excited about it as well, I'vw been following the films production for the past year, but I think I might as well just stop now. I can't get over how much of a disappointment that was. It looks just... awful. What the hell happened?

I've got mixed feelings about Terminator.

I also felt the first half of the trailer was better, then again the 3rd act might not have even been used...

So they go from truck to bus to helicopter?

I guess they will be on the run or going somewhere the whole time.

What will happen with the John Conner's story? Is he done after they send Reese into the past?

Aftering watching the tralier I noticed their might be a 3rd Arnold Terminator. The Terminator who jumps out of the helicopter had grey hair...

The Theory Of Everything - 2014 - 3/5 - Directed by James Marsh - starring Eddie Redmayne and Felicity Jones

"While there is life, there is hope."

Stephen Hawking is a brilliant man, from his achievements to his diagnosis of ALS to surpassing the two year life expectancy window he had to changing the way the world thinks and such. The Theory Of Everything is part romance story and part drama. It focuses primarily on Hawking and his relationship-turned-marriage to Jane Wilde Hawking all while battling ALS. I enjoyed this film for what it was, though I've been left with wanting more out of it.

The acting, particularly from the two leads are really worth watching this for. Felicity Jones was excellent as Hawking's first wife, Jane Wilde, and this is just as much her film as it is Stephen's. She plays her character very well and doesn't over dramatize situations, instead playing them out, how would expect to be played out in life. Of course there's Eddie Redmayne who plays Hawking is brilliant. He does justice to the great man quite well. Redmayne really transforms himself and embodies Stephen Hawking and to see him go from being a normal fellow to being speech impaired and wheelchair bound and not break character or rather lose any sort of steam, is just excellent. The rest of the film is just a mixed bag. It isn't nearly as depressing as I had initially thought it was going to be, which is great. However, while it touches your heart with the soft romance and the triumph of Stephen Hawking, that's really about it. It doesn't do much other than show us scenes from Stephen and Jane's life that you could Google or look up on Wikipedia. It's hard to try and put into words, but I feel like this film could have really tried harder and strives to be something fantastic, but was ultimately bogged down. I feel that while it did a great job of covering Hawking's life over three decades in two hours, it was still too long and really needed better pacing.

Ultimately, The Theory Of Everything will no doubt get lots of praise come awards season, with the only two I can see being deserved are for the performances by Jones and Redmayne. I don't necessarily think this is best picture quality at all or anything else for that matter. I found this film to be too sentimental and basic, than anything artistic or masterful. I'm not saying it's awful, because it's quite good, and the performances by the leads are worth watching, the film as a whole for me, doesn't cover new ground or show a new side to anything we can't read on Wikipedia and find out.

Rating this is a bit tricky, as I loved the performances I want to give this three and a half stars, but the rest of the film was simply "okay" in all other aspects making me want to give it a three star rating. I think I'll settle on three stars for now.

"I think he's the most brilliant man I've ever met. You must be very lucky."

St. Vincent - 2014 - 4/5 - Directed by Theodire Melfi - starring Bill Murray and Melissa McCarthy

"Don't ever become a pencil pusher, kid. They're spineless."

Often cliche and often too sentimental, St. Vincent is a rather heartwarming comedy/drama. It's a straight forward film with Bill Murray in the lead, and It's probably the best role I've seen him in since The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou. Murray plays Vincent MacKenna, a Vietnam vet who's a grumpy, drunken, gambling addicted sleazy old man. When the new neighbors move in next to him, he finds himself in the reluctant role of a babysitter to twelve year old Oliver (Jaeden Lieberher), while his mother, Maggie (Melissa McCarthy) works at the hospital during long shifts. Vincent and Oliver initially find themselves at a sort of odds. They both find each other interesting, yet awkward, but Vincent soon takes him under his wing and the two begin to help each mature.

