Today marks the 10th anniversary of CBn. You'll be seeing quite a few changes around the site - hopefully in the not too distant future.

I'd like to thank everyone on the team for all their hard work. The site wouldn't have made it past one year without an amazing team of people to make it what it is today.

Then of course there are the visitors and members of this forum. You keep us all motivated and on our toes. We do it all for you - like us - Bond fans.

I'd like to raise a toast.

CBn. Nobody does it better. Here's to the next 10 years.

Great work, team! And The Admiral in particular. THANK YOU for all the effort.

CBn is still my favourite place on the web when it comes to James Bond. :) I think it'll always be.

Cheers!

Congratulations CBn. Easily one of the best online communities, ever.

It's made me discuss my love for Bond in a way I never thought I could. Thank you.

Cheers to everybody!

A really big thank you to the Admiral for having such an ingenious idea to create a second home for lots of us! I don't think that any other forums of any kind have this sort of atmosphere despite the number of members they have. I'm very lucky that I registered here.

May this web page last for another 10x10 years!

Happy Birthday to everyone here!

A very Happy Decade Anniversary, CBn.

To celebrate this great occasion I feel we need a bit of camel. :D

The sketch:
(In the country we an Interviewer, with microphone. Behind him a man sits on a wall, with clip-board, binoculars and spotting gear.)
Interviewer: Good evening. Tonight we're going to take a hard tough abrasive look at camel spotting. Hello.

Spotter: Hello Peter.

Interviewer: Now tell me, what exactly are you doing?

Spotter: Er well, I'm camel spotting. I'm spotting to see if there are any camels that I can spot, and put them down in my camel spotting book.

Interviewer: Good. And how many camels have you spotted so far?

Spotter: Oh, well so far Peter, up to the present moment, I've spotted nearly, ooh, nearly one.

Interviewer: Nearly one?

Spotter: Er, call it none.

Interviewer: Fine. And er how long have you been here?

Spotter: Three years.

Interviewer: So, in, er, three years you've spotted no camels?

Spotter: Yes in only three years. Er, I tell a lie, four, be fair, five. I've been camel spotting for just the seven years. Before that of course I was a Yeti Spotter.

Interviewer: A Yeti Spotter, that must have been extremely interesting.

Spotter: Oh, it was extremely interesting, very, very - quite... it was dull; dull, dull, dull, oh God it was dull. Sitting in the Waterloo waiting room. Course once you've seen one Yeti you've seen them all.

Interviewer: And have you seen them all?

Spotter: Well I've seen one. Well a little one... a picture of a... I've heard about them.

Interviewer: Well, now tell me, what do you do when you spot a camel?

Spotter: Er, I take its number.

Interviewer: Camels don't have numbers.

Spotter: Ah, well you've got to know where to look. Er, they're on the side of the engine above the piston box.

Interviewer: What?

Spotter: Ah - of course you've got to make sure it's not a dromedary. 'Cos if it's a dromedary it goes in the dromedary book.

Interviewer: Well how do you tell if it's a dromedary?

Spotter: Ah well, a dromedary has one hump and a camel has a refreshment car, buffet, and ticket collector.

Interviewer: Mr Sopwith, aren't you in fact a train Spotter?

Spotter: What?

Interviewer: Don't you in fact spot trains?

Spotter: Oh, you're no fun anymore.

(ANIMATION: Then a girl in bed. Count Dracula enters. The girl reveals her neck. The vampire goes to kiss her but his fangs fall out.)

Girl: Oh, you're no fun anymore.

(A man at the yardarm being lashed.)

Lasher:... thirty-nine... forty. All right, cut him down, Mr Fuller.

Lashee: Oh you're no fun anymore.

(Back to camel spotter.)

Spotter: Now if anybody else pinches my phrase I'll throw them under a camel.

Interviewer: (giggling) If you can spot one.

(Spotter gives him a dirty look. Knight in amour appears beside him. He hits interviewer with chicken.)

Congratulations CBn.

All the best.

Cheers,

Ian

I know that commanderbond has been around for a decade, but i want to know more. What was it like then? Who were the first members? How did the interface look over the years (Screenshots if available)?

Please tell me more, I'm interested.

I thought there was a history of CBn story on the main page once with pics of the old site, but I can't find it now.

But you can see some page via Wayback Machine.

*Grandpa Simpson voice*

"Well, back in our day, we used to get our information with cold war tactics, which was the style at the time, you know, bribery, blackmail, threats, getting piss drunk with MGM execs or blowing up somebody's car...But this dang inter-web thingy changed all of that. Now all these young whipper-snappers with their iPods, PS2's (whatever the hell those are) and facenovel crap have forced us into all this. We used to read what was printed in magazines like Starlog and Preview because it was in print and published or on Entertainment Tonight, It HAD to be true dad-gummit!"

No, somewhere around here is the "HISTORY" of how CBn evolved from a site called Blue Haze. The first time I heard of CBn was from Zencat in 2001 at BCW4 - I checked it out and joined in 2002. Haven't left...or been killed so far. It's certainly has been and continues to be a wild ride. Most of the Bond sites of the time were Brosnan fan sites whose owners were forced into becoming Bond fans and having to deal with Bond fans. Many of them vowed that when Brosnan left the role, their sites would go down. Many Brosnan fans, as we've seen have left Bond behind as well.

To each their own, but frankly, good riddence.

CommanderBond was created by Bond fans for Bond fans. That's the way it's always going to be.

Well, I'll chime in here briefly - There's a party at Scott's tomorrow after the Team's appointment at the Palace when the Admiral receives his Knighthood. The PR blackout has been a mess on that what with Sky, Fox, Larry King and Oprah all wanting a "one on one" with the Admiral, security has been tight. SAS are on standby. I swear to God, if Kim Kardashian leaves me one more voice mail asking if she "and some friends" can come to the after party....*grumble*

As the song goes "What a long, strange trip it's been".

I've had a lot of fun, some cool experiences and made some great friends.

Bond fans are forever.

Given the amount of rubbish I and others have posted here, all of whom, myself included, have more constructive pursuits, perhaps it's better as "Making little boys of men since 2000".

I have moved on from the carpet beater and knotted rope. I now have a fire axe. Any comments about my mighty chopper will be met with suitable retributive justice.

Most of the Bond sites of the time were Brosnan fan sites whose owners were forced into becoming Bond fans and having to deal with Bond fans.

Ah yes, what fun we had. Halcyon days. I wonder what happened to them?

I still have a couple of the old tablets. Wife keeps getting on to me to get rid of them. She just doesn't understand that those might be worth something some day. You know, like if we ever run out of stone or something....
