Cheers Mr*. Now, selling that one to my mother... Hmm. Joking aside, i'll give that a shot. Thanks for the info Jim. Sure looking forward to reading the whole thing.

Sorry to be bombarding you chaps with questions but i'm a bit of a finicky (hope i spelt that right-not sure that word is in the dictionary) bond fan, and according to some friends, a bit sad (they say this because i'm currently buying all the Fleming novels With Fahey's covers just because i think the artwork is great, even though i already have a complete collection of Fleming from the Coronet reprints in 1997) but i'd like to print off the FanFiction stuff and bind it up like a proper paperback release. From what i've read of Mr*'s MIGHTIER THAN THE SWORD and Thomas Clink's FROM DEATHS DOOR, these coud easily stand up along side Amis, Gardner or Benson's continuation novels, and so i'd like to have hard copies in my collection. I read Mr*'s post further back about how to bind them up once printed, but i'm having a spot of bother actualy getting them printed out right. I can't seem to get them to print in booklet form eg. pages 1 & 30 on one side and pages 2 & 29 on the other. I've only got the free acrobat reader that you can download from adobe. Do i need the full blown version to achieve my aim, or do i need another piece of software entirely??

Maybe Xencat can throw some light my way, i read a post of his a while ago where he alluded to doing what i'm trying to do.

Can anyone in forum land help me out? I know i'm quizzing you folks a lot for a new poster, hope this isn't too cheeky of me.

Hawkeye.

One more thing;

Mr *, Do you have any high res files of the FanFiction jacket arts for yours, Mr Clink's, and Xenobia's fan Fics that you could post up for me?

Did you do Back covers and spines as well. They would be really useful for what i talked about in my above post. No worries if you didn't, i certainly don't expect you to create them just for me.

Sorry again for all the requests. Hopefully i'll be able to help you out with anything you might need in the future that falls into my categories of expertise. Eg. Sitcom info/comedy info from MASH to SEINFELD and all around them and in-between, Scriptwring for TV, comic book stuff (yeah i'm a geek), View Askew stuff and Formula 1 racing (the source for all things Schumacher - don't hold that against me).

Cheers,
Hawkeye.

Thank you. :) You have only five posts and you’ve already made me blush twice. I leave the critique of my book to others, but I certainly agree with you about From Death’s Door. Thomas Clink’s book always came off to me as a cross of Fleming and Amis. I have said it many times, Jim or Thomas should be writing the official books.

I do have 300 dpi versions of all of the book covers I have done (Sadly, I don’t for the Shatterhand poster though. Like an idiot, I created that low-res). But they are huge files and I don’t have anyplace to post files that big. As far as back covers go, so far I only have a back cover and spine for Mightier Than The Sword, though I will be doing one for From Death’s Door. I most likely will do a back cover for Just Another Kill, but not until Jim is finished writing the book.

I’ll get back with you on printing these out in book form.

Thanks Mr* you're a sport.
Would it be possible for you to e-mail the High Res full cover for your novel to me as an attachment? My e-mail is;
[email protected]

No probs if that's not possible though.

Mr *,

I'm still working on my COONEL SUN cover a la Fahey. Could you tell what font you used for writing J.I.M. Stewart on the JAK cover so i can write Kingsley Amis in the same style?

PS. When you post your COLONEL SUN jacket, where will it be posted in the forums?

Off the top of my head, I believe the font was Compacta. I’ll try to let you know tomorrow for sure when I can get to those files. And yes, I will post my Colonel Sun cover in the these forums.

Thank you. Still struggling getting the girl to look right. Got plenty of great material via your suggestion though. Interested to see if the women we've chosen to represent Ariadne are similar or not.

Not that I am impatient or greedy, but....

Jim...when do we get chapter six of Just Another Kill? Much like most of the characters in your book, I am dying to read it.

Ah

Apologies but haven't been too well lately

Second reason is that I'm trying to complete more as I go along and get up to ch 8 finished - and because I changed something in Ch 8, I had to go back and change something in Ch 6 - if that follows.

As a more direct answer to question:-

"Shortly"

- to be on the safe side, I had better complete ch 8 first!

Mr *, just wondered if you'd come up with anything for regarding printing the fan fiction in book form eg. computer programs, paper types etc.

