Vertigo

Hypnotic, and my favorite Hitchcock film and every time I watch it I pick up something different and get hooked to Benard Hermann's haunting score.

Casablanca
Gone with the Wind
Schindler's List

This list is probably going to change, but I REALLY like Casablanca! GWTW is a little long, but it's very good. If I could add a fourth, I'd add Dark Knight.

The Godfather

Schindler's List

The Godfather has to be the best crafted movie ever! (IMHO)

I think that this is the best way to go about making a list like this. I also agree with you on JAWS being one of the films belonging on such a list. My list would be:

JAWS
INTO THE WILD
HEAT

Bridge on the River Kwai, Casablanca, The Great Escape. My three favorite films of all time, and just positively amazing works of cinema. But then, I've always been a sucker for vintage films. Starting with films of the 1930s, particularly Merian C Cooper's work in the 30s (yes, even King Kong, I love that old relic), all the way up to 1969 is the golden age of cinema, as far as I'm concerned.

Hmmm . . . although I don't believe that a perfect movie exists, perhaps I can think of three that come close for me:

"L.A. CONFIDENTIAL" (1997)

"SOME LIKE IT HOT" (1959)

"CHINATOWN" (1974)

Once Upon A Time In The West
On Her Majesty's Secret Service

and
Anatomy Of A Murder

Not my absolute top 3 (but close), but films which just maximise their perfection.
