So, saw the 'film' last night at an IMAX Charity Premiere in downtown Toronto (courtesy of Sony and EON Productions)...

Dare I ask, why is SKYFALL a 'film', and not just a film?

So this film is a 12A, does this mean I can take my six year old son?


Do you think he would have problems understanding the film? I still haven't seen it yet myself, so not sure what to do.

children in my audience were either talking all through the film bc they were bored or taken out of the room by the parents. Imo its not an exciting movie for children/ They would be more interested in seeing a Transformers-type of movie. But Skyfall is a drama

I'd only recommend kids who love the James Bond films. I had an annoying bunch talking throughout mine, too. Then getting up and leaving, and coming back. So annoying. Skyfall is aimed at Bond fans, and people who love drama/action more so than the casual viewer. Kids though. It's a tough one. If I was still my 6 year old self I'd love to go. Not that it helps. :')

...and I must say that it's not "The Best James Bond Film Everrrrrr..."!

I'm actually going to see the 'film' again tonite for another preview screening (movie actually opens in North America Nov 8 in IMAX and Nov 9 everywhere else) and, to be honest, i'm looking forward to it as there's some jolly good stuff in it.

I'd say 85 percent of the 'film' is pure James Bond Gold...but there are some moments - in the final act - that people used to ConneryBond would just find absolute drivel.

But, then again, we're in a Bold New World Of 007 Film Making...so we simply must utilize all the 'acting chops' of the 'Award-Winning ensemble cast' available, etcetera.

Dignitas screening? Nearly shelled out for that. Envied all of you watching it last night, terribly.

Well, "kids" (or the average kid) should not be taken to see Skyfall.

The average kid is too immature to appreciate dialogue, drama, etc. Plus there's a first-time-ever F-bomb in the movie and instances of sexuality that the average 6 year old doesn't normally see during saturday morning tv while wiping their runny nose across their forearm.

I want to take my 23 month old to witness the might of 'Skyfall'...but think I'll leave it and let him watch the Bond films as they come on TV now and then just to get those images in his head that hopefully will stick with him to become a super-fan as he gets older, and hopefully take him to Bond...26 or 27!

He already is fascinated by the gunbarrel sequence - those white dots, the moving camera with the walking man and the blood dripping down. Entrancing to the young, and old, at heart still!

Well done! Based in Waterloo myself, catching the midnight screening all of a block from my house. Any notable Bond alumni at the DIgnitas event? From what I'd read, none were expected to attend. More the Egoyans and the Polleys, predominantly Canadian type of crowd.

I went last night. I'm slightly worried about breaking the forum rules though so I'll keep my 'review' relatively brief.

The first segment is a mixed bag. For all the hype about the pre-title sequence, I thought it was middle-of-the-road. What made it worse is that it had been partially spoiled for me because of things I'd read in reviews and seen in TV spots. This is my 7th Bond film at the cinema, and I don't remember this phenomenon ever happening to me before. I hope it's a one-off. IMO the pre-title sequence should be sacred; it should be kept out of the teasers and trailers. Anyway..

The actual title sequence itself is top notch, the best in the entire series. It's the first time I've ever watched one and found myself looking forward to seeing it again on DVD. Having a great song to back it up really helps too. Brilliant stuff.

As for the film proper, again, excellent. I concur slightly with Loomis about the third act, but only 'slightly'. I still enjoyed most of the ending. It maybe needed some polishing on one or two bits, but you can't get everything right in a 140 minute movie. They did well to get as much right as they have.

The film as a whole is surprisingly low key. It felt to me like the quietest, smallest scale Bond film since Dr No (seriously!). For the first time since the original film, scenes are played out with hardly any background noise, if any! It's a quiet, eerie film. It really takes its time to tell the story. It doesn't do the usual thing of rushing from set piece to set piece just to please those of a short attention span. What action we do get is really good though. There's nothing 'weak' in there. And it all fits the plot - there's nothing superfluous for e.g the plane sequence in QOS.

There's some good humour in the film, and I'm happy to say it's not 100% sex themed like it was getting a few films ago. Craig seems to be making much more of an effort with the funny bits in this one.

Really can't say much more. It's a great film. Not top five in the canon for me, but certainly a top ten effort. Better than QOS for sure (although I do like QOS). Not sure if it beats Casino. It's a tight one.

First of all, I saw the 'film' ( hehe ) again last night at another preview screening. And I must say i'm warming to it more and more. I said that the first 85 percent of it is 'Pure James Bond Gold' in my first post in this thread. But the rest of it is very good movie-making too!

Once you cast aside any preconceived notions about what a James Bond big screen adventure ought to be - and that the 00 Section "ought" to be operating outside of the UK, as per MI6's legislated mandate - then you should be fine, allowing yourself to have a jolly good time and a firmly immersive cinematic James Bond experience.

Secondly, Judo my friend, i'm a "he", not a "she"!

Lastly, I put the word "film" in ' ' to be ironic in a double entendre' silly-bugger way because:

1) It's shot digitally, not on film; and

2) I'm just playfully toying with the word as it usually applies to art-house cinema, as opposed to action/adventure blockbusters.

When you have people like Mendes, Dench, Finney and Bardem involved, you usually get art house-type cinema. And, I suspect, EON is trying to use the talent to up the ante from where the Brosnan Bonds were.

Certainly nothing wrong with Broccoli and Wilson trying to push the envelope. All credit to them!

Can't wait to see the 'film' again tonight in IMAX (again). 3rd viewing in three days! Aha ha!

Not completely what I was expecting, but I agree with Matt quite diverse and layered. I believe I will enjoy it even more upon additional viewings, and that will be no small feat.

The first time seeing a new Bond film is always overwhelming for me, there's just so much I want to soak in and so little time. Speaking of time, the film flew by for me not seeming anywhere near the length it really is.

Well, the ending of SKYFALL delivers serious satisfaction, but it's not a direct adrenaline shot in the way that CASINO ROYALE's climactic "Bond, James Bond" is. I don't know that another final scene in all of Bond could deliver the same amount of fanboy joy that CASINO ROYALE's last moments do.

That I wanted to see SKYFALL again and as soon as possible.

I never for a second thought SKYFALL's final word could top CR in terms of delivering raw fanboy excitement. As Harm's said, how could it or anything? I do wonder if people feel a similar emotional charge from the end of SKYFALL that made me want to (in addition to seeing CR again right away) tear open my DR NO DVD and celebrate - yes, that's the word - unapologetically celebrate the entire series straight through to DAD. Meaning, I like a lot of the Bond endings. Bond beats the bad guy, gets the girl, it's all satisfying and contained. (OHMSS excluded.) But until CR, no Bond ending created such a connection for me with the other films.
