Maybe not strictly a spy film, but I thought it might be of interest seeing as there's a thread here dedicate to the Harry Palmer films, and another dedicated to Taken, to which this sounds very similar. In fact this pretty much sounds like his Taken, even if he is a few decades older than Neeson; the plot is simply described on IMBD as "an elderly ex-serviceman and widower looks to avenge his best friend's murder by doling out his own form of justice".

I'm a big Caine fan, and this has the potential to be a blast. Hopefull it be either a bit less dour or a bit less risible than Taken, and feature better camerawork and editing.

Could be really cool. Caine being Caine, and not Neeson, I’m already more curious about this that I was for TAKEN. In order to see this through to success, I think the director would be well served to think of this as the article describes - an ‘urban Western’ – as opposed to staging it as yet another Bourne contender.

Caines’ Brown’s toughness should come from within, not from without. Let the man act his wrath upon the poor fools that draw first blood.

Michael Caine to me is as much a symbol of the UK as James Bond. Really looking forward to this movie, though because 'small' British movies often don't make it to Asia, I might have to watch the DVD. Same thing happened to Guy Ritchie's Rock'n'Rolla.

This movie sounds rather somewhat badass, by the way.

I think, if only from that photo, that the baggage Caine brings to a role like this will make it work. One part Harry Palmer mixed with two parts Jack Carter, and maybe a dash of that bloke he played in The Fourth Protocol. Similarly in many ways to Clint in Gran Torino perhaps.

Seeing something like this makes you wonder if maybe Big Tam could do the same.

Here's the trailer:

Despite the Death Wish 3 echos, I wasn't that impressed on my first viewing. There's a bit of a Nick Love vibe I could certainly do without. On second viewing I enjoyed it more and actually got a bit excited about the idea of seeing it.

Looks like they should have done this around '95 instead of the two Palmer Files.

Looks pretty damn brilliant to me. Hope it gets a US release, seeing as IMDB only has one for the UK.

Very good looking. Trouble is I now feel I've watched at least the first hour of the movie. Whatever happened to trailers that teased rather than showed the entire plot?

I'm really a bit angry that one didn't come along 10-15 years earlier, around the time of 'Blue Ice'. If it's actually as good as this trailer promises, then I can only imagine what Cain around 60 might have made of it. I suppose his age is a necessary plot element here, keeping him above initial suspicion. But it's also bordering on the very fringes of being believable.

Rumour has it that's what is happening in practically every major city (and a good deal of the minor ones too) throughout Western Europe for quite some time now. So they might have picked up on the situation a little earlier.

Anyway, better late than never.

Why look a gift horse in the mouth? It might have been better if he'd made it when he was 60, and it might have been worse. It was made by Caine recently, and I intend to see it when it comes out, whether it will be good or bad, we'll see.

YES! As much as the trailer shows, I predict we’re only getting a sliver of what Caine has to offer.

I notice it’s got a bit of that Brit youth punk demographic that Loomis’ loves about EDEN LAKE. That, opposite Caine’s age, offers a nice contrast, so no complaints about the timing on this one at all from me.

No offence to Liam, but HARRY’s gonna clean the floor with TAKEN. There's some heart in this one.

Well, we shall see what we shall see. I too wish that Caine had been able to do this at 60. But if they stick to their guns, and the theme of the film, this may prove to be a corker, evoking dim memories of the magnificent young tough guy, never rougher than in Get Carter.
