I don't know if this is the right topic. But I noticed that a coded gun was used also in Licence to Kill, and it seems to be really close to the type of coding M uses with the ppk in Skyfall

There’s a lot of TMWTGG influence in Skyfall, mainly around the duality of the hero and villain. There’s one scene that reworks the sharp shooting episode from TMWTGG but in a way that takes it light years away from being a straight lift.

After watching Skyfall I noticed something that may of been taken from John's Gardners' novel 'For Special Services'. The homosexuality in Silva is similar to that of the bisexual villain, Markus Bismaquer.

Scaramanga in Flemings novel was also rumoured to be bi/homosexual.

I noticed one detail in Skyfall, inpired by the Casino Royale Novel. In Shangai, the way patrice is proceeding to kill the Modigliani's buyer is the same as Bond first to Killing.
A hole in a window of a skycraper to let the canon of a snip out, in order to kill a man in a front building.

In the novel, it's when Bond is explaining Mathis his first to murder that have made him a 00 agent.

''You've killed too many of my friends. I have the licence to kill you and I am going to kill you. But I'll make it quick. Not like Margesson. Remember him? You put a shot through both of his knees and both of his elbows. Then you made him crawl and kiss your boots. You were foolish enough to boast about it to your friends in Cuba. It got back to us.''

Its a tenuous enough link but Bond's compassion for his colleague Margesson in TMWTGG novel reminded me of his reaction towards Ronson in Skyfall. The penny has just dropped that the 'crawl over here and kiss my boot' line was used by Red Grant in FRWL.

Despte the similarity in lines, the film of FRWL was made before TMWTGG was published.

I like how the third act really took all we knew about Bond personally from the books and extrapolated it very nicely, and believably - it feels just at home in Bond canon.
