Like I said earlier, if Craig wears a beard, it will be for a reason rather than a whim. Brosnan's beard was a product of the story; if Craig wears one, then no doubt it will be, too - like a long-term assignment without regular access to a razor; we know Bond will be in Turkey, so maybe Kerim Bay will be re-introduced (as a replacement for Rene Mathis), encouraging Bond to grow a beard like his.

I could go for another Bond captivity/torture scene. The plot point may be exerted too much recently in the films (TWINE, DAD, CR). But a captivity with some length would be nice to see with Craig's Bond.

No captivity/tortue scene will ever beat the one in the "Firefly" episode War Stories where Mal taunts Wash about Mal's relationship with Wash's wife just to keep Wash conscious:

Mal: "We've just gotta keep our heads."
Wash: "Right. Keep our heads. That way we'll be able to, you know, keep our heads. You and Zoe have been in plenty of situations like this before, right?"
Mal: "Many a time."
Wash: "Many a time, you and Zoe."
Mal: "At least we know who it was took us--"
Wash: "Zoe and you. Together, in a tricky ... Mal, she's my wife!"
Mal: "Huh?"
Wash: "What gives you the right to put her in a dangerous situation like this?"
Mal: "I didn't!"
Wash: "You did!"
Mal: "She ain't here, Wash!"
Wash: "No, but she would've been!"
Mal: "Okay."
Wash: "I mean, I'm the one that she swore to love, honor, and obey."
Mal: "Listen, if ... wait, she swore to obey?"

And all of this while they're about to get tortured. Until Bond can beat a scene like this (which actually makes up about a third of the episode), EON should avoid it.

He said - classic Bond - guess that eleminates a beard for a longer part of the movie. But I think, it would be interesting to have it for a bit..

I don't think he means "classic Bond" in terms of the appearance. If that were the case, he'd be screwed; Daniel Craig doesn't exactly resemble Connery or Moore. I think he means "classic Bond" in the sense that it will be structured more along the lines of the films from the 1960s and 1970s.

Of course Roger Moore does not slightly resemble Sean Connery either.

I suspect it went something like this –

The Sun knows that Craig is in the country working on the new Bond film. They hear he’s been out and about in London sporting a beard. They don’t realise that at the moment he’s just rehearsing for filming in a few weeks time (Mainly because they can’t be bothered to do any research, including reading their own back issues). They put two and two together and make five.

I could be wrong (I bet I’m not) but if he does have a beard in Bond 23, it will be for a specific situation and not for long.

I don't think it's that they don't do research, it's that they think whatever they say is right, regardless of whatever they said yesterday.

I agree in terms of the ingredience of earlier Bond films, like Moneypenny etc, but IMO to make it a classic Bond movie, it would be contraproductive to have Bond look like never before...I know, we will find out soon enough, but speculating is all we can do most of the time anyway.

The Sun article came out on the 21st - so 1 week. He is often sporting stubble close to a beard, so was that enough to come up with the beard idea? Dunno...

Like this - which is less, but not THAT far away from the TuinTin beard. I think, there is some truth in the rumor, that it will happen at some point in Bond.

Like I said, if Craig is wearing a beard, it will be for a reason. When he was chasing Blofeld in Operation Bedlam, he was chasing him for two years. So my theory is this: with Bond being in Istanbul at the start of the film, and with Rene Mathsi having died in QUANTUM OF SOLACE, I think Bond could have been on a long-term assignment in Turkey (thus explaining the four-year gap between QUANTUM OF SOLACE and BOND 23) with a re-imagined Ali Kerim Bey who has encouraged him to grow a beard.

Actually my saying - not this scenario - but that its not a made up rumor, but one with some truth to it - for a bit of the film, just not for the whole movie, which, as I feel, would go against a classic Bond feeling.

I think he'd look pretty cool. Can't see a reason to shoot this one down.

No doubt it wouldn't be for the whole film as they never move too far from the 007 look; even for Casino and Quantum they still kept the dinner suit.

More disturbed by the prospect of his wearing a grotty silver necklace under his costume. I mean, standards.

If he does have a beard, then it's clearly gonna be leading up to Bond becoming Bond and having a shave, like he did in Die Another Day. Can't wait for a bearded Bond in the 60th Anniversary! It is becoming to feel like a tradition. :D

If the beard is for only part of the film, that would mean all the scenes requiring the beard would need to be shot at the beginning of production. Once he shaved it off for the remaining parts of the film, there'd be no chance to grow it back. That would take some tricky scheduling, but isn't impossible.

One of the American tabloids was the first to break the story about Roger Moore's Bond having a beard in his next film after Moonraker.

He was also going to do needlepoint, drink whiskey out of the bottle, shun women and collect cats.

The upcoming 007 epic was to be named "ffolkes."

Granted, Craig's next project is a Bond film, but that doesn't mean that this growth is going to appear anywhere in it, or if it does, that it will be for any longer than a couple of scenes somewhere in the middle.

And as for:

Why though would Bond have a beard??? He had one on DAD becasue he got tortured...so what would provoke him to do it again.

Casino Royale was a reboot, remember? Nothing from Dr. No to Die Another Day has happened to Daniel Craig's Bond. If he does have a beard, it will be for the first time in this series.

Rant over (for now).

So does this prove that Bond will be with a beard in Bond 23? Hell no! Just because he appeared in a film premiere with one doesn't mean that he'll spot one in the film as well. It only takes a jiffy to lose it guys.

Unbelievable how much fuss everyone is making over whether or not Craig will be sporting a beard for Bond 23... If he is, fine..if he isn't, fine..in my opinion. He's got the acting chops to pull off 007 either way.. Personally, I wonder if he may have the beard as part of being undercover for a mission at the beginning of the movie? Sounds interesting to me. One wonders if the CraigNotBond.com folks had anything to do with implanting this rumor into the tabloids! :D

That beard looks great on him; makes him look older and more experienced. If it were up to me, I'd have him wear it for the first two thirds of the film and shave it off for the final confrontation. At this point it seems this is nothing more than rumor but I'm hoping it ends up being true.

I've always felt that this is more the hair length he should sport for Bond:
