Colin Salmon got lots of cheers from the crowd, was pleased about that.

That'll be because of Strictly. (The original British version of the American Dancing with the Stars)

Was that Eve Green signing autographs? She looks great. This is awesome didn't realize the red carpet would be aired on the mean site.

Bear Grylls' trousers are pretty spectacular, perhaps not strictly within the dress code though.

What a Night!! As well as seeing the movie (absolutely brilliant, by the way!), I got autographs from Daniel, Ralph, Naomi, Bernice, Sam Mendes, Thomas Newman, Chris Corbould, Vic Armstrong, Monty Norman, Don Black, Fiona Fullerton, Colin Salmon and Samantha Bond.

Why do the contestants from the X-Factor always get an invite? cheapens the premier for me.

What's next? the "actors" from 'The only way is Essex'.

I agree Shaun, that sickens me - that'll be all over their X Factor show on Saturday and a bunch of k**bs going "OOOh I was so close to James Bond it was mental! I thought he was Sean Conney or something!" - winds me right up they just wander along because of the show they are in.

We fans have to suffer and miss out but those reality show stars just get whisked along.

*Rant over!*

Looked to be a VERY glamorous night, glad everyone who got to go had a blast, and good work on the autographs sagart! :)

It's all advertising. X Factor gets big viewing figures. Think of the advertising gained by the clips of the contestants walking down the red carpet, 007 shown in giant letters, Skyfall plastered all over.

I'm guessing Strictly Come Dancing will have this too, with Colin Salmon. They already hype up his Bond involvement, I'm sure they'll show him walking down the red carpet.

Incredible night.

Must admit, the red carpet and the rest was all such a blur of lights, screaming and society girls dressing up that I didn't see any stars on the walk in, except those being interviewed by Walliams.

Of course they all came on stage for a presentation but no hands were shaken.

However, we did pop into a wonderful little bistro bar west of the Royal Albert Hall and ended up speaking to the / a location manager who talked about some of the processes in finding the locations, and particularly what went into the sourcing of the Skyfall lodge that, as we know, went through various locations before settling on Hankley Common. I think I actually preferred that rather than walking alongside some young chap with had ridiculously high hair who everyone was screaming at for some reason.

It was, to be sure though, a mch better red carpet experience than how it was set up for Die Another Day whereby everyone was pushed through the north entrance. Very very consumate affair.

btw, for anyone who has the Premiere brochure, what film is the shot of Dalton taken from in the last page of 50th Anniversay Bond images?

Dalton looking into a mirror.

Is this from one of his screen tests, or another film entirely?

Always very difficult to tell on a first viewing for me as I find I take too much baggage into the film with me.

Two years of tracking with interest, how the film has gone from inception to realisation means that I am looking for, and maybe missing, things that may end up in not being in the film, (there is one such glaring cutting room floor edit that I was looking forward to) plus the fact that if attending a Premiere, the sheer enormity of the event is distracting to say the least. I was also Not blessed with a perfect seat; there was a bloody great hand rail in front of me that basically sat in the middle of the screen, plus bladders of bypassing young and old needed frequent emptying.

For my part, I need to let the film settle into being a part of the canon before I can react to it objectively. I haven't been sure of first viewings of every film since LTK, and only much later had the reaction changed to one of warmth - except TWINE, which is still the black sheep of an otherwise good family.

Suffice to say, and following the edict that no spoilers should be mentioned, that it does have a strong narrative, Bardem is superb, wasn't sure of all the talk of radios in tubes, Kleinman is still a major graphics force to be reckoned with, wasn't impacted by the music at all either positively or negatively, (I am always amazed by how much the music can make a Bond film 'feel' like a Bond film), and there were some genuine laugh out loud moments. It doesn't have the professional (in the sense of spy craft) polish of the Bourne films, it did Not feel like 2hrs 20. And, unless this was a moment when a septuageniarian wanted to get past in search of a potty, I would have liked to have seen how Silva gets out of the glass cage.

So, like all first viewings related above, and as per Clarkson's thought, this too is not yet a Bond film for me and I wonder if the music has had something to do with that - at this moment in time.

As you can see Loomers, muddled thoughts at present.

Cheers, Simon.

Yep, I also find that the first viewing doesn't always produce a "definitive" verdict (although it does sometimes). For example, I was underwhelmed by TOMORROW NEVER DIES and even CASINO ROYALE upon first viewing (and I was at the premiere of CASINO ROYALE - perhaps the sense of occasion was such that the film itself seemed a mere sideshow), although after a while I came to like both films a lot (especially CASINO ROYALE, which I consider a masterpiece).

On the other hand, I loved QUANTUM OF SOLACE the first time I saw it but have come to view it as deeply mediocre fare at best.

Still, I was interested in your initial SKYFALL thoughts. Whether they'll change is really another matter.

I'll be seeing SKYFALL next Wednesday. It's gonna be a long week.

I appreciate the honestly reserved review Simon. It's good to read a review that doesn't gush and claim 'Best Bond Film EVER" right out of the box - helps to keep my expectations grounded in some degree of reality.

