Weren't the final bids meant to be in a month ago?

There's been extensions.

As I think I've said (maybe even somewhere in this thread), at the end of the day I believe Sony will remain in the Bond business not matter what happens to MGM. Not just because Sony wants it, but I think Eon wants it as well.

But most Bond customers who keep getting ripped off by Sony and their shoddy DVD/Blu Ray releases don't.

But Fox does the Bond DVDs. Or do you mean Sony DVDs in general?

I'm not talking about home video anyway. I'm talking about the production ranks. From the outside, it seems Sony and Eon work well together. And Sony is a good studio.

SONY still might be the best bet. They are among the creditors, so part of the whole deal would end up in their books anyway. They apparently have a decent relationship to EON and they have shown some stability and trust in going with EON's last two films. I feel a bit let down by their decision to reboot SPIDERMAN, but for the Bond series they are probably the best partner among the potential bidders. I wouldn't mind seeing them at EON's side from now.

I know for a fact I'm clueless. You two just suppose you are. You can't prove it.

Therefore, my cluelessness is more substantiated than yours. It's insider-cluelessness, practically speaking, based on absolutely no clue whatsoever. As cluelessness goes, mine is surely the most uninformed kind of.

You forget that MGM did the same thing with the earlier Bond movies. They released most of them on a bare bones DVD, then the Special Edition DVDs than the Ultimate Edition DVDs. That is something EVERY studio is guilty of.

In consecutive year?

Besides, nobody's answered my question about the posters.

You are right, Shark. The posters sucketh.

Did a different group do the 3-disc Casino Royale set? The cover picture of Bond at the card table with his gun in the shadows is just about the coolest thing I've ever seen. Why the hell didn't they make that the foundation of their poster campaign?

Ya, the poster for QoS is pretty boring, but I do like the poster for Casino Royale better than the TWINE or DAD posters.

Like I mentioned in the other thread about this topic MGM released Quantum of Solace on DVD/Blu-ray though 20th Century Fox, Sony had nothing to do with the home video release of the film. I do want to ask what was the last Bond poster you liked?

I have to agree with you. IMO TLD was the last really good Bond poster (although I do like the CR one as well). However you have been arguing that SONY is responsible for the poor Bond posters yet you don't like the last few MGM posters either.

I thought the CR teaser poster was beautiful. One of the best Bond posters ever, imo. I don't how any Bond fan couldn't love this.

Yeah, I always loved that AVTAK Eiffel Tower one-sheet as well. I remember the day I got the call from my buddy who Collectors Bookstore that the first AVTAK poster had come in. When he rolled that out before my eyes, I could hardly believe it. I'm going to go gaze at it right now, in fact.

Of course this whole argument of liking or not liking a studio based on a DVD release or a poster is all rather silly. Clearly both MGM and SONY have been responsible for poor posters and DVD releases. I just want a studio that will treat Bond with respect and hurry up and get Bond 23 off the ground, and give EON the creative control they need.

While I'm not a big fan of the Brosnan posters, I'd agree there quite a few degrees better than the Craig ones.

I like these teaser posters a lot:

Thanks. I think people are using DVDs and posters as an excuse to say why they do or don't like a certain studio. I think it really boils down to those that like the series with Craig supporting Sony and those that preferred the Brosnan films against Sony.

It has been stated in the past that MGM made EON make a certain type of Bond film during the 90s. They wanted to play it safe like they had a check list of every Bond cliche that had to be in every film. Sony let the producers try something a little different and experiment a bit. Love it or hate it, I kind of look at QoS similar to Fleming's TSWLM. They wanted to try something different to see how well it would work. After 40+ years and 20+ films, remaking Goldfinger over and over again probably gets a little boring.

You've got it all wrong, for me at least. I detest nearly all of the Brosnan films along with QoS, and I'm a fan of CR.

It really is a simple as posters and DVD releases for me.

Back on topic...

Deadline is now Monday. Here's what Nikki just posted.

Look, almost everyone believes -- and has for some time -- that this is going to be a busted auction at the end of the day...

It wouldn't surprise me at all if the problems with this auction is that MGM can't guarantee the buyer Bond. The Bond deal is just so complex. Remember when Sony bought MGM, Bond was negotiated outside the main deal and after. Maybe all you get for your billions is the chance to sit down with Eon and plead the case why your company would be a good partner. But this is just a guess. Again, I sure this whole thing is just so incredibly complicated that even the people involved are somewhat in the weeds.

It's a truly great poster! I'm glad it was included in The Official James Bond 007 Movie Poster Book that came out last century. You know, the century where really decent movie posters were created.

I´m afraid you are absolutely right - and this situation will still take a long time to be sorted out. Long enough for Craig to do a Dalton-like exit... B)
