Actually, what The Shark said, and his follow up comments

I love sandbox games, and would love to play a Bond game with this format. I've suggested something like Mass Effect before. But I was thinking... When I replay Red Dead Redemption, I get through little of the story because I'm too busy doing the side activities. Going to bars and playing poker or lyre's dice, helping citizens, and overall just having fun getting into trouble. I like that game because I get to be a cowboy. In the same vein, I like Arkham City because I got to be Batman. I want a Bond sandbox game that makes me feel like Bond. Not only in the story missions be even in the side quests. Cruise the town in a Bond car, play card games at Blades, relationships like GTA or Mass Effect even better. RPG elements wouldn't hurt. With Bond cars, gadgets and outfits there is lots of room for customization with in the Bond universe. Just to be totally in his shoes for a game would be cool.

This is exactly why there should be a Bond sandbox game. And maybe have a time machine so you can play as the older actors?

Well I guess I am not sure if I want a sandbox game.. I mean where would James Bond even go? I mean he never stays in one place at one time, Red Dead Redemption John Marston is always in California and Mexico that area. Batman is always in Gotham. James Bond.. ehh.? Russia, London, Venice, The States. He never really stays in one place. Personally I think it shouldn't be a sandbox game and more of a story game that is third person and it's an original story. I think that would just work out better for the character and the franchise.

To each their own.

They can add the option to select what place to go. Tomb Raider 3 had this at a certain point of the game (though in a much different way).

My thoughts too.

Yeah but to me that is really weird. I mean in GTA IV you can't just select a different place besides Liberty City. In Batman you can't go to New York.. he has to be in gotham. James Bond just does not have the requirements to have his own Sandbox game and I think that would be a bad place to take the franchise. I think it needs a story with no free roam.

Blood Stone wasn't really a sandbox, but it kind of felt like that. That style of Bond I'm liking, but you know, all of these are ideas. Why do you think it's a bad idea iceskater?

To have a sandbox game? I mentioned them above!

I'd welcome Ubisoft to the James Bond universe - the team seem to put lots of research and detail into their games which pays off no-end.

I'm fine with Ubisoft. Their track record lately suggests they are far better at understanding what the player wants vs EA or Activision.

Yeah Ubisoft would be good.

I found this on YouTube, from the American Conan O'Brien's show, it seems Atari have picked up the James Bond video game licence, as well as 'Harry Potter' and 'The Lord Of The Rings' and have released previews of their 2013 games!
Looks like we have a 'Skyfall' video game on the way...!! Looks far better than 007: Legends!

Activision were on autopilot. I'm glad their run is over. It would've been just more of the same. Stuff like 007 Legends wasn't going to explore new ground. Continuing on with that style of game was just going to be a bad look for everybody. It's such a shame things went this way, because Everything or Nothing was such a great game and template to follow. Who ever gets this licence needs to bring genuine enthusiasm and be bold. Come in and prove themselves with all they've got. With Everything or Nothing, it felt like they really put in the time and care. Bond games can be big events if they do this again. Arkham Asylum and Arkham City are prime examples.

Exactly - there's no reason Bond games have to be grounded to single-narrative first-person shooters. Sure, that's what we're used to, but we can't say that has been totally engaging towards the end?
The Batman games, and Assassins Creed saga, have proved it can be wider, more detailed but just as dangerous, exciting and brilliant to explore and play.

I bought Arkham City on launch day, but have yet to actually play it (Damn you Black Ops II Revolution DLC!), I hate all the Assassin's Creed game, boring and un-interesting, although I may play 4, which is rumored to be set in Brazil. I'm really excited for Watch Dogs though,

Still haven't gotten around to playing AC3. Although I really want to as it has my favorite setting of the entire series thus far with the American Revolution.

For those worried about how sandbox Bond could/would work, this is my idea to get around the "single open world" scenario like Grand Theft Auto where you can only be in one city.
Have smaller open worlds based on each location. Say the game has Bond go to London, Paris, and New York. Not necessarily a full map of London would be available - just as much as the game requires would need to be built in with the option to roam while not on a mission. The missions around London would end with Bond having to go to the airport. Cue the loading screen as the giant map for Paris loads. Then Bond continues getting orders and doing missions in the free roam style on the Paris map. Do that again for New York.
If you just want to explore after you beat the game, there can simply be a menu option to select which city/map you want to explore. London's map would obviously include MI6 headquarters so you could go mess around there, or go do a car chase in New York, or maybe head up the Eiffel Tower just for fun.

Lol, the Revolution DLC that came out last week stopped you playing Arkham City which came out over a year ago?

I was going to play Arkham City, but the DLC came out and it's got me glued to my seat again (as generic as the games are, COD is slightly addictive and fun), I'm picking up Aliens: Colonial Marines in a week, so there's nothing that will stop me from enjoying that game. I've heard great things about Arkham City, and I feel like crap, considering I've played maybe a total of 45 minutes of game time for it.