This isn't a masterpiece of any sort, though I won't lie when I say that it pulled on my heart strings a bit. Murray is absolutely brilliant here. Murray has always been a charismatic and energetic actor, no matter the character, no matter the size. Here, he fully embraces Vincent MacKenna and embodies this broken down, grumpy old man so well, it's impossible to find him as a jerk when he just wins you over so easily. It's Bill Freakin' Murray Guys! Murray has great chemistry with his twelve year old counterpart, Jaeden Lieberher which is rare, because I find that a lot of child actors are rather wooden. Jaeden and Murray are gold together and it's hard not to find them loving together. Their scenes are great, being filled with laughs and soft moments as well. Melissa McCarthy is an actress I'm not fond of, however when she's given an actual character and not someone who spews out obscenities from her mouth, she's great. She shows in St. Vincent that she can actually act and act convincing as well. Naomi Watts plays Daka, the Russian Prostitute and girlfriend of Vincent. Her character isn't given much to do and Watts' accent is often questionable but nonetheless I still found her to be entertaining. For the most part, solid performances all around, but again, the real star is Bill Murray. This is his film and he is just excellent here.

St. Vincent is a rather basic story, told in a basic manner. It has great performances, some great humor throughout, and moments that will potentially bring you to tears. It's a film that has surprised me for what it's worth and is definitely worth a watch for Bill Murray. He's perfect this character!

"Do yourself a favor, get a life, stop living mine. Take my word, it's not working for s*** with me."

The Drop - 2014 - 4.5/5 - Directed by Michael R. Raskom - starring Tom Hardy and James Gandolfini

"No one ever sees you coming, do they, Bob?."

Prior to seeing Michael R. Roskam's film The Drop I had literally seen no marketing for this. No trailer, no tv spot, no poster at the theater, pretty much nothing. It's a film I had been looking forward to for some time simply by reading the premise, seeing the main principle actors and the screenwriter involved. I knew it was a crime film by Dennis Lehane and that was that. I was hoping to be taken by surprise, and I was. The Drop turned out to be absolutely incredible, one of the finest crime films of the year and of the last five years.

Set in Brooklyn, New York, a bar called "Cousin Marv's" ran by Marv (James Gandolfini) operated as a "drop" a place where criminals, specifically the Chechen mafia go to launder their money. Bob Saginowski (Tom Hardy) is the bartender and one night the bar is robbed of over five grand. Bob lets slip a clue to a Detective, Torres (John Ortiz), about the potential robber which angers Marv as he doesn't want the police scoping the bar out and looking into it as a "drop" bar. Meanwhile, Bob finds a beaten pit bull and takes it in, all while slowly getting close to a woman named Nadia (Noomi Rapace).

Screenwriter Dennis Lehane is most known for his novels, several have been turned into films. Mystic River (Directed by Clint Eastwood), Shutter Island (Directed by Martin Scorsese), and Gone Baby Gone & Live By Night (Directed by Ben Affleck). The Drop is based on Lehane's short story "Animal Rescue", and the script for this film is by far one of the best aspects about the film. Lehane develops a crime story that relies on atmosphere and tone instead of tired cliches we've seen in countless crime films. There's moments where The Drop might remind of other films, specifically in the narrative structure, but it's plotted out very well. It's not rushed, it's not packed with underdeveloped characters. It's a great script. The dialogue is basic, yet surprising well. The acting is absolutely wonderful. Tom Hardy gives one hell of a performance, probably his best since Warrior. He plays Bob Saginowski so brilliantly from his mannerisms, to his Brooklyn accent, everything, he sucks you into the film and his character so quick, you forget it's the guy who played Bane you're watching. His acting is that good. James Gandolfini was a great actor, all you had to do was watch The Sopranos to know that. Hell anything he was in, was great. In what would turn out to be his last role, Gandolfini is perfect for Marv. Gandolfini and Hardy are great together! Another great performance is by Noomi Rapace, and though she doesn't have much time in the film, she still turns in a great performance as Nadia.

I can't finish this review without talking about how the technical side of The Drop. Marco Beltrami's music score is highly effective in it's sparring use and really adds layers to each scene. Though the film is only an hour and forty minutes, it isn't rushed and is paced excellently. It keeps moving and has you invested in the film and these characters and this story. That's all in part because of the editing, which is great. The direction by Michael R. Roskam is top-notch, especially during the film's climax. It's a climax that some could view as dull and uneventful, but thanks to Lehane's clever writing and Roskam's wonderful directing, it works quite well, in fact more than well. It's fucking tense. Especially Hardy's acting during the climax with the antagonist, Deeds (Matthias Schoenaerts) which was superb.

