The conference itself is inconsequential. The content of that conference - ie a title, cast annoucement, plot details, etc. - is what's important. Likewise, it represents the start of filming, which is always nice.

How was this a bad comment? Hello?

Hi Cap, I didn´t give any of the -1s, but I have to anwser you on this one because, well, I happen to enjoy some of your contributions here and as SOTS over at the other place. Thing is, if you keep anwsering caustically to people who: 1)are not as well versed in english as you are; 2)have some inclination to elaborate on rumours and have join some forums to do so; 3)have expectations of their own (yes...of their own) regarding all things Bond, ..., you´ll end up with many haters. I, for one, don´t like to be told what to expect and what to discuss, I´m a liberal fellow you see, but I do tolerate your pechant for truth because, well, I don´t know, just because. I´m not saying you should take an anger management pill to chill or something like that. It´s just that a very smart and opinionated person such as yourself would be a wonderfull addition to any forum, anywhere, if you just stop being hostile with everyone. See what happens? You happen to say something nice like the above and the sky fell down on you. Is it fair? No. But you made it rain my friend. Take this as a non important advice from a non important person who just happens to like your presence in the forums. Cheers mate

Well, my posts are never intended to be caustic. Not unless someone says something blithely stupid, like "the sky is green". I certainly never attack anyone who is not well-versed in English. I'm well aware that for some people, English is not their first language.

Likewise, I have no issue with discussing rumours and speculation. My issue is when people present those rumours as fact. Or worse, when they present their opinions as fact, then offer no evidence that they know something we do not and expect everyone to believe them on the basis that they are the ones saying it. I remember in the build-up to QUANTUM OF SOALCE, someone on the other forums attempted to convince everyone that they had access to the script and posted a "review" of it (which was basically THE BOURNE ULTIMATUM). It was a sixteen year old kid who was a new member of the forums and was trying to get respect by making everyone think he knew more about the film than he actually did, and he was very aggressive of it. So you'll forgive me if I'm deeply sceptical of people who claim inside information and offer no proof that they are in the position they claim to be. NorthoftheThames did it the other day when he said "BOND 23 will not be SKYFALL. Trust me". The use of the phrase "trust me" implies that he has a reliable connection to someone or something that will prove his claims, and asks us to put faith in it. Given the limited number of people who have access to production of the film - and fewer still who have access to the script - the wider implication is that NorthoftheThames has some connection to EON. So he was asking us to have faith that he was in a position to be in EON's inner circle. And that's a pretty big ask, especially for someone who had only just started posting on the forums. Naturally, I asked him why we should have faith in him like that, and he attacked.

And I certainly don't attack people who have expectations of their own. I'm certainly not trying to force my way of thinking onto anyone else; indeed, I take issue with people who try to ram their opinions down others' throats. To do so myself would be hypocritical. So if people think I'm trying to do that, then they're reading things into my posts that do not exist and are certainly never intended to be present.

Good anwser Captain. And "trust me", I know your intentions are better than half of what they´re perceived to be by most board members. But you have to agree, sometime they do sound a bit authoritative, enough for some good people to say you´re the fun police. Listen, I have no problem with it, it´s just that you seem a bit mopish regarding the way some people tend to respond to you. Best advice I can give about that thing I called your "pechant" is you should just know and get to know people you should trust, then you wouldn´t have to worry about some 16yr old kid with a false statement up his sleave. I´ve been around for 10 years or so and I happen to know which opinions to value and I actually can "smell" false and pretentious claims at some distance now. Like I said, you´re an interesting and inteligent fellow, just start forming a group of good friends here that like you and take their opinions, rumour discussion and yes, even inside information, as truthfull. About the other pretentious pri**s, just don´t give a damn, "trust me", I do just that and I get by. Forums will be forums, people will be people. Just have fun  PS: And I know this isn´t any of my business, I´m certainly not a mod, just a friend, so I´ll go now. Just have fun man, enjoy it

Everybody appears to be taking everything a bit too seriously.

At the end of the day, it is just a Bond film. So grab a martini, set some old John Barry lounge jazz on your speakers, kick back, and relax.

Yes, we have no idea x 5, but it can be mildly entertaining to discuss what they could do to shake up the conference "formula" of the past years.

"Daniel, you really wish you were as tall and dark as some of your predecessors, don't you?"

"Barbara, isn't it true that EON made a total bollocks of some of Fleming's novels, and that you'd really rather have one now than have to rely on the skills of hack like Purvis and Wade, and pretentious literati like Mr Haggis and Mr Morgan?"

"You really would like a second go-round with directors like Young, Hamilton and Hunt, rather than have to be condescended to by Mr Mendes just to re-esablish himself with mainsteam movie, wouldn't you?"

"Sam, are you REALLY aware of the work of Ian Fleming and what James Bond is all about?"

"To you all, wouldn't you really prefer to cast a girl with [censored]-all acting experience but a cracking body, who just go into trouble so Bond had to save her?"

"And Daniel, wouldn't it be nice to play a James Bond who wasn't in total emotional agony all the time for once?

I think, many agree on the content of this, only that you are so trying to not offend the guy, that you sorta take away the meaning by watering it down. That's a shame, because he IS shooting others down, his posts come over as very authoritarian and he DOES try to question just about everything, somebody else is posting and ends up killing the discussion. I remember well, this was a topic last year or so - somebody else wouldn't ALLOW any sort of discussion about reports, who were not waterproof true. He left...because people WANT to discuss rumors and they KNOW, its rumors. They are NOT stupid and don't NEED somebody all the time, to tell them, its all rubbish. Time will figure that out for us, what is and what is not.

I'm hoping we at least get a title reveal and a short plot summary.

I believe that's what we got last time. Although Sam Mendes reportedly want to keep things under wraps as much as possible, so we may not even get the plot summary or even character names.

I can hear it now from the reporters: "And here's Daniel Craig who is playing an unnamed character in the 23rd Bond film." :D

Well, it's probably in EON's interests to drop character names and story outlines. If they don't, it's likely that publications like The Daily Mail will go sniffing around and seek out spoilers for the sake of getting the drop on everyone else (and you know they'll expect everyone to applaud them for it).

It was probably a bad idea to link whether you disagree or don't like a particular post (all the minus-1s) and link that to a board member's "reputation." The law of unintended consequences and all that.

Like Hitchcock said: It´s just a movie! ;)
Some people just don´t know how to have fun and let other have it too.