Skyfall in London was pretty epic, met some wonderful people, drank too much Scotch, got back to my hotel at 4am, did an interview for French media, narrowly missed being flattened by a lorry, spent too much money, and I have NEVER seen so many men in Tuxedos in all my life...

It was lovely meeting you and touring around with you, Goodnight.

The premiere certainly was an epic occasion. As one of the North American contingent fortunate enough to attend the premiere, it was an unforgettable experience. For some reason, I was picked out of the crowd to be interviewed for Chinese television, and that certainly doesn't happen every day.

As for the film, I don't think it's as good as "Casino Royale," but it's an excellent film and a most welcome addition to the Bond canon. Beautifully photographed, excellent performances, exciting action sequences, and many moments to stir the blood and the emotions. I won't get a chance to see it again until the US premiere in two weeks, so I'm reserving many of my judgments until then. I can say, however, that they've truly delivered "Bond with a capital B."

Yes Major, it was a pleasure to meet you too, I appreciate how nice you all were to me and it was great to see the sights with such lovely people who share the same passion.

I was mighty impressed with your knowledge of London and Britain, you certainly know tons more than me, and you knew your way around well too. I had to sheepishly admit that we'd got on the wrong train to West Brompton on the District Line. How daft of me. :/

I really enjoyed the time and if I had booked it earlier I would have stayed in London at least one more night.

Cheers :)

Its probably from Dalton's screen test where he did the hotel scene from OHMSS. "You're full of surprises contessa."

I'm surprised that former 007s weren't there considering its the 50th anniversary. I know Moore was attending another event on that day, but I think Lazenby and Dalton deserved to be invited back to watch a better film =)

I was also lucky enough to make the trip to London for the Royal Premiere and decided to pack as much Bond fun into a few days as possible. Pinewood had come and gone, so I traveled over Saturday night and was met at Paddington Station by Major and Mrs Tallon. We spent the whole day touring many Bond sites - both literary and film-based,

On Monday, Athena and I took the train to Maidenhead and drove down to Beaulieu with Jeff007 and Professor Dent where we spent the day enjoying the incredible Bond In Motion collection and catching up from previous adventures. Jeff made friends with the manager, who gave us a personal tour and allowed us to sit in a few of the vehicles and pose with the star of the show - the DB5. We finished the day by meeting the top brass of CBn for dinner. It was an honor and a pleasure, Paul and David.

On Tuesday the lovely Ms Goodnight made the trip to London and joined our little group as we continued to work through the list of Bond sites identified by the Major and mapped out by Mrs Tallon. Those two really know how to get value out of the London Tube system. :) We wrapped the day up by 3:00 and headed our separate ways to prepare for the premiere and reconvened at the red carpet by 5:00. I hated saying goodbye to Ms Goodnight, but we all planned to gather at the Hippodrome Casino following the show for debrief over cocktails. Wednesday was more of the same, tracking down sites that included a fair number of Skyfall locations that the Tallons saved until after the film, which made them rather surreal since we had just seen them on the big screen. After dinner at a little pub, we discussed plans to meet again at the next premiere and bid Ms Goodnight a fond farewell. Thursday were more sites with the Tallons, Professor Dent, and Jeff007 and then it was time for me to pack as I was heading to Heathrow in the morning.

As for THE EVENT itself... Ms Goodnight is correct that there were never more men in tuxedos - it made identifying the other CBn agents difficult since everyone was dressed the same, but the impact was quite impressive. The ladies held back nothing, they were more beautiful than ever! Walking the red carpet and seeing the stars of the film everywhere you looked made the decision to spend thousands of dollars and fly many thousands of miles an obvious no-brainer. The fact that this was the 50th Anniversary ensured that all the stops had been pulled out - the Rolls in use for star delivery were Goldfinger's and Cubby's. These are literally museum pieces that were pulled from the Beaulieu Motor Museum and pressed into service for the evening.

SKYFALL itself is full-powered, non-stop BOND. Daniel Craig shows even more depth as he has grown into Fleming's flawed and human secret agent. All the pieces are in place: beautiful locations, incredible sets, gorgeous women, and a creepy villain in support of an excellent script. I feel this is going to be one of the best films in the canon, but some of that sense could come from the impact of the whole evening. I can hardly wait to see it in an IMAX cinema to see how it stands as a film on its own - but my fellow agents that stayed on in London have reported that it was in a word "AWESOME". I'll reserve final judgement for the 12 days remaining until it opens in the USA - and I can hardly wait.

Thank you to Major and Mrs Tallon for showing me around James Bond's London all week and being such good friends. To my fellow CBn agents and Bond friends old and new, it was great seeing you as always - and I look forward to our next adventures. To the lovely Ms Goodnight, I am so glad you made the trip to London and we had the chance to get to know you. Leaving you at the red carpet was the low point of the trip, so next time we will make sure you will be joining us for the whole show.

Respectfully,
Double-0-7

Always the same problem on those premieres :D
Maybe we should have some kind of lapel pin for the next one. Met and talked to so many people, difficult to put names (and screen names) to faces... Unfortunately, I lost my small camera with all my pictures from the Hippodrome. Any of you guys happened to have found it?