The Drop is a highly underrated film. Why do I say that? I say that because the only place I've heard good things about is on Letterboxd and the great reviews I've read. Literally heard and/or seen nothing about this film on tv or on the internet. It's like Fox didn't give a damn about this film, considering how incredible it is. This is a powerhouse of a film, and I definitely recommend this to everyone.

"Are you doing Something that maybe we can't clean up this time?"

Tusk - 2014 - 4/5 - Directed by Kevin Smith - starring Michael Parks and Justin Long

"Nature can be very red in tooth and nail."

If I was to tell you that Kevin Smith had finally made a film that was very good and darkly twisted and humorous, but still great, you'd probably tell me to "go open the video store, Randall" (Bad Clerks reference, I know). Kevin Smith's previous film Red State was what he called his first horror film, except it was the furthest thing from being a horror film. While it had some interesting ideas floating around, it was dud. Tusk is Smith's actual horror film, while still retaining some of his well known comedic tropes, it completely surprised me at being very well done.

Two friends, Wallace and Teddy (Justin Long and Hayley Joel Osment, respectively) host a popular podcast called "The Not-See Party" where the spend time finding viral videos, laughing at them and humiliating the uploader. Wallace announces that he's flying out to Canada to interview one of the viral video uploaders known as "Kill Bill Kid". When he arrives at the house of "Kill Bill Kid" it's too late as the kid has comitted suicide. Having wasted money on a plane ticket for nothing, he spots a handbill in a bar of someone offering their services of a room and interesting stories -- free. Wallace seeks this man out, Howard Howe (Michael Parks). Parks tells him stories of his time on sea and meeting Ernest Hemingway and how he was rescued by a walrus. Wallace passes out at dinner and wakes up the next time in a wheelchair, bound. He can't feel his legs, and when he removes the blanket he sees that his left leg has been amputated. Howard tells him it was because of a brown recluse spider bite. Later throughout the day, Howard becomes increasingly more sinister and his true intentions come out. All while Teddy and Wallace's girlfriend, Ally (Genesis Rodriguez) head to Canada looking for him with the help of a man named Guy Lapointe (Johnny Depp) who is also looking for Howard Howe.

Tusk really is a bizarre film, and if you aren't a fan of Smith's style, or rather his sense of humor, you may find this easier to take in, or you might find it harder. I like Smith and there's only really two films by him I genuinely don't like. Moving away from doing straight-up comedies, he turns his attention to the horror genre. Tusk has everything going for it from the get go. When I say it's bizarre, I mean it. It has this great atmosphere that sets in once we meet Michael Parks, and keeps going. It also manages to be funny in scenes too, especially during moments where it's probably not supposed to be, as well as Johnny Depp's scenes. What really makes it bizarre is Justin Long getting sewn into an actual fucking walrus-like suit made of human skin. It's creepy as F***, but it's funny as hell. Smith literally channels his inner Cronenberg, though he is far from being a body horror master like Cronenberg.

What I like most is probably the fate and overall character arc for Wallace. He's a guy who essentially makes a killing making fun of other peoples viral videos. Point and laughing, calling them names, he's just another internet tough guy behind a keyboard, but he happens to be pretty well off. He goes searching in the wrong places for something he can continue laughing at, and in the end, ends up getting laughed at. How? by going full walrus. He becomes the laughing stock. For Howe, it's more than just being a serial killer and psychopath, it's being completely gone. Nothing there. After being abused physically and sexually when he was young, he pretty much developed this utter hatred for humanity. What was done to him, he does ten fold to others.

Tusk is all put together rather well, with some nice shots, specifically in the mansion of Howard Howe, and some nice editing from Smith himself. The makeup and effects are a little iffy, but it's not too bad. If there's a problem with the film it's probably that the pacing in areas is a little off and can be tighter. Another one is more like a gripe, but I feel that the overall tonal shifts in scenes, while not bad, it does get irritating when it's in horror film phase, and jumps straight into comedy phase. While this does indeed add to the bizarre factor, it would've been better if it was so jarring.

