He always seemed such a normal, down to Earth guy.

He's had Wales playing the best football in years lately, seems fit, but you
just don't know what's going on in his personal life.....you just don't know

Appalling. Gary Speed was one of the mainstays of the Newcastle United team I supported growing up. Always seemed a gentleman and professional, and a role model to the younger players. For him to die so young and in such tragic circumstances is beyond comprehension.

Still shocked. A brilliant player, and one of the nicest guys in football. Naturally, my thoughts are with his family.

Shocking news. Gary Speed was a legend at every club he played at, not least at Leeds where he won the league.

He was fantastic when playing for my team Newcastle United between 1998 and 2004, and was recently doing very well as head coach of the Wales national team.

Married with 2 kids, he seemed to have it all and yet has taken his own life at just 42.
