I don't see any bickering going on. This is a place for the discussion of James Bond and if people don't like it they're more than allowed to say so, as long as they respect other peoples opinions and don't try and force their own down someone else throat.
A new day and I've listened to it again. What do I think? I still don't like it. It's too electronic for me. I don't mind electronic music, but for me the voice-edited electronics has just gone too far. I'd go as far as to say this is the sort of song I'd tune out of if it were on the radio (by that I mean I'd swap channel).
Roll on other mixes says me.

As was stated above, this song is really NOT Bondish. I did not care for it at all. I never really liked the last two either, but they grew on me, after having a "It's not THAT bad" reaction to them. I know different people have different opinions, and that's cool - but I fail to understand how the people in this thread who have said they truly liked it can think that.
This one. Blech. Sounds like it was done during Madonna's Erotica period, which wasn't that good, either. I suspect this will grow to tolerable for me, but that's about it. I'm sure I'll force myself to listen to it several times between now and the movie coming out, but I except I will never like this one, it will go down as one of the bad ones. This is horrible compared to Madonna's other material. I consider myself a somewhat Madonna fan - I adore her Ray of Light album, some stuff from Music is good, but her early stuff (Borderline comes to mind) is stuff I consider bubble gum **** is better than this.
For me, it's been awhile since there's been a total DUD of a theme song. The last one I totally disliked was License To Kill. I wasn't a fan of the Cheryl Crow song (to this day I still think that K.D. Lang's Surrender would have been a far superior theme song), but it grew on me. It's not the greatest, but it's definitely listenable. Garbage's song same thing. I initially didn't like it, but it grew on me - I actually rather like that now. Granted, I've only listened to it two times, but in my 30+ years on the planet, I've generally come to know how I will react long term to something given my first few listens, and I would be totally shocked at myself if I ended up liking this.
id burn myself a new bond cd right now to include DAD if it werent for that idiot on it.
It's not that difficult. Use MP3 editing software, and edit the radio dude out of there. Meaning, crop the portions off with him in it. It's not that difficult.

Yea it isn't difficult but you'd cut off the (IMO) pretty good string bits from the song...
Too bad he decided to talk during those bits..
I suggest waiting for a clean copy first before burning a CD...

i like the "die another day" song. It s clear that the song is different but hey the bond movie need to evoluate a little bit. Maybe some people remenber what David Arnold said in 1997: One foot in the 60', one foot in the future (or something like that). And what Madonna did is this.
Also for those who don't like it very much, don't forget that this is the radio edit, and the movie edit will be a lot more with the violins and madonna's voice like they did for TWINE.
Anyway this is great publicity for the movie

The DAD title sequence will be very fast and Daniel Kleinman can put a lot of stuff into it. I also believe that David Arnold is going to include some of the theme's tunes into the original score.
I only hope the mp3-quality would be better.

I couldn't love this more. Been listening to it all day and its so good. Think of the amount of publicity its already bringing the film, its nothing compared to when this song hits. As well as the trailer and poster all in the one week. Next : a djless version.

Question - Are those two songs not different? I mean, NDIB is a slow kind of love song, TLD is more of an upbeat song. No similarities there, apart from that they are both songs used for Bond films. Madonna's is a song used for the Bond film, so thereofer I consider it a Bond song. What's the difference. Change is good.
Question - Why can't you see it as appearing in the title sequence? I can. I can imagine Bond being caught then that song appearing. Personally I think it would make the audience feel aggressive, like they are wanting some kind of retribution (?), that Bond comes back and kicks ***! No doubt he will, but I think this is the only song that could pull off this pre-title sequence followed by the title sequence. Imagine NDIB for DAD's title sequence song - it just wont seem right, nor would a-ha's TLD.

from 8.3 to 9!!!
i'm 37 and have been watching james bond on the big screen since 1971 and all during that time, bond and the villians have been using the most cutting edge and futuristic technology on the planet
its been BOND and BEYOND
this techno oriendted song IS BOND and BEYOND
i never want to be bogged down in the past and i never want bond/bond art/bond music/bond literature to bogged down in the past and hats off to EON and to Madonna for being gutsy enough to stray away from the ballad approach that weve had lately.
to TIM and BLUE EYES, u guys are in the minority. ive been a bond fan and a bond music fan for longer than you guys and i love it.
its fresh, futuristic and it has a great beat...as for tradition, the lyrics and the strings pay homage to the tradition.
THUNDERBALL is my number 1 bond movie, but i rate this song better than thunderball....lest i say it, only a handfull of the songs i'd rate better than this.
....namely AVTAK, YOLT, DAF, NDIB, GE and LALD
cant wait for the video and the soundtrack....
and look at the publicity for heavens sake....isnt this what we wanted?

and isn't it great that whenever a radio station plays it most of the time they'll mention that it's from the upcoming Bond flick? great way to reach the non-hardcore fans that aren't already obsessed with DAD like us.

Well guess what. Not everyone thinks the way you do. That may be a shocker to you, but its true. You dont see me saying "I fail to understand why you dont like it" do you? No you do not, you know why? Cause I respect everyones opinions, why dont you try doing that.

Jimmy, i was referring to the dj on the clip. Being australian it sounds even more jarring than it might for you US guys...
Apoligies are in order than. Simple misunderstanding really. I also agree that the DJ is jarring, wish he wasnt on the track. Yes, I am in the US, but this guy is worse than any DJ I've ever heard.

Now I'll admit we needed a change following TWINE, but doesn't this seem like a case of throwing out the baby with the bathwater? Let's not scrap everything just to get away from the parts that didn't work.
I liked the original instrumental audio clip, actually; it didn't have all the weird electronic sounds, only the electronic music. I can only hope that this is a radio-only mix and the titles music won't be quite so techno.
What does everyone think about the chances that what we'll hear over the opening credits will be a different version than this?

As for the song itself, I love the strings and the underlying melody and think Arnold could do quite well with the orchestration and arrangement of it and incorporating the theme into parts of the score.
I could do without the distortion of her voice with the vocoder, I don't much care for the little girl voice, and much prefer Madonan's current voice to the one she used in the 80's in songs like Borderline, and that's what the vocoder makes her voice sound like again.
It's a great dance song, very catchy but I'm wondering how it's going to be successfully incorporated over what we know to be darker than usual credits. And while the lyrics are apporpriately dark, I don't think dancing around is the mood one's looking for
Oh well, we'll see in about 2 months.
