Can't believe we don't have a thread on this. We are into day 3 of Athena007's 3-day birthday BONDATHON.

EDITED: March 3rd...

Biggest surprise so far is what a hit NSNA was. I've completely turned around on that film. Brad is making a time lapse film of all three days and our rankings (we rank after each film), so watch for that. It's been a blast so far!

I admire your patience, I find it hard enough to concentrate through one film, let alone twenty or so. ;)

Remarkable resilience to watch all Bonds in such a short timeframe still looking relatively fresh at the end. Liked the scoring broadly speaking, although the Thunderball score! Whaaat ? :)

Interesting scoring; I'd reverse the Goldfinger and Quantum of Solace scores, myself -- because if this was supposed to be an obective watch, you spoiled the whole purpose of it by giving one movie a perfect score that it in no way deserved. ;)

Nice to see that the Moore era from The Spy Who Loved Me to Octopussy ranked so high. I feel it's the best sustained run of films since Dr. No, From Russia With Love, and Goldfinger. The Brosnan era ranks highly with me as well although Die Another Day did end the winning streak.

So Athena007 any plans for a Police Academy Marathon? Let me know and I'll be on the first flight.

Respect to you guys and great video.
Its a great way to get a fair assessment and its funny how the top 5 usually end up pretty much the same however you score them. Thunderball so low though, dont agree with that one.
I'm also amazed you managed to get 2 people to stay through Golden Gun

This looked like an incredible time. Interesting perspective on the rankings when you watch them in a row. While I like DAF, going from OHMSS to DAF would be a bit of a shock to the system. The one that would have nearly killed me was CR '67. ;)

Very impressed with the video, professional and done in a short space of time.

I recall Empire Magazine doing a Bondathon, they scored the shag rating, and I recall Roger came out on top. In more ways than one :o

I'm so glad you guys came and had fun! :D Next up in May: TREKATHON!

Hope you guys had a great time, I wish I could have made it, but being a state away made it a bit difficult.

We would have loved to have had you! There are so many people I wish could have been there but alas... no one has invented a transporter yet.

Happy birthday athena, and your party looks like a lot of fun.Great movies watched but it must be a bit numb on the .............

Was a totally blast, best birthday ever! As for the ..... LOL that's why I was moving around so much! I had to! It helped me stay awake too.

Thats very community spirited. I guess they have to change between DVD and Blu-ray formats.

Unfortunately. Man, I wish all the films were on blu-ray. I have a feeling it's going to be a looooong wait.

Why is the sound off? :S

Sorry about the lack of sound on the live feed... the majority of people in attendance asked to have the sound off. We were being pretty ridiculous and silly and delirious... not sure people needed to hear that. I tried to turn it on during the title songs at least.

Very impressed with the video, professional and done in a short space of time. I recall Empire Magazine doing a Bondathon, they scored the shag rating, and I recall Roger came out on top. In more ways than one :o http://www.empireonl...y.asp?NID=19609

Thank you. Brad's the pro editor. And Cool on the Empire Mag bit; thanks for sharing that!

Zencat, you gone viral! :D

:D Welcome and thank you! I'm glad you guys enjoyed it. It just popped up on Dark Horizon's yesterday too (Tarl...you posted this as I was putting my response together), which is cool... I didn't expect this video to be such a hit; we just did this for fun for my bday. http://www.darkhoriz...s-bond-marathon

Awesome. Wish I could do that. I can't even watch 5+ Laurel & Hardy shorts without falling asleep.

5 Hour Energy Drinks and Black Black Candy: http://www.thinkgeek...ine/candy/68ad/ ...a quote from one of our attendees about the Black Black was "I just got turned on!" LOL

I admire your patience, I find it hard enough to concentrate through one film, let alone twenty or so. ;) :D

2 1/2 hours of sleep he first night and 2 hours of sleep the second night... I was really struggling during DAD... I had to close my eyes for a bit to at least give them some rest, so hard to keep them open, the movie wasn't helping either! But then I pounded some ENERGY! Thunderball (see comment below).

Thunderball: 3/10Casino Royale - 1967: 4/10What did you smoke that evening?

LOL!!! I've never cared for Thunderball actually, it falls flat for me as it just drags on and on. I was surprised I liked Never Say Never Again as much as I did considering it's the same story. Everyone has their own likes and dislikes though. :)

Very well done video! I really want to do a marathon like this!!!some of the film ratings were surprising to me!

