To commemorate 2011 bringing us the 30th anniversay of Licence Renewed and the highly anticipated publication of Project X, I thought we could give this another whirl.

There have been a couple of Bond 50s before (essentially a survey) - one for the top 50 moments and one for the top 50 villains - which seem to have gone down quite well - see http://commanderbond...he-bond-50.html and http://debrief.comma...ey-the-bond-50/

So, with two Literary Bond landmarks coming up in 2011....

What are the 50 best Bond Book moments? And why?

Take part in CBn's member survey - choose any five moments or passages or characters from the books - from any of the official Bond authors (i.e. not fan fiction) that you think represents the best of the written Bond. It might be a descriptive passage, a character, an event.

And have your say as to why! Could be any reason - personal to you or because you think that they represent what written Bond is all about! Brief reasons please!

To vote:

Register on the forums if you haven't done so already;
Send your selections by Private Message only to "Jim", in the format of the example below.

The deadline for selections is Midnight B.S.T. 31 January 2011.

"Dear Mr. Jim

I vote for the following as the five best literary Bond moments:

1. ....
Why?

2. ....
Why?

3. ....
Why?

4. ....
Why?

5. ....
Why?

And the best Bond book is....

Thank you for reading my choices Mr. Jim; I love you."

The countdown will be revealed during February 2011.

N.B. Twice may be the only way to live, but once is the only way to vote. And once you've selected, there's no going back, 007. The merest scintilla of vote rigging will result in really horrible things happening.

Lovely, Jim. :) I always enjoy reading the final selections.

I'll certainly be entering my favourite moments (just to be clear, three or five?).

Cool idea.
I'll definitely be giving it a try.
Though I only read Fleming, so for me it won't be from any other book than his...

Hello

Five please (sorry, a classic cut and paste typo now corrected), and a nomination for best book.

Have had some splendid suggestions already! Keep them coming.

How simply stupid of me! I missed this :( Can't wait to read it though :) How the heck did I miss it. My head must've been so far up my **** that I probably skipped it somehow. Well, any way, cant wait till it comes out.

Fantastic idea :D

Thanks folks - I have decided to extend the deadline to end of March; appreciating it may be more time consuming to review the books than look at the films for favourite moments. Can then, during April, use it to whet the appetite for Carte Blanche.

Have had some excellent - and varied and surprising - choices so far, and the leader in the best book selection is a surprising one (although that's my own preconception coming through, admittedly)

Fantastic! This is great! Thanks JIM. Will get to work on the books then. Now this is going to be fun.

Thanks too Major Tallon.

Thanks for extending, Jim.

I was going to make the deadline... I think... but this gives me the opportunity to put some more thought into my selections.

:)

Right, I've got what is required in my head and I'm now off to the books and down memory lane. Fan Fic writing can take a bleedin' break for now HA :D This is more interesting!

Thanks for the extension, and the reminder Jim.

Bit hard whittling it down to five, and as for favourite Bond book - you do like to torture us with these sorts of decisions, don't you?

Keep them coming!

I appreciate that compiling these takes a lot of work, but I hope that we may someday see the results of this survey.

Hello - yes, didn't quite get enough but more suggestions very welcome - will have to keep it open for a bit I suspect.

Oh, most interesting thingy here. Actually I'm looking pretty hard for a pretext to shelve a number of things as unimportant as earning money or contacting my estranged daughter. Think I shall use this one, seems like fun.

Can't promise to write "I love you!" Jim, I'm sitting here in this splendid place, House of Pain, Soho, and it just would not be fair to you to write you this while I'm getting the name of another woman stencilled across the whole 11.5 inches of my [censored].

Expect to hear my five suggestions by this Sunday.

EDIT: Btw, why is f o r e h e a d censored???
