The Cat: if every cue exists, why does your bootleg of The Spy Who Loved Me contain tracks with sound effects in with poor sound quality? Surely a master such as yourself would have access to these clean cues?

Perhaps now you know why - and I think you know how I feel about posting these kind of things on public message boards. I'm not sure what good it is to trick people into believing the existence of things that are not there. Somebody might think "wow, alternative recordings from the OHMSS score, I must have that" - and imagine the disappointment that somebody when realizes he is listening to cues taken from the Prague re-recording compilations.

If you really post this for reference only as you claim, than you should turn it into something more useful instead of oblique track titles, "suites" and "alternative recordings". Now it's just something people get excited about. I could tell what each cue is from the list alone (or explain what "film version" actually mean), but not everyone is capable of that feat.

To show you all I mean what I say and I do what I claim (BlofeldTM), I give you a chance to test me in a Private Message. I know I myself can be guilty of teasing people with my obscure references so here's your chance to get to know the truth.

Hey, I'M not tricking anyone OK? I posted some track titles, none of which I think are particularly oblique. All anyone has to do is ask me what track X is and I will tell them. I'm not fooling anyone, unlike some people on here. You yourself said you do it! I do not. So please dont accuse me of something Im not guilty of.

And you didnt answer my question - what about that Spy Who Loved Me bootleg you compiled? You told me yourself it wasnt clean, and sent me some demo MP3 tracks from it that had sound effects in them.

At least all my scores have clean unreleased music on them!

You might not look at things that way, but from the PMs I get on this subject, let's just say people have really vivid imaginations on what these things are. Some titles are oblique - "GoldenEye Mood Suite" etc. This could be cleared a bit, just a suggestion. And for many people, this just looks like a tease - whether you want that or not. It's not something we want - it's just part of the job.

And you didnt answer my question - what about that Spy Who Loved Me bootleg you compiled? You told me yourself it wasnt clean, and sent me some demo MP3 tracks from it that had sound effects in them.

I told you it had effects in them. And what I sent had effects. Clean situation. Let's just say I'm always that cautious.

Yes, there is an expanded MWTGG. Its not got a lot of new stuff on, the interesting points are the rejected title song and some film versions of cues.

LOL a rejected title song for TMWTGG :(

The linear notes inside the CD case explain this track. I think aside from that track name, the others arent very oblique or vague.

Well sadly, you dont have access to the clean recordings, which is why they werent clean on the CD you have.

One day perhaps, a record company will give us our due.

In return for what?

If you upload a short track (no matter how short it is) that can prove what you are saying, then people will believe you. That's what you will get back.

A question about the Criterion laserdiscs: which Bond films included isolated music tracks? I read Dr. No, FRWL and Goldfinger did, but are there any others?

Gav, would you consider adding the tracklists and cover art for these albums to www.soundtrackcollector.com for archival purposes?

Sure, I could do that. Great idea! Better than me posting them here.

The Criterion LDs with isolated music AND FX tracks are only Goldfinger, as far as I know, but I could be wrong. I have fan-made DVD transfers of these LDs and only GF has the ISO on it.

Not Banned Bond: The Criterion DVD Collection by any chance?

http://originaltrilo...DVD/topic/3446/

Can't find a download link for that, unfortunately.

Regarding the Goldfinger LD, are the FX and music tracks in good quality? I ask because Goldfinger was of course released in mono back in 1964, so I guess one would need some good audio resources apart from the film audio to create those tracks.

Theyre not THAT bad, really. A little hissy, but for someone like me who works with audio daily a bit of remastering goes a long way.

You did ask before but thats OK :( Its not on there, as you can see. Its expanded, not complete.

Heh- sorry; I forget what I have and haven't asked! Shame it's not there; I think that's the standout missing track for me.

Is there a decent Moonraker? I downloaded one extended version but it was pretty shocking quality. Gives you an idea of what is missing, though.

Too bad your Thunderball bootleg doesn't have the alternate "Street Chase" which uses "Mr. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang" instead of the "007" theme.

I don't. Lukas Kendall wrote about it Film Score Monthly several years ago when he was writing about the Bond albums he worked on.

I think there was only one take of it, there were some performance errors and there wasn't room on the disc for it.

No, none of whats on my 2CD of TB is from a DVD. As for the other bootlegs out there, I cant speak for them as I dont have them.

And if its not used in the film, how could you rip it from the DVD anyway?

This is my newest addition to my Bond library, I just got it in today. I thought I'd post images for once, in case anyone thinks I'm bluffing about all these by just posting track names and what have you.

Hi Gav,
Interesting how films like AVTAK and TWSLM seem to contain WAY more unreleased music than your cd's. Where's the extra pretitle music in AVTAK for instance, or the Eifel tower cue, the fight music at Stacey's place, or the music heard when the mine is flooded? Hmmmm... probably it wasn't possible to rip it from the dvd :-)
Interesting also that your TSWLM cd has only 7 minutes of unreleased music, while the movie has 30 minutes of same.
Wanna hear it? Just visit my "Bond smells a rat" site.
Nice to know you bought some nicely packaged bootlegs with some music ripped from dvd, and a few cues from Nic Raine's rerecordings. Now leave us in peace ;-)

TSWLM bootleg has a lot more than 7 mins of unreleased music, lol. Goodness knows where you got that from.

And again, since people on here and clearly not clued-up on underground score releases, expanded DOES NOT mean complete. It means "extra music". If they were complete, or recording sessions, Id call them as such.

With regards to DVD rips, I tried getting some from the DVDs but how the gunbarrel on AVTAK isnt possible to get from the DVD due to sound effects? Yet its clean on my CD.

I'll visit your site if you have a link?

Unfortunately, the Spy Who Loved Me CD pictures seals the "BS" deal.

Most- if not all- of the 'extra' tracks are either CD retitles or DVD-rips- you can tell because there's some extra and some missing- the extra is tracks where the movie pretty much has no SFX, the missing is where there is.

Tracks are as follows:

3, 4, 7, 8, 9, 10, 18, 20, 23, 24 = CD tracks, some edits of CD tracks maybe with DVD-rips edited in
1, 2, 4, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 19, 21, 22 = almost all DVD-rips where SFX are low, maybe a couple are something else but I doubt it.

You can also see that almost all of the music from the second half of the movie is missing from this 'expanded' release- maybe that's because it's the action bits that are SFX-heavy.

I much prefer hearing all the tracks from my good friend The Cat- and I'd like to take the opportunity to thank him for saving such an excellent lost score.
Might have to go listen to it now actually! I love that Sardinia track, an accordion instrumental version of "Nobody Does It Better".

Sorry to be an old cynic but it gripes me when people go nuts over someone with DVD bootlegs but forget about the real Bond heroes like The Cat.
