Below is the link to 007.com with more info on this. Can't post the official images (as part of the forum rules, but it is in the article)

What do you think?

(Sorry, I may have posted it in the wrong section of Skyfall. If Needed necessary, please move)

Are you sure that is Q? Well, he looks a bit like the chinese in the supermarket one block away of home. I'll give the pic a print and I'll ask him his autograph this night! :D

I like the look. Different, but good. Glasses are fine by me. To me, his look is what a modern real Q would be - a young, smart, fresh out of school nerdy guy with some type of engineering degree. He fits the bill. I love Desmond to death, but an older military man just wouldn't make sense in the more modern direction the Craig films have taken. It still could have worked and I wouldn't have objected to John Cleese returning, but this young Q fits better.

I like Ben Whishaw a lot, but I'm not exactly excited over the return of Q. Not by a long shot.

I just feel this is a look too exptected from a re-booted 'Q' character, which is a shame as I was hoping for something a bit different.

Let's hope the character himself isn't a Clark Kent type, a in meek, mild, glasses pushing, bumbling nerd... or if he will have a real modern attitude, on the ball and cutting edge with his delivery and charisma.

I am not disappointed - the character looks like I thought he would look. Whether Whishaws Q works or not is up to the writing.

I too am hoping this character doesn't degenerate into the "goth geek" thing done in so many TV shows. I'm hoping Whishaw can bring a bit more steel and cunning to the role, not make him too much of a caricature. Also, I'd like to see him as the armourer, talking with Bond about weapons. BTW ... does anyone know whether this character will still be "Major Boothroyd"?

No idea really. I suppose it's up to us, Llewelyn was never called that IIRC. The Shark expressed his hopes Bond would annoy the hell out of this Q, but there's reason to believe it could be the other way around. Wonder how that will play, really. The looks are nothing special, typical geek. But the character seems to go into another direction.

He sure doesn't look like a "major". Perhaps Dungeon Master Boothroyd. This kind of character could easily be hackneyed, but it will be interesting to see his interactions with Bond. Whishaw is a talented guy, so I expect it won't be just a stock character.

That´s actually quite right. Anyone who´s expecting him to be your common geek fellow, isn´t aware of the quality of the script nor the quality of Ben as an actor. The guy can really sell his characters. Just look at The Hour. He´s fenomenal in that one. The banter between him and Dominic West is a good example of what may be the Bond/Q relationship.

I hope not.Llewellyn was called Major Boothroyd at least twice, by M in FRWL and by Anya in TSWLM.
And I wish that they'd introduce Whishaws character as Quartermaster which slowly evolves into Q.

Glad to see the Q character back. The look is a bit tech nerd cliché. He reminds me of Cillian Murphy aka Scarecrow from Batman Begins.

I feel it may have helped add a couple of extra years to his look by shortening the hair a little. The style of costume doesn't bug me really, though perhapse just the overall perfect neatness of it. Can still be perfectly smart, just not as freshly bought and iron-pressed looking. I imagine Q to be just a little more concerned with his work than his appearance, working long hours and occasionally getting grubby. This kind of perfect look seems to be in most current films and TV shows - it often bugs me.

If Whishaw gives us a cracking portrayal of Q though, the image will be unimportant. I have great confidence in his talent for generating rich, interesting and very unique characters.

Ben Whishaw on Q in The Telegraph: "“I’m not allowed to! In fact, I don’t think I’m even allowed to admit that I’m playing him. We’re all sworn to complete secrecy, and someone’s knuckles were rapped for saying too much. It’s all very strange.”

Obviously his manager got a firm talking to for the leak earlier this year

I reckon Bond will give him the 'Q' abbreviation, with his witty response being about something more memorable than his actual name, or something like that. Would be a nice few seeds sewn into their on-screen chemistry if this can continue over future films.

I think it’s interesting that Bond meets up with Q early on in the film at the National Gallery. Why does he have a meeting with him outside of the new MI6 bunker HQ?
Especially odd as their introduction seems quite hostile. Could it be that the two are actually more friendly than they are pretending? Could the lack of respect banter be for the benefit of those around them, with Bond not certain who he can trust at MI6, other than Q?

Could Q be a messenger from M? Or vice versa, a means to get to M?

Bond has talked with M at her house, I think the National Gallery happens after the word association and evaluation – Bond could have changed who he wants to confide in by then...

Perhaps the National Gallery has a 'hidden door' of sorts into a secret MI6 office? Something like in Octopussy or Die Another Day. I can't recall them all at the moment.

For some reason, I've always had in the back of my mind that the National Gallery would be a secret entrance to Q Branch and the underground bunker. I can't recall any specific reason why I thought that, but it would be quite smart if done well.

Haha, just imagine if after all these deep theories into this one still Bond just goes there, sits down a moment then disappears down a shoot, lands awkwardly like Connery in YOLT (meeting Tanaka) - Q turns around upon his arrival and says, 'You're late double o seven! This way, please.'

So this is Major Boothroyd, huh?

I get the feeling that the only people who call him "Major Boothroyd" are the other guys in his CoD: Modern Warfare 3 party.

I'm left a little unsure on this one, but I did get a kick out of

and I'm nothing if not open-minded. A twenty-something techie could work as the weapons master of England's foreign counterintelligence agency, I suppose.

I would love to see a throwback to Octopussy were Bond jumps through a painting and a new one covers it up.

Didn't that happen in OP but they drive through it and it is a poster?

At first, I thought that the National Gallery was the secret way out of the MI6 Bunker too.
Recently however, I’ve changed my mind. I’ll try to explain why. There are a number of reasons.

Firstly, Silva’s underground path to Whitehall – this route simply would not make sense if the bunker was under nearby Trafalgar Square.

Secondly, according to the new IMAX trailer, Bond is introduced to the new Q in the film. Why would this happen in the National Gallery and not say Q-branch or M’s office? We will soon get confirmation of this one, when someone sees the trailer.

Thirdly, Bond seems to be sitting around waiting for someone in the National Gallery still. We know Q is in this scene, so it stands to reason it’s him. Why would Bond be sitting alone in the National Gallery waiting to see someone he had just been introduced to? Particularly if that person showed no respect for Bond and Bond For him.
Answer: The banter was for someone else’s benefit, now they are meeting up secretly where they can really talk – i.e. away from the bunker.

Could it be that Q gives Bond the location of his Aston, personal belongings and other items he will need? Not sure how that would fit with the timeline.

I think Q will certainly be involved in helping Bond get his Aston Martin and flee London, but the National Gallery scene involves Bond meeting Q much earlier in the movie. Hope that helps.
