I might be wrong but that looks like the only omnibus I know of with a jacket I have never seen before. To be honest (and you guys probably will know better than me) I only thought the omnibus edition had come out in paperback. That looks like a hardback

Yes, this is a US hardback collecting ROH, NLF, and NDMB. It was preceded by another hardback (red jacket) that collected LR, FSS, and IB. Not sure of the dates. I have these here...somewhere.

There's also a UK bookclub hardcover that collected WLOD and NLF.

I believe these two omnibuses (published by Avenel) were released in 1987 and 1989, respectively.

Attached is a picture of the one with the red cover.

In your defense, these were U.S. releases.

I don't know if anybody important has been approached about this but I'm working on getting GardnerRenewed.org up and running. It's not going to be anything fancy but it'll be a good headquarters for the campaign. It'll have links to this thread/poll, Twitter, and have information on what this campaign wants to achieve.

I'll forward a link to this thread to the bigwigs at IFP at the end of the week. But I wouldn't be surprised if they've already seen it.

Now I am getting a little sick of seeing my sig banner keep popping up in this thread so I will let the place breath a little whilst I take some time out. B)

I recently bought a cheap paperback copy of Role Of Honour from Half.com to read while at university because my U.S. paperback, U.K. paperback, hardback, and library edition of the novel are at my house in Cleveland. Now that's dedication.

I re-read this article by Jeremy Duns who was lucky enough to interview John Gardner http://www.jeremydun.../LITERATURE.htm

One thing I didn't know was that the first Boysie Oakes novel The Liquidator John wrote became a film in 1965 starring Rod Taylor called by the same name as the novel. The challenge of writing Bond becomes a little harder with this in hindsight. Your a respected author in your own right with a film adaption under your belt, so writing Bond must have been a real gamble for him. From what I have read of his Bond books he did a champion job.

Am I the only person who didn't know this?

Yeah, I knew that! B)

I always liked the Boysie Oakes novels, and Understrike is one of the very few where my heart jumped into my mouth when the snake sprang out of the box!

I also really enjoyed the Herbie Krueger novels.

Thanks, DAN. The Boysie Oakes books are terrific fun, and I highly recommend them. Not seen The Liquidator, but Shirley Bassey did the song!

You must be quite an authority on John Gardner's work then SNF.

One question I have is, how much of Gardner's Bond Novels got put into the films. I hope this isnt off topic.

Well guys for the last 30 odd years I have been a professional graphic designer.
These days I design holograms (security and otherwise) for a living, but I cut my teeth so to speak in publishing and advertising. Even designed a few of my Father's book jackets in the past. If I get a moment I will see what I can do. No promises as my life recently has become rather hectic, so if someone comes up with something before I do run with it!

Hadn't realised Gardner was so anti-Benson, Spy.

"I was appalled they had chosen an American".

I think I touched on this subject with Jeremy via email in the past. It fasinated me for some reason. I was under the impression that there would be a sort of Brotherhood between, Amis, Gardner and Benson. But no, Amis slagged off Gardner in letters to his friend and in reviews. Gardner made the above comment about Benson being American. I think Benson said things about Gardner in the past etc etc. Although I think it was all taken with a pinch of salt, Gardner had done book signings at the same bookshop as Benson. Gardner was signing his Bond book and Benson was signing his bedside companin Bond book. I think their relationship was in fact fine and maybe press cuttings made more about it than it really was?

Amis was for some reason very unfair on Gardner in his review. Read more about that here http://commanderbond...liquidator.html

To put the record straight my Father & Raymond got along fine, as Dan rightly said 'pinch of salt'. Kingsley and my Father was a love hate relationship. Kingsley was Kingsley, self opinionated vain rude tendency to be drunk arrogant etc. etc. just ask his son Martin.

On Another Note:
As yet I have not had time to work on logo for GardnerRenewed, will keep you posted. As I said if anyone does one before I can get to it run with it.
