Delay with Bond 23...Xmas 2011

Two issues are discussed in four items originally published by the “RICK SHAW NEWS SERVICE" based in Tokyo. The first of the “JAMES BOND 007 IN BIG TROUBLE HERE” items talk about the threats of Sony, UA, and Danjak against Brenda Wise Consulting for her quest to commercially market Bond caricatures by illustrator Ian Baker.
Then, the articles allegedly say the companies behind the Bond films are in big trouble, and claim even Michael G. Wilson may be on his way out. Further, the writer says financial woes are behind the delay of the next James Bond 007 film until Christmas of 2011.
“While Bond producers, Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli “insist they are taking a rest from Bond," the truth is more 'strategic and logistical.' Sony owes the Broccoli owned 'Danjaq, LLC' roughly $300,000,000 for their last two Daniel Craig films. “Evidently, Sony Pictures 'paid its bills' with Broccoli money," said one source at the Sony Studio in Culver City, California. “That is why Sony is offering Danjaq, LLC two outside pictures, one of which will be a remake of “CHITTY, CHITTY, BANG, BANG," the 1968 classic, which starred DICK VAN DYKE as Hirotomus Potts and was produced by Danjaq co-founder, James
Bond producer, ALBERT R. BROCCOLI.
“The two pictures will mean Sony may get away with only paying Danjaq about $170,000,000 on the $300,000,000 they owe them, especially if the two outside Bond films should tank. We believe the Sony team is counting on 'Chitty, Chitty, Bang, Bang' and their other film, a thriller — to go down the tubes."

Ahh..I'm in no way giving any credit to this story...I don't believe it for one second...I've fallen for too many BS rumors about Bond over the years and have learned to guard myself from suspicious stories like this..

look I don't believe this for a second. MGW may be tired but he isn't his way out of the franchise for anything espeically keeping strong though the 80's and 90's
next this idea that Danjac is bankrupt after 2 succesfull films in quick succesion. Don't belive that
Sorry this a pure BS rumour but we i suppose have our first relase date rumour with bond 23 Christmas 2011.
oh and Dan was upset because babs said
Babs "look we've decide to go with another fleming title and we're not going to release the trailer untill 2 months before release"
Dan "hmm ok"
Babs "and u have to be topless again and we're going with another title most will hate your next bond film is 'the hildebrand rarity'"
Dan "Topless again i'll never get to enjoy mcdonalds again and what does the hildebrand rarity mean anyways"
that is why he looks so bummed LMAO
(p.s. I love the Hildebrand rarity but i'm well aware of it's flaws)

of course i am afraid I love Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace and i fear like Dalton (my fav before Craig showed up) I'll only get 2 bond films before some modal turned actor plays a flashy but ultimatly pointless 007 (brosnan was good in goldeneye the rest of his films uhm.... moving right along) well i loved Casino and Quantum.

1. Sony owes Danjaq money.
2. Sony offers Danjaq two stinkers.
Why does Danjaq accept this deal?

Not for a minute. We'll see Bond 23 in 2010.
I prefer facts to speculation.

It seems like a dirty trick.
EON should bail out of Remote Control and The Chitty remake now, and get Sony to pay the full money they owe them.

Bryce, if ever you're in London, I'll buy you a few pints (and maybe a bag of crisps but I am not promising anything)

Good point. No need to worry.Bond's back with MGM now, anyway. So I don't see why anything connected to Sony would put a spanner in the works for the next film.

Not to sound like an ignoramous, but didn't the writers of the original posted article not take that into consideration? I know how off base reports can be but not to understand that seems more than a little idiotic by them.
No offence to you my friends.

I had always assumed Quantum would be the last Bond film to do with Sony (and was somewhat disappointed, as I've enjoyed the last two they've helped produce) - thus, how would Sony's financial problems impact Bond 23? Obviously I'm wrong. Clarification from someone in the know would be wonderful.

Thanks. The second round will be on me though. As to London, well, you never know when or where I'll turn up.
Again, as to this matter, the politics are certainly an issue, but Sony/Columbia isn't one to bite the hand that feeds them. BB and MGW are too long in the game and experienced. If Sony fumbles, the other "big six" will gobble up the Bond franchise in a heartbeat with gilded gardens and Sony/Columbia will be kicking themselves for eternity and a day.
IMO, tomatoes and enquirer go hand in hand for news. If you can call their tripe news. Either way, it's just spoiled fruit.
Ask yourself this: How many times have the tomatoes built up buzz just with hype? How many time have the enquirer been sued and lost or had to settle out?
'nuff said.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I always remember hearing Sony had a maximum 2-picture contract to deal with MGM on the Bond films...now, was MGM bought out by Sony entirely at some point? Does Sony own MGM? Did I miss something? I'm just not up on where the ownership actually lies at this point.
You're completely sane.
This is how I see it, Sony signed a two picture deal with EON/Danjac, they made Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace, both very sucessfull additions to the franchise. The contract expired, simple as that.
Broccoli and Wilson are working with Sony on this other non Bond project. Which, IMO, is a waste of time really. I mean, why now? Why specifically now? Couldn't they not wait untill Craig finished his run as Bond? It's very odd to decide to make a non-Bond movie, so near the 50th Anniversary of the franchise. If I were EON, I would scrap that AND the Chitty Chitty Bang Bang remake, just for now, untill Craig finishes, allowing time for another lenghthy break and for them to work on other projects.

I fully agree! Dump the Chitty Chitty Bang Bang thing, make two Bond films (2010-2012), end Craig as Bond in the 50th anniversary and then we discuss everything! Don't screw the work that has been done in the last 3 years!

I personally would be more concerned about MGM's financial woes - which have been part and parcel of their history for decades - but are obviously accelerated in these financially delicate times. Whether Eon Productions makes REMOTE CONTROL or not is no-one's business and not a sign of anything other than the honouring of a deal set up a few years back that enables Eon to develop and nurture some non Bond projects. The remake of CHITTY CHITTY BANG BANG was no doubt on the cards since the highly successful stage revival launched in 2001.
The 50th Anniversary means nothing. It is obviously something that Eon themselves will no doubt honour (which incidentally does not have to involve any public led events or films) but that does not have to be with a film.
I would also not be too concerned right now with an unfounded report that cannot even spell Danjaq correctly and that has not even been repeated or reflected in other fiscally-led media outlets. And when is the film community on the internet going to understand and realise that Rotten Tomatoes is not some sage-like orator of movie news and business and as prone to forum speculation as anything else run by people who are not in the know yet let chinese whispers over the internet say otherwise.
And for the record, when Daniel Craig goes for dinner with his friends and colleagues that means very little regarding the future and cinematic security of James Bond 007.

Ummm...and that would pertain to me too in my headline. Sorry about making such a fundamental mistake.