As a whole, Tusk is a rather strange film, but it's also a highly entertaining film, and one by Kevin Smith. Also worth noting that this is the first film all year to make me shout "what the f***" at my screen at a pivotal moment in the year. (It's the scene where Justin Long goes full walrus too, by the way.)

"Are you really mourning your humanity? I don't understand, who in the hell would want to be human?"

Predestination - 2014 - 4/5 - Directed by The Spierig Brothers - starring Ethan Hawke and Sarah Snook

"If there's one thing this job has taught it's that truth is stranger than fiction, and I've heard some incredible s***, nothing astonishes me anymore."

Well then, Predestination is a rather odd, yet intriguing film. I liked the Spierig Brothers' previous film Daybreakers and I think Ethan Hawke is a fine actor. I wasn't really sure what to expect after seeing some pretty divisive critic and user reviews for this, but nonetheless, still went forward with watching it. Ethan Hawke plays a temporal agent for The Temporal Bureau, which send agents through time to prevent major crimes. Only one criminal, known as "The Fizzle Bomber" has slipped past them. Hawke goes through time in attempts to stop him, but meets a fellow man here's his story to which Hawke says he can help him. I really don't want to delve too much into the plot, because even the littlest thing is a potential spoiler.

This isn't like most science fiction blockbusters which rely heavily on special effects of the sorts, but rather this science fiction film is more keen on focusing on the characters and the story. It's a film I would say you would have to give your complete undivided attention to really get the full effect of it. Once the last thirty minutes or so set in, it might seem a bit too confusing, but the ending really wraps everything up nicely for you to intake everything in the film. Having said this, I would recommend a second viewing just for the sake of the story. Again it's not confusing, but with a second viewing you would know what is coming, and there for could look at the little clues laid out in the film and then begin piecing it together. Predestination is a very engaging film that features literally no action, which is a great thing. The story is engrossing and the acting by Ethan Hawke and Sarah Snook is great. It's not marvelous technically speaking, but what really shines is indeed the plot and the acting. It fits in together perfectly. It's perfectly paced over the duration of ninety-seven minutes and never gets boring. It's very ambitious to say the least.

There isn't much to say without giving away spoilers, but it's highly recommended to check out The Spierig Brothers' Predestination, a very good science fiction film that is told in an excellent manner.

Terminator looks alright, but i just feel like some of these series have kind of had their day. Endless remakes and and reboots of Terminator aren't really my thing.

But that's just me.

For got to mention this, But Roberto Orci, known for writing scripts for the last two Star Trek films, The Amazing Spider-Man films, and several more, was set to direct the third Star Trek film due for release in 2016 (timed with the 50th anniversary of the franchise). However, Orci recently dropped out yesterday due to unknown reasons. Edgar Wright is rumored to be his replacement.

Not a good set-back for Paramount, if Wright joins on board, they'll likely shoe-horn him into production quickly so they can get filming underway immediately if they hope to make that summer 2016 release date.

Yeah I heard about that too. I mean I heard that he dropped out because he felt like this was going to be too much for him since he hasn't directed anything before.

Didn't Robert Orci drop out of the Power Rangers reboot specifically so he could direct STAR TREK 3?

I Believe that was the case. It's all very weird right now at Paramount. Who knows what will happen.

I read somewhere that the studio didn't like the script and even sent the design people home packing.  That being said, Edgar Wright did direct the Klingon scene from Star Trek Into Darkness so he has some familiarity with it.

The new KINGSMAN trailet got my attention, the action looks entertaining.

Can't say the same of the new MAD MAX trailer though.

HOT TUB TIME MACHINE 2 I'll most definitely see even though its kind of a weird sequel somewhat.

I was a little...meh...with 'Mad Max Fury Road': very little action of Max himself! Just, what looked like, the same sort of action seen in the teaser and little else.

Still looks fun, but maybe not going to very...satisfying? I don't know. Hope I'm wrong!

Me too.  After Star Wars, Jurassic World, even Terminator Genysis, this trailer failed to pique my interest.
