Hi.

I read that a James Bond fan has made an edit of Never say never again as if it was an EON movie, Never say McClory again, but I can't find it on the web. I only found this : http://fanedit.org/71/, but actually, there is no (more ?) link to get it. Do you people know where I can download (or buy) it, please ?

Thanks in advance.

You're in the right spot at fanedit.org but you need to set up an acct and then download jdownloader...
it's actually a bit of a confusing site first time you're there....
they have the OHMSS ABC edit as well and a few other good fan edits.

Yes. It's a very impressive piece of work though I wish he had left the title song over the end credits - it is a title song after all.

The creator of the edit and myself had a spirited and good natured discussion right here on CBn regarding his work. He eventually sent me a complimentary DVD as a thank you. :)

I've heard tell that if NSMcA was to reappear, the original 'NSNA' theme would be restored to its original, and rightful, place underscoring the end credits. ;)

I only hope an HD version of this terrific fanedit comes out someday. Oh, and that the author changes the obtrusive music that plays when Bond is on the horse.
If only he could read this...

By the way, I put a spanish subtitle file together for it. It can be downloaded from a website that stores them (don't know if naming it would be a problem).

Well, well, well; Drummond Grieve. Been wondering; why did you let your wonderful site lapse? It was (insert any number of superlative adjectives here)! :(

Ahhh, well; I managed to recover the bits and pieces you posted on the site through the magic of the Internet Archive Wayback Machine... thought the whole thing was lost forever, but if you're still around, and still got it, then I guess I really don't need to expend my energies on trying to reconstruct it. :)

Forgive me resurrecting an old thread but I have wanted to say that this has become something of a holy grail for me over the last few years. Alas I've only ever seen those small quicktime clips that were on the website. Any chance of seeing the full version seems to have gone. Perhaps I'm not correct to hold it in such high esteem, but everything I've seen of the project is wonderful and I really would one day love to see it in all its glory.

Back in the days of old, one could "donate" a certain amount of money and get a DVD of it as a "thank you gift", so the movie should in circulation. I thought I have it somewhere, but couldn't find it (only the ABC cut of OHMSS from the same source). But I'm sure this is available "somewhere" on the net.

That's really well done. I love that song too. Although, I think the actually Never Say Never Again would work well as a title song. It's one of the very few things I actually enjoyed about that film.

Somehow the person who did the edit put a Connery head atop a Timothy Dalton body from his gunbarrel.

That was very well done indeed.  However, I would have preferred it if some contemporary 80s Bond music was used.

Plus, it's a shame that in the freeze-frame before the title sequence Connery looks like he's struggling to squeeze one out.

Where is this? I don't remember that on my version of NSMA; I thought it was just Sean's one used.

Compare Bond's torso in the gunbarrel here:

...with the gunbarrel for The Living Daylights:

Also, with the "Connery" gunbarrel, note how Connery's head looks a bit small in profile. When he turns to fire, it doesn't look as small.

(I don't know why they're not embedding or even clickable but if you cut and paste those URLs into your browswer, you can view them).

He/she should have just done the video 1971 version. It would be much better. But yeah, Connery's head just screams "cut and paste". But other than that, the film starts great. A better way to edit this even further, would be to take out that dreadful theme in the beginning and add an action theme from one of the other Bond films. As for the opening titles, take out Kiss Kiss Bang Bang and add the unreleased version for "Never Say Never Again".

Lads, now that average data transfer speeds are greater than they were when I first shared Never Say McClory Again; and now that more-efficient video codecs are available, I feel it in my water that the time is probably right to make NSMcA available again. The former method of distribution was DVD (which incurred a cost) but this time it'll be as a self-contained downloadable file created with the h.264 (or equally efficient) codec.

At this stage the reissue will be standard-definition. Producing a high-def version would be problematic on account of how the textless Thunderball titles from the DVD were 'adapted' for the NSMcA main titles; and there's no HD version of the TB textless titles available (that I know of).

As mentioned by another contributor to this thread, the original Never Say Never Again theme song by Lani Hall will be reinstated over the end titles for the reissue.

BTW, the clip referenced several times in this thread is not from my version.

Cheers.

Just bear in mind that NSMcA is far from perfect and is actually downright clumsy at times (either visually or in alternate music choice ...or both). In other words, I strongly advise against building your expectations as you will likely be disappointed. The new 'score' works in some places, is cheesy in others, and effing crap in a couple of instances. The EQ'ing is abominable. The project seemed like a good idea at the time but was not executed as well as the premise promised (!), partly because I wearied of it toward the end. This is not self-deprecation, it is the raw truth.

I thought Never Say McClory Again was a very good effort.

However, I found parts of the score from past films, quite distracting (I know that's really quite petty).

Though that's bound to happen on first viewing, so maybe it's something you just get used to.

Anyone else think Mr Rich Douglas would be perfect to do an original score? What a calibration that would be.

I absolutely love your website, and as far as I'm concerned you may have as many of my 'baby hands' covers as you like ;) , and don't worry about crediting prominently- it's only a hobby. Incidentally, I've just posted the other movies here.

Beautiful cover, JLaidlaw! Too good for NEVER SAY NEVER AGAIN, quite frankly.

Understandable. Can imagine once the more "fun" parts (pretitle scene, titles, etc) were done, going through the rest of it must have been a bit of a slog. The score does indeed work in some places, though I remember thinking at the time (been ages since now I've watched it) that it might have been an idea to limit the selection to previous Connery movies (in keeping with the memory lane / history repeating feel. OCTOPUSSY music in NEVER SAY NEVER AGAIN? a tad jarring!). Nonetheless, a fun idea, and a commendable (and an appreciated and enjoyed) work.

I'd like to add this to the DVD section
of my 007 home-video sleeve website (www.007homevideo.com).,

Love the site, those 1996 AUS VHS covers brought back a lot of memories. I always thought these Moore covers (except for LALD, obviously, which is the same) looked better than the US, and later the AU Special Edition ones.

I like a lot of what Rich does, but you already complained out music being out of place.  Rich does all his music electronically, and has a modern sound.  It would clash incredibly with the 80s settings and visuals.

I think what made the music seem out of place, was knowing it from other films, but yes, he does have a modern sound, but I reckon he could do it.

What does everyone make of this?
