so he may not be overrun with offers of work in the next few years and as such may need Bond so he can get smaller, less commercial projects of the ground.

Agreed.

I anticipate Craig will bow out after his fifth.

(quote)

I agree. I am 100% certain Craig will do Bond 24 - and I think, if they keep to the two year schedule, which both MGM and Sony seem determined to do now, and Bond 25 hits production for a late 2016 release, I expect Craig will do it. He'll be 48, but will be still be in very good shape, and still a year younger than Brosnan who was 49 for his 4th film.

5 Craig Bond films would be perfect.

I always felt Connery should have kept it to 5, with YOLT as his swan-song, and equally Sir Roger at 5 with FYEO.

Damn Daily Mail.

The man who is taking charge of 007 for the final time has graced a very special edition of the new Empire magazine.
Daniel Craig looks suave, sophisticated and stylish as he poses with his small firearm on the limited edition cover of the movie magazine.

Just an attention grabber, this "final time". Nothing to it.

They also reprinted the Moneypenny rumour, which has been debunked several times.

I actually think their content is now made up by some program that just samples whetever google provides & mixes in some of their own archives content, i.e. condensed and rehashed rumour excrement. Grab a trainee, let him punch a few sentences from the stuff, add the new pics - there you go with another fine piece from the hands of the Mail wordsmiths.

I read that today have to admit, my heart sank a little and I had to re-read it a few times to make sense of it.

Didn't expect them shoving that in there! They get paid money for that sort of thing, and we know far more about the topics than they do. Pay US to write the articles!

5 would be nice for me I think too. As long as he is happy doing them and they maintain a level of decency, long may Craig continue!

Could they be referring to DC's current contract? How many films is he currently signed on for? Is it 3 with an option for a 4th?

He's on for as long as the producers want to keep him. They certainly have the funds to sign him for longer, and pay him if they release him early.

It is very sad, the state of lots of newspapers.

They just reprint stuff other publications come out with (using the cover of EMPIRE as news? Excuse me?) Then they have no one to check the truth - or they simply do not care.

Why people still bother to buy such a publication...

And I don´t blame the journalists. There are still some fine people working (or being downsized, unfortunately). But the day Big Business bought the press was the day it was all going downhill.

This article is saying DC is signed on for QOS for 5 million and SF for 8 million. (July, 2007) http://www.dailymail...-Bond-deal.html
This one says his new contract is for 5 films total. (Written before QOS had a name) http://www.007museum...aniel_Craig.htm
Here are a few articles about the producers wanting to sign DC on for 8 films total. (December 2011)
http://news.sky.com/...rticle/16133183 http://www.sheknows....-craig-contract
http://www.jamesbond...ntract+extended http://articles.nyda...s-casino-royale http://www.mi6-hq.co...g.php3?id=03036
This is the Wikipedia link which isn't certainly fact but I thought I would mention it already claims DC is signed on for 8 total.

And here are some examples of what your talking about SecretAgentFan and I agree, downhill.

Gentlemen, actually nobody outside a circle of five to ten people does have any need to know about specifics of Craig's involvement. Everybody's guess is as good as mine and I have no idea.

What I do have an idea about however, is that news about an end of Craig's Bond tenure at this very moment would doubtless be major news. Sean-Connery-returns-to-Bond league news. And no journalist worth a pencil would throw away this kind of scoop in a half-sentence, not even on board a rag as the Mail.

I guess DC will be pretty busy if his schedule turns out something like this:
2012 Skyfall
2013 The Girl Who Played With Fire
2014 Bond 24
2015 The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet's Nest
He'll probably do some smaller roles as well, right?

Were the returns for Dragon Tattoo enough for sequels? I read somewhere they weren't too impressed.

Germanlady recently posted further remakes of the Millennium series would cut back on the budget. Probably a wise move, but the core of the matter is, there is already a rather good adaption, the cuts hardly dried and fans of the books are quite satisfied with the result. Those who have seen the Swedish version already may or may not see the American remake. But it's debatable if the remakes can actually reach a broader audience. It's not exactly 'easy' and 'feel-good' - and 'foreign' on top of that - and at least the majority of the American market is not too fond of such material. Craig is a hot name at the moment, but he can't change basic preferences, no matter how fantastic his performance may be. He's fighting a lost cause there and perhaps it would have been better he'd picked another project.

Oscar Nominee Rooney Mara Talks 'Dragon Tattoo' Sequels
The film is apparently on target for a late 2013 release date, though someone better keep Mara in the loop on that.
http://www.mtv.com/n...-01-09 08:43:42

DC and Rooney are contracted to film both the sequels.

Well, I suppose the initial contracts for such projects nowadays include options for a number of further films by default. But if a film really underperforms there are surely limits to how far the actors must commit themselves. THE GOLDEN COMPASS made not the box office New Line had hoped for, so an adaption of the - rather problematic - second and third part of HIS DARK MATERIALS became increasingly unlikely. A similar fate could have afflicted the MILLENNIUM series, complaints about a net loss are not exactly promising. But it seems SONY feel confident they can do a whole lot better, so they'll go for the entire run.

I wonder what the consequence would be if they broke their contract, since all signs point to the sequels being made. Probably filmed back to back and on a cheaper budget. The sequels could also have a lower rating, meaning they'll be open to a larger audience and they'll probably try to avoid another Christmas release. TGWTDT was nominated for 5 Oscars including best actress and Won in editing. I think there is to much going for it to stop now.
Dec, 29, 2011 The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo: will the film sequels be scrapped?
Sony maintain that developments for the planned sequel, The Girl Who Played with Fire, are already under way.http://www.telegraph...e-scrapped.html
Jan, 3rd, 2012 The Girl Who Played With Fire Is Still On Track
Sony does intend to press on with the sequel. It is still set for a late 2013 release date and stars Rooney Mara and Daniel Craig are said to be reprising their roles. The only unknown variable right now is director David Fincher, who has the option to direct, but hasn’t officially signed on yet.
http://wegotthiscove...yed-fire-track/
The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo SEQUEL IS STILL MOVING FORWARD

Dragon Tattoo writer Steve Zaillian is in the early stage of scripting Girl Who Played with Fire, which Fincher has the option to direct. While he has not yet committed to the project, the Oscar-nominated filmmaker has admitted that (should he sign on) he would prefer to shoot both the second and third Millennium book adaptations back-to-back, for both practical and artistic purposes. http://screenrant.co...l-sandy-145697/

March, 23rd, 2012 THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO Sequels To Get Cheap

(This must be what GermanyLady was talking about)

According to Barber, MGM is in talks with Sony about continuing the franchise “assuming we can achieve better economics.” Which sounds like 'Make the next one cheaper.' http://badassdigest....ls-to-get-cheap
March, 24th, 2012 The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo fails to make its mark at the box office.

It is expected the sequels will now happen only if their production budgets can be squeezed http://www.dailymail...box-office.html

Movie by the numbers: http://www.the-numbe.../2011/TGRLW.php Maybe I'm just not ready to give up on these films yet.
