So really, for no reason at all then.Mission Impossible III was actually really good. Unfortunately I have a feeling this film won't be anything like that one. (I only say this so far because of the ridiculous title and no Michelle Monaghan.)

I've seen a few bits of Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol and I think it looks pretty darn good.
I hope so, since I think it's the only Hollywood blockbuster that'll get me into a cinema this year.
I like all the M:I movies (truth be told, though, I don't really love any of them), and with Brad Bird at the helm and Jeremy Renner as the (co-) lead I've long had faith in GHOST PROTOCOL.
When's the teaser trailer out? Can't be too far away.

In JJ Abram's hands, it's just become a feature length episode of ALIAS, with all of its trendy banalities. Third rate television passing for cinema.

The first and second films were mildly entertaining, but really nothing special. I've never seen the third and really have no interest in it.
Plus, Tom Cruise has come off as big dick in the press the last several years. One of those guys who thinks he's better than everyone else and exploits less-fortunate people. Not saying it's all 100% true, but it's not like it's been one source and one media outlet reporting all these things.

To be absolutely honest, I think it looks pretty damned awesome. Until about the halfway mark, it struck me as far grittier and more stylish than I'd expected (rather like a Bourne'd-up MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE flick), but the second half has a very similar flavour to MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE III (not that I'm complaining, for I like M:I-III).

Looks like Renner stepped into the role Jonathan Rhys-Meyers had in the last movie; wonder what made Rhys-Meyers turn this one down, then?
Also, I know he's the producer, main creative force behind this, etc., but someone needs to tell Tom Cruise he shouldn't have reverted to the M:I2 look; it does not look good on him.
That said, seems Brad Bird is movin' on up, and with some panache; I've got no complaints.

Also, it was a bit weird to hear Eminem's Won't Back Down in the trailer. I mean, the bridge with Pink is good; it sounds like it belongs in an action film, or at least in the trailer to one. But it featured so heavily in the promotional material for Call of Duty: Black Ops that it's just out of place elsewhere.
Anyway, does anyone speak French fluently enough to be able to translate the trailer?

Now, there's something I never thought I'd see: Simon Pegg with a gun. I'm impressed.
Have you ever seen 'Hot Fuzz'? All I can do is picture Simon Pegg with like 20 guns.

Say what you like about the man Cruise, you can't deny he's got balls for sitting on top of the Burj Khalifa!
And he even swings off it too: yikes.

I wouldn't go writing Renner off as a Rhys-Davies clone. Early rumours suggested that GHOST PROTOCOL would be Cruise's last film in the MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE franchise, with Renner's character, Brandt, picking up the reins as the main character in future films. I don't know how true these rumours are, but if they are true, then GHOST PROTOCOL would serve as the transition film. So I'd expect Renner to be less of a team member and more of a character with equal billing to Ethan Hunt.
Yeah, I think that's the plan. But even if it isn't, it seems safe to say that Renner's role will be larger and (not that this is saying much) more memorable than Rhys-Meyers' turn in III. (I note, though, that Cruise is still the only cast member with above-the-title billing - check out the credits at the end of this teaser trailer.)
Renner seems to have a Daniel Craig quality about him, and check out his action scenes in this trailer - he seems to throw himself into the action with all the intensity of Stallone in FIRST BLOOD. There'll be some proper excitement in this new M:I flick, you mark my words!
I do hope that Renner also ends up starring in THE BOURNE LEGACY, as has been rumoured (not sure whether his involvement has been confirmed).
Oh, and is it just me, or is Cruise far more bulked-up in this flick than we've ever seen him before? He looks so musclebound he could be co-starring in EXPENDABLES II (hey, that's a thought).

Just curious, Mharkin, if you hated them so much, what made you come back for more, each time?Hated the first 3. This looks like some kind of improvement.
Just as well there's no new Rambo or Rocky, Loomis and that The Expendables II: Black Chopstix is coming out next year......I think it's the only Hollywood blockbuster that'll get me into a cinema this year.
Yeah, I heard Renner was also the new Bourne agent.
His appearance in MI:GP will be very meta!
MI:2's my fave!

Personally, I think he is a first rate actor, a first rate screen presence, he has the looks and there is no denying he simply throws himself into untold dangers for his action scenes. It is a supremely credible work ethic that has no equal.
And if he jumps around on sofas from time to time, so what. Why is moderation in today's times considered the Only way forward, and yet in the same breath we lament the passing of yesterday's hell raising actors who left their stories on us? It screams of crashing double standards.
Did anyone see Cruise's moment on Top Gear? The element of the UK programme whereby a star races round a track in a shopping car (Kia?). He had it on two side wheels in efforts to get a good race time. Superb stuff. Deserves his success, and continue to wish him well.
And I will certainly see MI4.

Thought so, too. May also have to do with him taking aim at Jack Reacher in the near future if rumour is to be believed.

Same here. I know it's derided as the MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN of the M:I franchise, but I find it a real blast.

Now, if I were Jeremy Renner, I'd be a bit wary of appearing in a movie with Tom Cruise, especially considering the Church he's affliliated with has supported anti-gay marriage laws... and Cruise himself is so deep in the closet, it's a wonder Renner didn't smack him around a bit to make him come to his senses.
