Skyfall Box Office UK

I'm afraid it prevents Skyfall from beating DAD at the box-office, even if I'm sure it'll be a huge success.
It's weird to see that french people prefer Brosnan to Craig (for the moment) and that the for Brosnan's Bond did it better than CR...
But as you can see, things are changing : QOS was a greater success than CR and SKYFALL will beat them all, according to me.

Well, not quite in France, the reviews of general audience on the Internet are mixed : Generally good, but not unanimous (except about Craig himself).
Who on earth was expecting 'unanimous' praise?

Let´s never forget: people voicing their opinions on the internet are generally not be trusted. Lots of teenagers finding an outlet for their rage and the drive to stand out.
And they are not at all representative of the mass audience´s reaction towards anything. Remember "Snakes on a plane"?

What? I genuinely have not come across a review, both from critics & the general public, that's below 3 &1/2/5 yet - how exactly is that mixed? Most reviews in fact have been glowing!
I've seen some "3 / 5" reviews by members of this very forum, acually.

Is that a fact? Ticket prices haven't been raised in my area in something like 7 years (when, in fact, they went down when new owners took over). If you count 3D then yes they have, but even at that, on Tuesdays (which is the student night) I can see a 3D movie for $7. Perhaps in your area that is how things have gone, but surely you can't claim that everywhere has followed suit.Nothing costs the same in 2012 as it did in 2008 unless it's real estate property that fluctuates or a stock investment that tanked. Ticket prices in the USA have risen every 6 months, contrary to the slowing world's economy. It's one sector here that does not understand recessions.

Great first showing! Seeing as how the latest Mission: Impossible film made nearly $700 million overall, I think Skyfall will fare just fine. Audiences seem to be enjoying a good action/adventure film right now. Add the hype plus the fact that it's a Bond film and we're set. I won't be surprised if Skyfall tops Casino Royale big time.
With Olympics Bond hype, bolstered critical acclaim, around the clock screenings, and a massive singer doing the title song, Bond 23 is only estimated to do $32 million USD at the UK box office? QOS did $24 million USD in the UK and it was a poorly received film. Do the math. Inflation of tickets over 4 years plus the additional IMAX fees and all you get opening weekend for a definite front loaded film is an additional $7-8 million opening? I would have expected a $50 million opening in the UK under such publicity and acclaim. There will be no doubt that both Twilight and The Hobbit will reduce Bond 23's energy to nil once they are released.
Party pooper. But your argument lost any credibility with the "QOS was a poorly received film"-lie.
Also with the "inflation of tickets" nonsense. In 2008 it cost me $9.50 to see a movie. In 2012, it costs me $9.50 to see a movie. $5 on Tuesdays, in fact.
And let´s not forget: if someone wants to badmouth SKYFALL´s opening by referring to inflation he should also take into account the change in audience behaviour, the effect of a growing multimedia competition and so on.
It is impossible to correctly state whether SKYFALL is doing as well as THUNDERBALL - but one can absolutely count the tickets sold. And that´s for sure: SKYFALL is a B.O. juggernaut.

Did 'Skyfall' beat openings for 'Avengers Assemble' and 'The Dark Knight Rises' here in the UK then...?
Yes. By quite a bit.

The attendance part got me confused when reading the article. Was is the biggest attendance for any movie, or just a Sony movie - the article wasn't clear.
Any film.
The figures are quite incredible:-
Avengers Assemble $25.6m
DKR $22.4m
SKYFALL $32.4m

Once again I have to congratulate BB and MGW for having the courage to re-boot Bond and go down this difficult and dangerous route, only to succeed beyond anyone´s wildest dreams.
Which other producer team has dared to do this?

1 231 914 tickets sold for SKYFALL in France in only 3 days! That's the way we count in France : the success of movies are calculated with the total number of tickets sold, which avoids us the problem of adjusting figures.
It would, I agree. The closest we have is adjusted gross figures.
Serious question from someone very poorly acquainted with all-things-cinema: can't we compare the total *number* of tickets sold, instead of the totall gross? Aren't those figures available? It seems it would make more sense.
As an example, here's the Bond movies classified by the number of tickets sold in France :
GOLDFINGER - 6 675 099
THUNDERBALL - 5 734 842
FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE - 5 623 391
DOCTOR NO - 4 772 574
YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE - 4 489 249
DIE ANOTHER DAY - 4 010 574
QUANTUM OF SOLACE - 3 722 798
THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH - 3 599 609
THE SPY WHO LOVED ME - 3 500 993
GOLDENEYE - 3 493 610
TOMORROW NEVER DIES - 3 435 210
CASINO ROYALE - 3 182 862
FOR YOUR EYES ONLY - 3 181 840
MOONRAKER - 3 171 274
LIVE AND LET DIE - 3 053 913
OCTOPUSSY - 2 944 481
THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN - 2 873 898
NEVER SAY NEVER AGAIN - 2 582054
DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER - 2 493 739
AVIEW TO A KILL - 2 423 306
LICENCE TO KILL - 2 110 402
THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS - 1 978 347
ON HER MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE - 1 958 172
That's very impressive, especially if you compare those figures to the best entry of the year (till now...) in France, LA VERITE SI JE MENS 3, movie for which 1 660 445 tickets have been sold in 5 days...

50 years and he's still outdoing the likes of comic book lore and big action ensembles. VERY proud to be a 007 fan right now and thank Christ that EON, as you say SAF, had the courage to do this against those who gave negative predictions that it wouldn't work.
We've got our Fleming Bond back!

SKYFALL £4.3m
HPDH2 £3.2m
TDKR £2.3m
HPDH1 £1.7m
QoS £1.8m
Most blockbusters would be very happy with that for opening day, but Monday!!!

Wow, it destroyed Quantum of Solace's Monday figure! Very impressive. Can't wait to see how things go in North America. This is getting crazy. Skyfall set an extraordinary record for Monday ticket sales!

Cinemas are expecting an even bigger turn out today, it’s Orange Wednesday, which means 2 for 1 if you have that sort of mobile.
This puts the UK take at over £28m. Even with half revenue (thanks to 2 for 1) that figure should pass £30m by the end of today.

I am very happy for SKYFALL! It really deserves the attention. A clear sign for EON and SONY to continue that way.
And a clear sign, that people like Sam Mendes' Style.
He surely knows how to entertain an audience.

These days, former arthouse directors struggle to get their pet projects financed, so they turn to genre fiction. For some, the results are spectacular. And it will reenergize Mendes´ career. Good thing!
