A rebooted Jaws, would have to lose the whole bitting people thing, which makes up 99.9% of the character.

A rebooted jaws is a stupid idea. I'm sure there are plenty of avenues to take when trying to create a fomidable henchman.

Nobody has brought up the biggest reason NOT to reboot Jaws, which is that using metal teeth to bite someone to death is ridiculouly inefficient and pointless. Unless Jaws is portrayed as a serial killer and this is his "signature," which would drain away any kind of humor about the character whatsoever, even the wry, subtle kind. Besides, the whole idea about being a professional killer is to be able to blend into an environment, as Bond was allowed to do in both CR and QOS. Think a guy with metal teeth is going to be able to blend in, much less get through airport security? I think Interpol would have a perpetual BOLO out on him.

Bolo is a good idea, but he must be in his seventies by now! B)

Interesting to read comments regarding Jaws being the least frightening henchman. I found him chilling in The Spy Who Loved Me, especially when he was stalking Fekkesh. When I was a kid I had nightmares for months.

Hahahahaha, same as me ;)

After rewatching No Country for Old Men, and witnessing the amazing Javier Bardem play the chilling and brilliant Anton, I can't help wonder how billiant he would be as a rebooted and up to date Jaws. Obviously he isn't as tall as Richard Kiel, but he really does have amazing screen presence. He would be perfect for the role, especially in this day and age. We all know he's in negotiations to star in Bond 23, but we don't know what role he is undertaking. If he was cast as Jaws, I would be thrilled.

Maybe during the PTS, Bond is sent to assassinate Zbigniew Krycsiwiki (Obviously he isn't Jaws yet, he has normal features), but after a rather violent fist fight, Bond savagely attacks Zbigniew, leaving his jaw and mouth disfigured and leaves the scene, believing his mission to be completed and Zbigniew to be dead. However, Quantum come across Zbigniew, who is bleeding heavily and close to death. (Quantum are after Bond, following the events of Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace).

Believing Zbigniew to be a strong asset, Quantum take him to their headquarters, and fit him with razor sharp teeth, and use him as a human guinea pig, testing his strength and mental stability. After totally brainwashing Zbigniew, Quantum eventually send him out in the field to do their dirty work. Zbigniew coins the nickname of 'Jaws', after a number of serial killings have been made with bite marks in the necks of the victims. Zbigniews calling card. This Jaws is lethal, and not the comic book character from the 70's. Like No Country for Old Men, Bardem will be creepy as hell.

Oddly enough, a film reviewer here in the UK said that, for him, one of the reasons Daniel Craig's portrayal of Bond worked was that you could easily imagine him as a Bond villain. Did he have Shaw's portrayal of Grant in mind, I wonder?

Now, if they could re-boot Red Grant, the old Moon mad killer himself.......!!

Red Grant, the blond killer in YOLT and Necros from TLD all seem to inspire the casting of Craig in my opinion. After Grant, the films tried a lot of blond, no nonsense anti-Bond's... which is what makes Craig so fresh and also controversial as James Bond.

But on the subject of a new Jaws... I wouldn't like to see Jaws reproduced as a second version. If the EON series reconnects this current series with the original 21 films, then I would like to see Jaws return. Carrying on the history Bond and Jaws already have, but pplaying it seriously and as gritty as possible.

A seven foot, silent, nearly impossible to kill character? Yes.
A seven foot character with metal teeth and the nickname Jaws? No.

Funny that the pic of Bardem was posted about a year ago. I remember initially seeing it and thinking "That would be the day." Well...look what we may have here!

I'd say it is possible to 'reboot' JAWS, but it's going to take a lot of figuring out.

One possibility I came up with :- "Jaws" could be a vicious bare knuckle street fighter whom Quantum (or whoever) use to earn money on the side by gambling on him to win high stakes fights against the world's hardest men. This would account for the loss of his teeth, smashed out in fights over the years. Now, he has a set of titanium teeth - as biting is perfectly legal in the fights he's involved in. "Jaws" could be his fighting nickname.

I think it could work, they would just need to find the exact right person for this role.

Why not just come up with new original henchmen instead? Like they did in creating a new villain in Silva. Leave Jaws in the past. I think the core character concept is too outdated to be successfully updated. Having a man bite through things with metal teeth is something that could only work during the Roger Moore era.

Agree. No need to rake up characters from past Bond movies. Just create new ones that fit in with our times.

But in light of all that "don't bring back old characters", they did with Felix and he worked for Craig's Bond in 'Casino Royale' and I just love the idea of a new version of Jaws for a new generation but they would HAVE to do it faithfully - no half man/half robot faced goon - a hulking giant with sheer metal teeth, but maybe a bit more disfiguration due to possible torture or injury around the mouth/chin.

I'd love to see something like that for a new Bond.
