It starts at 9pm, BBC1 on Friday here in the UK.

Goes on for about 3 hours so should be epic! I reckon James Bond will open the ceremony probably first to make the most of the dusk light, to tie in with the pre-recorded video segments to appear "live".

I hope that this is not true. The idea of a Bond actor opening the Olympic Games makes me want to cringe. Free publicity via the Olympics, anyone?

I always found it astonishing that he would get picked on for wearing his safety jacket. Why shouldn´t he have worn that? Bond certainly would have done that. Everybody with his senses together would have done that.

Naw, it was just a way for cruel journalists to pour hate on him.

That is mostly a thing of the past now, however.

Yes I found that bizarre too: it was as if they didn't realise that film and real life are two different things.

I don't think some people do see past the actor and the fictional character either marktmurphy!

And DR76, it's not confirmed and I don't think Daniel Craig wil actually light the Stadium Couldron via the final Olympic Torch, but rather he will open the ceremony itself, as a symbol of Britishness on a mission from Queen Elizabeth II. You can't get more British that 50 years of James Bond on a global scale - I don't think there will be any marketing material for 'Skyfall' involved.

There are reports now, that a stuntman does whatever stunt. IF true, I consider it real bad, they didn't shut down the early reports of DC doing it. Now, the haters and press WILL have another reason to pick on im, even tough its only for insurance reasons, because absailing is nothing he couldn't easily do ater all the stunt work, he has done.
I hope, its not true...

@casinoroyale: I love me some Tuvia :)

As well as Bond, rumours are now that Lord Voldermort will face off against multiple Mary Poppins's in a nightmare vs peaceful 'battle'...I know, sounds like an acid trip but that's the latest rumour!

http://www.mediaite....lord-voldemort/

And found this scan from April about the details. I'm afraid it's too small to read, but the pictures certainly conjur up an exciting image of what it could be like...!

Posted Image

1) "Now then 007," M says. "Head to the Palace. HM has a job for you. Get it right or you're for the high jump."

2) The Queen ushers Bond into the palace and over tea tells him "One would like you to open the Olympics."

3) Bond calmly finishes his Earl Gret and bids the Queen goodbye before scrambling aboard a waiting chopper.

4) 007 parachutes into the stadium with seconds to spare. He tells the stunned crowd: "The names Bond, Games Bond."

Fantastic, Script by Purvis and Wade, no doubt.

This is come a long way since its birth as a potential April Fool's gag (unfortunate timing for the papers to get the story on April 1st!). I'm as excited as anyone else now; I've come around to the idea of Bond being part of the spectacle.

The ceremony is expected to open with the Bond sequence at 2100 BST (1600 EST).

"Bond, Games Bond"?

Please, EON, don´t let him say that...

Fingers crossed he wont say that in front of billions of people around the world....please god!

And I was thinking yesterday, I doubt it would happen but I'd love the video footage to start of with maybe a new/re-shot gunbarrel that may be taken from 'Skyfall' or a variation of one, to start the mini-Bond movie perhaps? Better that than we just get a fade in from black anyway...!

Somehow I don't think the image of someone walking on to a screen and shooting a gun at you is really what the Olympic organizers would want to start off with...

Well, James Bond to save the day since the GS4 security guys weren't up to snuff.

Not sure if this has been voiced elsewhere, and if not, then it should have.

Too good to be true.

LOL that is a very good take on things. I fully expect the BBC commentators to mention that.

I also expect the segment to be rather short - I'd be surprised if the whole Bond element clocks more than 3 minutes.

Agree. It would be utterly out of place.

Same here. What's Bond got to do with the Olympics? If he had to show up everytime something just happens to take place in London...

Exactly - it's celebrating the culture of London, of the host city and Great Britain as a whole to show the world why they are suitable to bring the Games to life.

As much as it's about the sport, the Olympics is also about the community spirit, bringing the nation together and celebrating everything and everyone of that country that helped win the games itself.

I think it's going to be brilliant.

All you lucky folks living in the U.K. will get to see the show in a hour or so...it will NOT be broadcast live here in the U.S...it'll be shown this evening, so there'll be more time for us to build up the anticipation.. I look forward to initial reactions from our UK friends once you get to see the Bond opening film..

There won't be a SKYFALL trailer for commercial reasons, but my hopes are high for a classy little sequence.
