I hope Wright will reprise his role. Now both Lighters and Bonds positition within their organizations and their relation with eachother is established it's time for some fun!

Leiter not Lighter.

Well, Bond´s lighter always accompanied him back then when he was a smoker.

I hope Wright will reprise his role.

If he does, it won't be in SKYFALL. There is apparently no need for Felix in the script, and I'd much rather they leave him out than shoehorn him in - which is what Jeffrey Deaver did in CARTE BLANCHE (though I suspect IFP told him to include Leiter).

Can you send me a copy of that script you have Cap? :D Just kidding, yeah, you´re right, doesn´t seem to be much use for Felix in this one. So what? He wasn´t in all of the novels and he wasn´t in all of the films. So, I do agree with you, no shoehorning characters just for the sake of it, please.

Doesn't reflect well on either party, that, does it:

IFP: "Jeffrey, old boy, you really must find a way to get Felix Leiter into your book. Those chappies on your side of the Pond aren't going to be happy if we don't include James Bond's American equivalent (!!!!!!). And we do need those US sales. You DO understand, old boy, don't you?"

JD: "Of course. You're quite tight. I perfectly understand. I'll easily fit him in using the in depth research and plot twists for which I am famously well-known" (And then looks vacantly, realising he is a literary whore just hired for the money who is just shoe-horning unnecassary characters into a story at the behest of his employers.)

;)

Deaver wrote the first book in "Project X". The idea behind the project was to have well-known authors write each new installment using the same characters set in the same universe. IFP obviously wanted one interpretation of every major character for consistency between the books. So whoever writes the next book in the series will write Leiter as a blond-haired Texan who prefers working through field operatives than being directly in the field itself. It was a little clumsy in CARTE BLANCHE, but it's to set up future books.
