I suspect its moment may have passed.

Good news! That sequel, entitled, That Which Does Not Kill, will be out this coming August!!
Now if only David Fincher and/or whoever is going to direct would get cracking on "Fire.." and "Hornet's Nest.." Jim may be right that the time for these sequels might be passed, but I still think that Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara are still keen on getting these made.. Hopefully they can film both films at once and then the studio can release them one at a time..*fingers crossed*

I heard somewhere that the Sony leaks suggested Craig had definitively ruled himself out of returning. Interested to see who they'd opt for to replace him.
Craig is waiting on Fincher. Fincher is waiting on the budget and the script. Sony is waiting on the script (which was just turned in earlier this year and it's quite good [I read it]). Rooney is ready to go whenever, whether Fincher and/or Craig returns, she's ready.

Excellent! And lucky you that you got to read it, x007AceOfSpades! Let's hope that by the time SPECTRE is all wrapped, things will be all a-go to start production..

It was rather short, but it was still very well done and quite different than the original The Girl Who Played With Fire Swedish film. I believe the writer, is currently doing some more work to help make it flow better. The plan is to have the second and third films shot back to back and released in 2016 and 2017, respectively.

Great! I hope that Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross will return to score the films..I just love how unique their take on "Dragon Tattoo.." is..

I'm sure that as long as Fincher returns to direct, so will Reznor & Ross. I can't see any future film Fincher does being scored by another composer. The duo just fit Fincher's style so perfectly.

Oh well. Can't say I'm surprised. For what it's worth, I really liked The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. Probably my favourite non-Bond Craig movie.

Well regarding how different the final two films/books in the (current) trilogy are to the first, I can pretty much take it as a stand-alone film.
It was brave, and served a purpose and was very gripping. If it needs to end here, I'm sad we won't get to see such talent back together again, but I'm happy to let it go now rather than make a sequel and THEN struggle to do a third with so much story left open. 'TGWTDT' starts and ends perfectly as a story with no open questions.

I'm fine with them ending things where they are. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo was good, but I didn't find myself really wanting or needing a follow-up when I was done watching it. It worked well enough on its own, but I wouldn't want to see Fincher get tied down to a franchise where essentially every film is a remake.

IMO the other two aren't up the standard of 'TGWTDT' anyway so it's maybe not a bad thing.

The only reason I'd be interested in seeing the sequel is that Mara says it departs from the source material.
If anything held back the Fincher version of Dragon Tattoo, it was its adherence to the source.

Bummer! Still though we have the new book, That Which Does Not Kill, coming out and fingers crossed that Michael Nyqvist and Noomi Rapace can come back for a Swedish film adaptation..

That would be nice if they did a film adaptation of the new novel to the original series.
I'd still like the US version to continue but at this point who cares they've procrastinated long enough.
I think they should just redo the series as an HBO show when at the right time.
Anyway I'm looking forward to The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet's Nest graphic novel on July 28, 2015.
That Which Does Not Kill I feel werid about.
The books are about womans rights which is ironic because when the author died his girlfriend/common law* did not get anything because Swedish law doesn't apply unless they were married if I understand correctly. She has even wrote a book about Larsson and herself and parts of this 'holy 4th unfinshed manuscript', She claims she could finish it but is not allowed. Now we are gettinng a fourth book from someone I never heard of and I can't help but wonder if it will be less about activism and more about making a buck. No one should probably read it yet who can resist the awesome power that Larsson has created in Lisbeth Salander...

Unfortunately, it sounds like Sony also wants to film this sequel at a greatly reduced budget ... which, IMO, is the same problem the original Swedish film series had. I had hoped for Parts 2 and 3 of this series to gain its advantage by having production values that matched the first film. But even if a sequel is filmed, it sounds like that's not going to happen. Would Fincher, Mara and Craig return under those circumstances? If not, what's the point?
Having said that, I thought the third book was a rambling, drawn out, poorly edited slogfest. I stayed with it only because I was curious to see how it ended, but it read to me like an early draft, not a finished one. (And, given Larsson's unexpected death, that might have been the case.) I can see how the second and third could be made into one story. If that's to be their approach, then I hope the budget is in line with that of the first film.
