I think we have to make one thing clear here, because it seems we've confused something! Bond isn't a banker or a wealthy bussisensman! He's an agent! He doesn't have a quarter of a million to lose in every film! In Casino Royale he was financed by the treasury! He didn't have that many to stake! In many films we see him playing for pleasure small amounts! I think poker as you probably have it in your mind is not for Bond, unless the money isn't his! I agree that big enemies are wealthy and ususally they play high-stakes games, but we can't see Bond been financed by the government every time! In addition, it'd be a little fake for a small agent to stake so big amounts by his own!

So I take it he shouldn't play baccarat either?

With the gambling scenes we got in CR, I'm not so sure that people's common knowledge about Poker helped to improve the film. Even people who never play Poker laughed at the totally outlandish hands. Le Chiffre is so skilled that he somehow knows that the opponent has a 17.6% of winning... yet his eye shudder everytime he bluff! For the last hand, everyone (!) go all-in after the river (!!) and each new player beats the one before him (!!!). Ludicrous.

I'm not saying the poker scenes in CR were particularly well-done. I'm saying that poker is a better game to have in a film. The poker in CR was mostly poorly done. It's actually not so ludicrous that le Chiffre would know his opponents odds of winning. Calculating odds in poker isn't particularly complicated. What is stupid is that he would TELL his opponent that. If his opponent is on a straight draw, he should want a call with one card to come.
Not everyone has a tell. That's just god damn ridiculous.
The poker scene in the Bahamas was well-done. The whole big game was mostly poorly done.

Hold em is a game where u have to sit and play for a wile and suss out your opponents.
I think they probably wont have another casino scene where Craig plays poker.
A card game where he can just sit in, say something witty, win and then leave might be on the cards.

I think you didn't understand what I'm trying to say here!

You said that Bond should stick woth Poker! You also mentioned that there's a game in which you need a quarter of a million just to join the game! Bond doesn't have that money to lose! He's a government agent, he's not a wealthy bussinessman!

In baccarat, we've seen Bond playing one game or even two and not betting that huge amount of money! If you remember in On Her Majesty's Secret Service Bond joins the table with only a few money! That's my point! It looks more real for Bond to play low-stakes games!

A large part of the argument many people were making for baccarat was that it is "high-class" and "exclusive". Now you are saying that it's better to have baccarat because it's lower stakes than poker. You're undercutting the whole argument for baccarat.

As an aside, I was watching a table stacked with pros on fulltilt poker last night. The largest pot that I saw was $150,000+ US. I was impressed.

OK; I agree on that one, but how long does a Poker game last?