Do it! :D Some of the film ratings were surprising to us too. Watching the films all in order as we did def gave us a different view on all the films. I'd start out watching a film knowing what I would give it having seen it many times before but then walking away with an adjusting rating. For example on TMWTGG I didn't think I would end up rating it so low... but James Bond is a dick through the entire movie and there's nothing really amazing in it that another Bond film hasn't done better. Also Moonraker is hella fun!

Such an epic event. Jealous.

Looks like you guys really had a good time. I'm soooooo jealous.......

Both of you should plan your own Bondathon! I encourage everyone to do it at least once!

Interesting scoring; I'd reverse the Goldfinger and Quantum of Solace scores, myself -- because if this was supposed to be an obective watch, you spoiled the whole purpose of it by giving one movie a perfect score that it in no way deserved. ;)

You would rate Quantum that high eh? I rated it lower that I thought i would... I mean I knew I disliked the movie but after watching Casino Royale it was even worse that I remembered. With Goldfinger I was going to rate it an 8 or 9 but in the moment of the Bondathon it got a 10 in my book. I've said this so many times but watching them back to back really adjusts the ratings you'd think you'd give the film. Was totally fun to "experience" that.

I'm a Moorist, lol. Love Moore! And I love Brosnan... DAD was worse than I remembered and I've never cared for TND much, just feels like another action movie with not much Bond. Oh and people keep mentioning Police Adademy as a marathon idea... not sure it's up our ally. But you should have one!

Respect to you guys and great video. Its a great way to get a fair assessment and its funny how the top 5 usually end up pretty much the same however you score them. Thunderball so low though, don't agree with that one. I'm also amazed you managed to get 2 people to stay through Golden Gun.

Well, I'm not sure how fair the rankings were considering we have various people flowing in and out of the house, but it was more for fun than being all official. :) But somehow I feel the films were ranked accordingly despite the flux in people. As for TMWTGG... well, that was Brad and I... we couldn't really leave our own house, LOL!

This looked like an incredible time. Interesting perspective on the rankings when you watch them in a row. While I like DAF, going from OHMSS to DAF would be a bit of a shock to the system. The one that would have nearly killed me was CR '67. ;)

That was the interesting part, how your view of the films change when watched in order. As for the '67 CR... I thought Brad was going to shoot himself during that one... and we were all drinking for it too!

A nice experiment, some surprises in the audiences appreciation although it's impossible to watch them today without some preconceptions and bias, that these films were never designed to be shown back to back probably ensures that the reactions of a marathon viewing session ican be markedly different from watching them in isolation.

I'm not overly surprised by the perception of Thunderball - the first three Bonds were tight and efficient movies TB is the first to really indulge itself with the runtime and budget, something that actually becomes a part of the franchise with increasing frequency from there on out so you become desensitised to it - many Bonds in the wake of TB could be accused of being ten minutes too long (and often were in newspaper reviews) although I am surprised it didn't feature more strongly as a negative against TWINE and CR who have more acute pacing problems imo. For all the potential criticism of QoS it certainly regains that tight and efficient feel of the earlier films and would no doubt score well after such a marathon.

Incidentally after including both unofficial versions of CR have you checked the records for the longest single franchise marathon viewing session - you may be in with a shot ^^

Zencat, you gone viral! :D

Not me. This was all Athena and Brad's doing. I was only there for a handful of films (planned to come back for CR and QOS, but I got a little too tipsy watching the Oscars). So much fun...and I think the rankings are pretty good. Watching them this way did cause you reevaluate them. As has been said, NSNA was a huge surprise. A shock, in fact. The entire room was into it, and so was I. Most of the films played better for me. Very happy to see TSWLM ranked so high (because that's where it belongs). Moonraker played great, even the outer space stuff. But that's no surprise because that movie is AWESOME! Unfortunately, FYEO and OP both played much slower. I also really thought TND would improve. It didn't. Funny thing, during TND someone made Jiffy Pop and the entire room got up and went to the kitchen to watch. Watching popcorn pop was more entertaining than TND. CR '67 ranked low but it was still a lot of fun to watch, and it was a nice break in tone. I think people liked it more than the ranking reflects.

Just watched TND and agree it hasn't improved with age, it looks quite dated now.

Now, when watching the film Brad made, I was surprised at how much everyone moves around over the course of watching a film. I am glad it's not just me. :)
