1 839 220 tickets sold for SKYFALL in France in 5 days...
The third best opening 2012 in France for a movie.

What are the top two best openings in France?

The two best openings in France for 2012 are AVENGERS (number one) and LA VERITE SI JE MENS 3 (a french comedy).

The estimate for Tuesday is £4m, only slightly down on Monday. This is exceptionally good for Tuesday, as many cinemas have reduced ticket prices, so it shows another day of great attendance. It may be another record, some think so, but I haven't seen evidence yet.

Cinemas are expecting an even bigger turn out today, it’s Orange Wednesday, which means 2 for 1 if you have that sort of mobile.

This puts the UK take at over £28m. Even with half revenue (thanks to 2 for 1) that figure should pass £30m by the end of today.

Where can you find these daily UK figures?

Well both my Vue and Odeon cinemas last night were 90% sold out, or totally sold out from 7pm onwards - Orange Wednesday always does good buisness, but still packed for 'Skyfall'.

Dead chuffed. :)

Skyfall £33m ($53.2m) in 6 days!!

Orange Wednesday had little impact (with 2 for 1 tickets) as the turn out was huge for mid week. The estimate is £4.3m to even £4.5m.
To show just how good this is, the previous record for Wednesday was HPDH2 with £3.6m.

UK Box Office: Skyfall at £37m ($60m) in 7 days.

I'm trying to find out if this is a better opening week than HPDH2, Skyfall could have overtaken it with a string of record breaking weekdays.

No. He means, that Harry Potter 7.2 was in 3D, which means, that people paid more for the tickets than for Skyfall.
With 3D it's easier to get high box office numbers. So it's even more impressive that Skyfall made more than Potter without haben expensive 3D prices.

Serious question from someone very poorly acquainted with all-things-cinema: can't we compare the total *number* of tickets sold, instead of the totall gross? Aren't those figures available? It seems it would make more sense.

It would, I agree. The closest we have is adjusted gross figures.

That's the way we count in France : the success of movies are calculated with the total number of tickets sold, which avoids us the problem of adjusting figures.
As an example, here's the Bond movies classified by the number of tickets sold in France :

GOLDFINGER - 6 675 099
THUNDERBALL - 5 734 842
FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE - 5 623 391
DOCTOR NO - 4 772 574
YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE - 4 489 249
DIE ANOTHER DAY - 4 010 574
QUANTUM OF SOLACE - 3 722 798
THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH - 3 599 609
THE SPY WHO LOVED ME - 3 500 993
GOLDENEYE - 3 493 610
TOMORROW NEVER DIES - 3 435 210
CASINO ROYALE - 3 182 862
FOR YOUR EYES ONLY - 3 181 840
MOONRAKER - 3 171 274
LIVE AND LET DIE - 3 053 913
OCTOPUSSY - 2 944 481
THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN - 2 873 898
NEVER SAY NEVER AGAIN - 2 582054
DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER - 2 493 739
AVIEW TO A KILL - 2 423 306
LICENCE TO KILL - 2 110 402
THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS - 1 978 347
ON HER MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE - 1 958 172

Here's the new figures :

GOLDFINGER - 6 675 099
THUNDERBALL - 5 734 842
FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE - 5 623 391
DOCTOR NO - 4 772 574
YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE - 4 489 249
DIE ANOTHER DAY - 4 010 574
QUANTUM OF SOLACE - 3 722 798
SKYFALL - 3 600 000
THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH - 3 599 609
THE SPY WHO LOVED ME - 3 500 993
GOLDENEYE - 3 493 610
TOMORROW NEVER DIES - 3 435 210
CASINO ROYALE - 3 182 862
FOR YOUR EYES ONLY - 3 181 840
MOONRAKER - 3 171 274
LIVE AND LET DIE - 3 053 913
OCTOPUSSY - 2 944 481
THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN - 2 873 898

DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER - 2 493 739
A VIEW TO A KILL - 2 423 306
LICENCE TO KILL - 2 110 402
THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS - 1 978 347
ON HER MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE - 1 958 172
The difference is that SKYFALL is in theatres only since 14 days...

Do you mean those were the totals for those films at the UK box office during their entire run?

Anyway; this is what the 007 facebook has to say:

SKYFALL continues to break UK box office records taking a stunning three day figure of £16.1 million at the weekend and reaching £53.4 million after just 10 days of release. The 23rd Bond has also become the fastest film ever to reach £50 million at the UK box office and achieved the biggest second weekend total in UK cinema history.

3. FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE - 5 623 391
4. DOCTOR NO - 4 772 574

23. THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS - 1 978 347
24. ON HER MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE - 1 958 172
As you can see, Craig comes very close to Connery...
And obviously, SKYFALL will be, at least, in the Top 5, may be in the Top 3.
Glad to see that!

Remember that juggernaut epic film this year, 'The Dark Knight Rises'? Well 'Skyfall' has broken the bat!!

£57m in just 12 days!

http://www.metro.co....st-film-of-2012

The third Bond film to star Daniel Craig has also become the biggest James Bond film of all time, beating the £55.6million achieved by Craig’s first foray into the franchise, 2006’s Casino Royale.

It has also surpassed superhero flick The Dark Knight Rises, which was released this summer and starred Christian Bale, Anne Hathaway and Michael Caine.

Responding to the record-breaking news, Skyfall producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli said: ‘We are thrilled and proud to reach this box office landmark in record time and are delighted that UK audiences continue to enjoy Skyfall.’

MGM’s Chief Executive Officer and Chairman Gary Barber added: ‘We could not be more proud of this amazing achievement. Kudos again to all involved with this film, which clearly delivers on every level.’
