I think this is one of the few constants that have been part of Skyfall from the inception of the project. It’s what Peter Morgan was talking about when he called it a ‘shocking story’.

I would expect it to be the bump at the end the plot hook that he has said is still in the script from his original treatment.

That said, how do you do it? Blow her up and vanish forever? Or slowly in Bond's presence? Either way, Bond's reaction should be truly insightful and incredible no matter what way is chosen. I always thought Craig played the quiet but mad part extremely well.

Not so much in an execution manner. Perhaps with the destruction of Skyfall Lodge, M is trapped -pinned beneath a rafter or something - and tells/orders/asks Bond to leave her or a simple "leave me the gun James...I'll take care of it myself. Now get those bastards." It'll be a big moment. Both Craig and Dench are capable of selling it. We shall see how it plays out.

I want chills when this scene happens. Mendes has an incredible finesse when it comes to melodramatic deaths. Paul Newman's scene in Road to Perdition stands out. Terribly excited.

This could also strengthen the trust between Bond and Mallory at the film's end, in case he was distrustful of Bond throughout the adventure.
I expect to see Mallory behind a certain desk in the scene 172, before Bond goes up on the roof of the MoD to receive a certain box from the agent he will never end up in bed with...

Now that would be a real shock. And a fantastic scene. If that actually happens then Bond has truly proven that he is loyal to his job.

Saw the title, guessed, and was not even remotely surprised that I was right. It's a small spoiler, because we still don't know the conditions, and therefore how it will impact us as an audience.

Glad I saw this and yeah, I'm not surprised. It's good to get mentally prepared for this scene so that I'll be ready for it when the film comes out. And yeah, as much as I love Judi as M, I'm perfectly okay with her leaving the role of M. Seven Bond films over 17 years is quite a remarkable achievment..She's more than made her mark on the series.

No. Eon would never make a nonsense out of every film they made with her before this. Which in affect that would do. This will be played for pathos, full stop.