Cheers

For some reason everytime I think of this title all I remember is 'Death Comes to Time' or other silly titles such as 'A Long Time to Kill', "Killing is done on Time', etc but I do know that 'Death Comes to Time' belongs to a different series. However I just can't get it out of my head.

I have read 'Death Comes to Time' and I have enjoyed it very much. I was just wondering if Jim could do something for me - make it better.

He can't improve on the prose, merely the thoughts in it. Make it really memorable. It seems every story nowdays involves death, murder and general mayhem - and they are good, as is this - (very good). But what makes something last long after the author has gone? You see you can't kill a thought or an idea, and as we have seen they do tend to hang around.

I have seen Jim write and I think if anyone deserves to produce something that 'makes people think' long after reading a book, it is him.

No offence. It was merely a suggestion.

[SPOILERS]

Interesting feedback

I could be very, very defensive and (in a horribly self-aggrandising manner) purport that:-

/spoiler.gif
A man having a knife driven through his temples and out of his eyes, and begging to be killed

Bond slitting the throat of a haemophiliac with a blunt razor and stuffing the wound with pages torn from The Bible

A 'plane crash

A naked woman shaving Bond's head

Bond high as a kite on painkillers

Bond forced to crawl across a floor and eat glass

Bond letting a man kill himself

Bond desecrating a corpse

A man being cut in half but a blast from a twelve-bore, the half spinning away into the face of another man
/gen_line.gif

...amongst other things - what more do you people want?:):D

True - purely visceral incident thus far. Rest assured, there's something coming I want a reaction to, though. Whether it works to make you think or just ill is another matter.

(Treat this as a "trailer", those of you who haven't bothered with it)

I've not read much of "Just Another Kill" (what I've read I'm very impressed with), and this little "trailer" of yours has inspired me to give it a further bash.

The more violence the better. I love violence. But you have to do it well. I seem to remember somewhere where Bond was hung up and subjected to an Indian ritual - yawn. I remember somewhere where Bond was captured and tortured for 14 months - yawn. I have seen him kill 100 people without batting an eyelid - yawn.

I am not being mean - I am just - er well, being mean, selfish and pushy. I have enjoyed every word - but as this is probably the last best hope for Bond literature I want something better than Benson:

How can I put this

- I would not know a sea island cotton shirt if it bit me, but for me they are Jamaica, crabs and hotel rooms with no air and too much air conditioning

- Quantum of Solace: a man driven over the edge who goes back to die with those who first showed him kindness

- Smoke, sweat and blood, that can be washed off with motel soap

or in other words, not just another kill...

I just finished reading the first chapter last night. Wow, talk about memorable! Everything about it was so immersive, the world just sucks you in in the same way Fleming's stories did. The sight, sounds, emotions, everything was there. Can't wait to finish my finals so I can jump back into chapter 2.

Jim, was the description of the red leather door and the red/green light to M's office taken from the movies or the books?

Thanks for the feedback - very kind.

As for the light thing; dunno. Seem to remember that Fleming used it (but was never very consistent with the colour of the light). Can't remember seeing it in the films (was it in Dr No?). Anyway, probably books rather than films.

Good luck in your exams (if not done by now).

The light was in the film Dr. No. In the books I believe the light was blue in Casino Royale and then green after that. I could be wrong.

When you first read chapter 7, you might be wondering, "What is going on here?" Well, keep reading and you will find out.

This chapter makes you think about Bond's (and your own), place in the world. Don't be afraid of the thought.

And by the way...it is also excellent writing.

Thoroughly enjoyed the first few chapters and then realised that this is something I have to read with fewer time gaps between chapters to fully savour - hence stopped.

Good luck with getting your tome finished Jim, will look forward to downloading the entire thing and cracking on with it apace.

I'm with you, Simon.

After reading the first chapter I realised it deserved to be read in one go. So I'm waiting for the second half with glee.

My Just Another Kill folder is half full, while Jim's creation is half finished.

Part one is now complete. And, my God, this is one of the most amazing ways that this alphabet of ours could ever be jumbled. I realised while reading it that the first third of this latest chapter (8) could simply stand alone as one of the greatest Bond short stories.

I feel humbled trying to use the same language as the one Jim has learned to master.
