As a musician myself, I can assure you that arranging the 007 theme for a modern Bond film, particularly of the apparent quality and detail of this one, would not be a problem. I'm sure that any composer would love to work with it. It's a spectacular piece of action score that has limitless possibilities. Just imagine listening to the James Bond theme itself from Dr No, without any point of reference of other versions having ever been used and continued through all the films, and deciding that it's too old fashioned and jazzy a piece to be used in a modern Bond film. Clearly that would be grossly incorrect and narrow-viewed. John Barry didn't create what he did with the Bond music by playing safe and doing what every other film was doing at the time even then.

Frankly though, you could even use both the original James Bond theme and 007 theme recordings in a modern Bond film, and they would still sound as amazing as they were then.

Rewatching Casino Royale, I'm sure the 007 theme would be perfect for the free running/construction site sequence - I think it would work in a modern Bond film. If Skyfall has an appropriate sequence I would love even a trace of the 007 theme, however subtle.

I could also imagine it in the Miami airport scene. Whenever the dialogue gives way to action and the stakes are high, the 007 Theme can be used.

I really don't like the 007 theme.

I think Thomas Newman would be best having a little study of the scores from From Russia With Love, Thunderball and On Her Majesty's Secret Service.

Sadly I believe all Barry's scores prior to his move to Majorca/America in 74/75 are missing. At one time they were in storage in Jersey, Chanel Islands, though it has been said they were subsequently destroyed in a warehouse fire. That said, one with a good enough ear can listen to those scores to get an idea of orchestration, harmony, voicing, recording techniques etc. Out of the later Bonds, DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER, MOONRAKER and A VIEW TO A KILL are also three scores that deserve a good listen.

That's a true shame such material should have been lost. After all these are documents of cinematic history, invaluable for future generations.

If one assumes that the teaser trailer contains the first hints of Thomas Newman's Bond approach (and I so no real reason not to), I'm very happy indeed with how he's kicked off.

EDIT: Trailer music not composed by Thomas Newman.

I see no reason to think it has anything to with Newman...?

Well, we know it's not a recycled score of Arnold's, so I'd wonder who they would have asked to compose new music for the trailer if not Newman? Admittedly, I'm not hugely clued up on the way the studios handle the composition of trailers, so it's a case of me wondering through my naivety really.

Yes, I think it's Newman as well. That is definately the Bond theme at the start. A new variation as well. Not trailer-esque in the least. Infact, it's one of the most beautiful pieces of music I've heard.

Trailers have music composed just for them all the time. There's no reason to believe Thomas Newman had anything to do with it.

John Barry on trailer music from an interview in Gstaad, Switzerland, March 7, 1996.

"There are actually people these days who do 'trailer tracks,' which is a pretty awful thing to happen."

Definitely not Newman doing the trailer music. He begins work on Skyfall in June.

If anyone here wants to hear a hardcore Newman action cue, I suggest downloading "The Bad Death Of Eduard Delacroix" on ITunes from THE GREEN MILE. Guy's got the chops.

Thanks for the information on both fronts. My mistake. Well, whoever did it has done a decent job.

It's a nice job. Pretty Inception-like I suppose to start with, but I love the electro Bond theme stepping in subtly there.

Eduard Delacroix? Any relation to Monique Delacroix?

Not unless Stephen King is a hardcore-Fleming buff; not sure about that.

That would be an extraordinarily hardcore and obscure reference if it were.

I believe Stephen King never was a big Bond fan. You´ll have better luck finding the name in his DARK TOWER universe.

Actually, I'm hoping his SF score isn't too much like that track, which for my taste is kind of muddled and noisy. For me, a very Bond-like Newman track is "Exclusion Zone" from The Iron Lady, especially toward the end of the track--even has some Barryesque brass ruffles.

Well, it's avant-garde and extremely aggressive, though not muddled. It would be interesting to see a full-blown fight sequence to something like that (not the wannabe ambient atonal stuff in Arnold's CR score).

Will Newman do his own version of the Bond theme or can we use the John Barry theme song once again

Have picked up "Whispers in the dark", a Newman score from the 90´s. And while it has his trademark peculiarities it has also wonderfully lyrical passages that could fit into a Bond film very well.

http://www.mi6-hq.co...02&t=mi6&s=news This was posted over at MI6-hq, thanks to Germanlady.. Good to hear that Thomas Newman is starting to "brainstorm" ideas for the score shape..I'd imagine that within 3-4 months the score should be pretty set, but we'll see.. Can't wait to hear what Newman is gonna come up with..

I am a big fan of David Arnold but I'll be anxious to hear what Newman comes up with. He's got the chops and it might be good for Arnold to recharge his batteries. I doubt he's done with the franchise (even John Barry needed breaks every once in a while), so in the meantime, it'll be nice to hear something fresh.

Just for the sheer vintage cool factor, I kind of wish the film would close to the credits with the original Monty Norman Orchestra recording. I think that would be a fantastic way to not only tie in Craig to the Bonds of old as he deserves, but to pay homage to the 50 year anniversary. Just throwin' that out there.
